My personal favorite redesing is Chixia, she went from the most forgettable design in existence to one of my favorites in the entire game. She looks so bright and energetic now!

that's because they serious incapable of making any decision on their own and have to get ideas from everyone else. Everything they got in their game is either from other games like Genshin Impact, or from fans.
it's called beta for a reason. also I hope they don't listen to each and every complain cause they know what's best for their game in some aspects rather than the players. they announced they're reconsidering character personalities just because some beta testers didn't like how they weren't amicable with the rover immediately. it's dumb. as a company, there are things you should listen to but it shouldn't always be everything - it's a recipe for more unreasonable complaints and entitlement lol. just look at epic seven now, they have to bow down to players every time cause that's what they and the playerbase are used to already - them listening to everything the players complain about.

This vid made me really appreciate the time Kuro took to listen to feedback. While it was pretty obvious the older designs were based on a mold (I also noticed Male Rover had Wanshi's face) I'm a big fan of how hard they went on making the characters look distinct
to note, they also streamlined yangyang's design by making her long overskirt more swallow tail shaped, rather than the clunky square panels of the initial design. It is also blue on the inside now, which allows for her legs to be distinguished so that her lower body isn't perceived as a giant dark blob from the front. EDIT: there's always been blue on the inside I've just noticed, so disregard that comment
*1)* Sanhua deserved a praise for her re-designed in the CBT, because it more subtle yet fitting for her style. The golden jewelry fits well with her character design, but sad they took away the crimson glint in her eyes. *2)* Mortefi used to have a dragon tail in the Technical Test. However, I love that his new design in the CBT, shows more proper hairstyle, a more scientific look but still retains his dragon's scales.
Such an excellent video. My impressions of Wuthering Waves before was that every single character had weird looking hair. Bulky, messy, disproportional. But they’ve really improved every single design. So excited about this

Fully agree on this one. The amount of obnoxiously designed stuff they had taken from that game literally hinders the big potential of this gem of a gacha. We do not want 50/50, running around for mobs to get the mats, very grindy experience of leveling up our characters!
It's funny because I was looking through the newest showcases and was really loving these designs without knowing their old designs and I said "yep, these are great!" so props to Kuro. Excited to play this game :>
Um, Yangyang's redesign not looking great, like, at all... And neither does Jueyuan's. She just screams 'basic' and 'cliche'. That being said, judging by Bailian, Mihoyo have a lot of things to learn from Kuro.
Im very excited but also very worried for WW considering PGR revenue. #2 and #1 redesigns are great! But the rest are very lukewarm. If there isnt enough pop to the characters rivaling the #2 & #1 shown in this vid if still using anime cel-shaded style, it wont really catch anyone. This also wont be a very casual-facing kind of game which means it wont net high population nor revenue as with all games. If they want to go more realism, then they may need to switch over to a more realistic shading and texture style too in order to stand out from the rest of the anime crowd. This is a new product and they may benefit from experimenting a bit away from their old philosophies for better revenue breathing room. Many live services have been shutting down as of late even those originating in the West.
if this game continues to listen to what its player base wants, it might become more popular than we could predict, since some games are really satisfied at beeing almost the same since release...
I completely do NOT agree about Jueyuan. They just should have closed her stomach, and it would be excellent. Her current outfit is genshin-like, it doesn't fit the environment at all. WW is not a tale like GI.
I think I'm more drawn to the female rover design. While male rover looks in my opinion the average generic protagonist I feel like the style and look the female one looks more confident and eager.
i remember when someone recommended the technical test to me last year and i was NOT impressed at all LMFAO i found all the characters unlikeable, generic, and frankly...ugly xD then lots of months later the new wuwa vids popped out and I couldnt even recognize the game lmao i was like "is this even the same game?" but yeah really glad their art direction massively improved
The shoulder width makes such a difference in the atmosphere the game projects. Instead of "ha-ha, I'm in danger" anime characters stuck in a hostile world, they now look like protagonists who get shit done
Honestly a lot of the designs in PGR aren’t all that appealing. X) Especially for early characters like Nanami B or Sophia. They got better with time, admittedly. These are definitely huge improvements though. Especially Chixia, holy crap. Kuro Games still like black, white and gray a bit too much for my taste, though.
First I think, also are you guys going to be covering both WW and PGR going forward? And if so, will you make a new channel for WW or just cover both in here?
tbh most of the female character designs still dont impress me (except rover, chixia, shenhua and the girl with lightning rope). the two lolis in particular feel too vibrant for this bleak world. all of the dudes so far have been impressive though, i think they need to add some shota characters for wider appeal.

Really? To me it was the opposite. Yuanwu looked like the stereotypical dilf character and Mortefi was the same Kabuto like character that I've seen many times. Jiyan and Aalto were good tho. Male Rover is fine but as always with gacha way to safe. Awu is the most interesting design out of all the characters for now. Among the females only Bailian and Jueyuan made me think of stereotype, the cold beauty and the fairy. Chixia has the messy energetic outfit but that has many layers and still ends up looking nice. Although I would like a bit more details to distinguish her better. Without even trying to make a comparison I could tell Kuro used Yoimiya as a template for her.
Great video! This video and the PGR costume tier lists show me how much detail Kuro put details in their design (even if sometimes those decisions are.... interesting). It's really fun to listen to and see some new detail you never know before. So far, Chixia and Jiyan are the most memorable characters for me in terms design. But knowing Kuro, i know they'll have even more memorable characters. I'm excited to hear more news about the game!
New rover all look good but i kinda like the old hairstyle for female rover, her ancient asian Hairclipper thing look unique and make her stand out most MC char design in a good way not weird at all , new female rover face look better but too generic bland looking overall
I appreciate you doing this in depth comparison. With everyone moving around, I had no way of seeing the details of the alterations, since most of the outfits were unchanged, Chixia aside.
Idk, out of all of them, I really didn't mind the original of the top 1, it was pretty unique and quirky. The new one doesn't really fit in the setting, IMO But Chixia... She might be the reason I will start playing WW :D
Chixia is one hell of a redesign. I don't mind the IDEA of Verina's early blingless stylized Elvis-impressionist suit but the design is all over the place.
i actually like both of rover's hairstyle, while the old one was cluttered, it was also very pretty. in my opinion, they should have kept the old hairstyle with her new outfit.

dude what are you talking about? kuro has always had a simple design just one here and another there that stands out, it's being the same here with ww And this simple character design is maybe one of the ways they made the world more harmonious with the characters and their contexts. character designs can be extravagant, but you have to be careful with this because many times this exaggeration can end up making 2 characters that are supposed to be from the same region look totally different to the point that you think they are from separate franchises. kuro is trying to make a more recognizable character design for the game, not only that but within the game itself. You can tell that yangyang, taoqi, bailian and danji are from the same region just by their clothing, because despite dressing differently the patterns in their design subtly indicate that they are from the same region. unlike chixia who dresses totally different from those in her group, her clothes carry much more of her own personality and not the region... because she is not from the same region as the other girls. Thats what i mean when say that "design is not about being extravagant"... but yeah is an interesting decision since is a gacha game
you compare them like it was the final version but idk it feels like they just did placeholders just for testing mechanics and would change the "designs" anyway even without feedback 🤔
Ehhhh can't say I agree with a lot of these observations. Honestly, the main issue with the characters was just that they all looked the same, not that there was a problem with things like the star on Yangyang's head and chest (which I and a lot of people actually liked)

Chixia's redesign is post-apocalyptic Wild West cowgirl without having any cowgirl elements and it just works so well. She's got a bow instead of the wide hat, the vibrant colors and accessories (plus the half-jacket) make her feel like a friendly neighborhood sheriff. I'll be honest, I thought her new design was the OG because of how hard it slaps.
Jueyuan existed b4 Nahida's beta test reveal. Jueyuan was shown during tech test last year b4 genshin sumeru reveal this year. Please fact check urself.

At first I wasn't that impressed with Juyean's redesign, but after paying more attention to it I finally noticed how hard it kicks the old one out of orbit! In particular, I actually like everysingle design they've introduced so far in the CBT. What truly excites me is the new characters we'll be getting in the future, such as Chun. Another thing I love about WW's design is how the characters of the same element actually stand out from each other basing solely on the form and usage of their elemental powers. Daijin has a bright yet corrupting form of her element, making it look like lava in a way, while Taoqui has a dull pink/lilac that also gives me the texture of ink.
All of the past designs looks like it was trying too hard to imitate Genshin Impact cute style, and it felt more like a placeholder with that same face syndrome.
I feel like they are trying to take too much from genshin (gacha system, farming methods, UI,...), sure it's the most popular gacha game right now but it's far from perfect, the player of Genshin are mostly casual and I think kuro should aim then with the dissatisfied part. Still we are in the second (?) CBT so we can except many difference from the official launches

They went from basic in the technical test to absolute DRIP in CBT. Hands down my favourite ones are Yangyang, Female Rover anf Chixia.

@@ivyprofens just tired of seeing everything from wuthering waves gets compared to genshin u know? Even the grappling hook thing was a concept earlier in tech test compared to genshin sumeru reveal of the hook. And yet this game gets called a clone.

At first I wasn't that impressed with Juyean's redesign, but after paying more attention to it I finally noticed how hard it kicks the old one out of orbit!
In particular, I actually like everysingle design they've introduced so far in the CBT. What truly excites me is the new characters we'll be getting in the future, such as Chun.
Another thing I love about WW's design is how the characters of the same element actually stand out from each other basing solely on the form and usage of their elemental powers. Daijin has a bright yet corrupting form of her element, making it look like lava in a way, while Taoqui has a dull pink/lilac that also gives me the texture of ink.

All of the past designs looks like it was trying too hard to imitate Genshin Impact cute style, and it felt more like a placeholder with that same face syndrome.
I feel like they are trying to take too much from genshin (gacha system, farming methods, UI,...), sure it's the most popular gacha game right now but it's far from perfect, the player of Genshin are mostly casual and I think kuro should aim then with the dissatisfied part. Still we are in the second (?) CBT so we can except many difference from the official launches
