I agree with you heavily on the spear especially in terms of the bosses. Like they nerfed the melee tools against bosses to encourage the use of melee weapon attachements on guns, and weapon slot dedicated melee options, and the proceeded to throw that into the garbage with the addition of the spear.
it needs limb damage modification with some sort of damage drop-off so that at a specific range say 10-15 meters its a 1 hit kill with limbs, but beyond that you need a full body hit and with a max range of say 35'ish meters... it needs somewhere to about half to 70% of the speed, and double its drop (add or give one of the already existing traits a bonus for damage/+10% speed/less drop or something). if anything they need to nerf the drop hard, and increase the speed/lessen the drop of the throwing axes/knifes. in terms of speed/drop, the knifes should be the fastest with the least drop, then the axes, then the spear. damage should follow that same trend. its less of a spear and more of a javelin at this point...
I absolutely agree that the Katana should be two slot again. Every single time so far without fail if I see someone I killed and there loudout consisted of a 3 slot gun and a melee weapon, it is ALWAYS the katana. There is just no reason not to take it, even without martialist it is just better to take over other options.
Melee is a joke, the only one that needs nerfing is the spear because it's a tool that does everything better, including katana, bomblance, crossbow and so much more. Anything else is splitting hairs because melee is a meme in competent lobbies.
Something I'd like to see is perks that enable unique interactions for all the melee weapons; for the saber, perhaps a clash/parry mechanic. For the axe, maybe vaulting mechanic for higher ledges by hooking the axe head and having the character pull themselves up. For the hammer, higher damage and the ability to smash supply points/ammo boxes.(toxic) For machete, higher bleed, lower stamina, and quicker ready speed. Maybe even the option to have your pistol melee be changed to a mechete attack. If katana gets a unique perk that just makes it the best option, perhaps the solution is providing a versitility buff to the other options.
I'm liking this idea, but keep it to only one perk Martialist. The only idea I don't vibe with is for saber - the other comment made a better suggestion, make it dual wieldable with any pistol
Imo, Spear is on Par with Katana. It's a tool, which lets you bring another firearm. It's heavy is and instakill to most AI, and Hunters when in the torso. AND, it has a ranged option. And while Katana needs Martialist and Quartermaster for its full potential, the Spear only really "needs," Frontiersman, which boosts ALL of your tools! I can't really say one is better, but they're both very much S-Tier in the right hands. Which, tbf, probably aren't mine...
The combat axe and railroad hammer should be throwable just like world weapons with tomahawk. As for the cavalry saber and machete I really think we should get melee pistol combinations as medium slots.

The Katana needs to be strong in order to be viable because, in reality, it is actually fighting for its spot versus shotguns, fanning, levering, spear, semi-auto guns, hunting bow, and crossbow. Crytek should find new applications for these neglected melee weapons rather than hurting the melee weapon that is actually holding up to the competition. Maybe give Martialist moves to more weapons or the ability to throw certain melee weapons.
I really couldn't disagree more. Non-throwable melee weapons are ALL underpowered in PVP. It being a small slot just opens up more build opportunities. It is only strong when you happen to be very close to your enemy and it runs a high risk of trading. This video should've been about the spear.
yes katana is overshadowing other melees, but melees have already been overshadowed (on pc). even the katana, which is the best pure melee, is trait dependant on martialist, and instead of spending a trait for a melee, i can bring, a lemat for example, the shotgun will do WAY better then the melee, or an officer, a conversion with fanning (which is also a trait dependancy) we will ignore the dolch because its an outliar but all these other options my point stands. the katana just makes it so melee is slightly more viable, even if it was completely removed (which wouldnt help anything) people would just move to the sabre, bat, or axe. The machette will just forever suck unless they give it a unique feature. tldr: katana isnt even close to the best one slot, and no matter what you do to it, itll never compete with them, nevermind 2 slots.
Katana is okay how it is. It's the same as using the bomb lance. There's no need to nerf a melee weapon that we know it's gonna be lethal if we get close to an opponent that uses it. All you have to do is know to keep your distance cause you don't know what the enemy is using. Katanas for they're mechanic nature are very lethal and if you imagine swinging that thing to a person, I'm sure you might kill that person in real life with just one swing of it which is really dangerous literally speaking. So don't blame Crytek because of that weapon. It's part of the old times and it's damage is normal as it should be.

I do! Part of my enjoyment in hunt is putting together a solid loadout and making it work, and I feel like I betray it a little when I pick up a new weapon lol
I'm usually a melee main but i like to run that kind of build into a PvE mindset. Granted i have just ran in and solo'd a trio a couple times during my playtime on the game but if i was solely going into a PvP mindset i would have melee as a backup weapon and not a primary. I juggle between bomb lance and katana but i perfer bomb lance when I'm boss hunting personally.

Give the cavalry saber a 2 hit swing pattern that lets you get off two attacks in rapid succession. You don't need to nerf the katana if you are willing to be creative with the rest of the weapons. Oh, and I feel like I should add. Melee ABSOLUTELY should not be nerfed in the current state of things, because shotguns are currently so oppressively strong. As a frequent melee player, I am bringing it less and less, because shotguns are so common, and so incredibly dominant. If you make the katana a 2 slot weapon, most people are going to (correctly) bring a small shotgun instead. Melee's strength before this patch were the ability to use it as a panic option, and its reliability. Well, shotguns are so good right now, that they fulfill both of those requirements. And if you really want a melee back up, the spear is almost as good. Not to mention melee builds are inherently very high risk high reward playstyles, and with how degenerate burning is in the current meta, its even more punishing when you go for risky plays.
All excellent points. I was regularly running katana or bat before the update. Since the update, I have been running shotguns every single round. They are just too strong to not take. I very rarely get downed by melee attacks because I am pretty quick on the draw with my shotgun.
It depends on range and where you hit someone, but a full damage shot at close range leaves them with around 8-9 seconds before they bleed out (not an exact measurement, I’m just eyeballing it)
I think katana is fine. It needs a trait and some source of stamina to shine. Without them I would rather take a bat. The bat is great, very stamina sfficient and fast. Saber is also better than katana without the Martialist. Yeah, it is stong but why not? I never played melee before, katana opened this type of loadouts to me.

Its the fact that with a perk it acts like a heavy swing with a 145 degree arc of 1 tap with range of bomblance. Yes the spear is busted as a tool, bot even the bolblance has less radial and requires a full charge to kill a hunter instantly. This is also completely making combat axe and railroad hammer pointless and machetee doesnt have the reach to make it worth bringing. Basically the gunplay is all you have to work with as a simple lmb is an auto kill. Thats the issue hes adressing. Spear is a different level as it is the best tool slot for the options. Both are equally bad for balance. The problem is nobody brings swords without the perks. This new map is rpugh on melee as its a lot of elivation and janky spacing. So swords arnt as spammed as other maps. Name the last time you saw a railroad hammer or combat axe in loadout since katana followed by spear makes loadouts easy to detect. Most of the time its mosin with katana with spear if they want to run the perk for a double spear throw combo. Personally they need a perk to make melee as a whole better. At current spear and sword are busted purely because with 3 perks you can make them extra stealth cancer. Silent killer, whispersmith, and then martialist makes switching, arming, and preping these weapons silent. So you can ambush 1 shot without any prep other then swaping weapons which is near silent with the perk. Its not fun to just walk and get insta fucked by silent spears or swords in corner checks.

The complaint is that k ives and axes got sidelined in tool catagory and all melee got turned off because katana spam is king so its better to bring a gun. I want to see the problems adressed as i like to use the combat ace or railhammer, instead i just run bayonet to keep the same range and ability of the katana. Personally i just run the hatchet or bayonet varraints now cause tgere isnt a high cost downside. This also has been done to allow spear to fill in as a spair melee or a throw in a pinch. I personally hate the spear. I use throwing axes or fuses as mostly i use them for ai clear. Spears are net better at it though killing all ai with low stam cost, almost the same cost as a duster swing

Do a video about the katana being broken, meanwhile the fucking spear exist.... is the katana broken ? sure. Is it the most broken of all the melee weapon ? not even close
Its the fact that with a perk it acts like a heavy swing with a 145 degree arc of 1 tap with range of bomblance. Yes the spear is busted as a tool, bot even the bolblance has less radial and requires a full charge to kill a hunter instantly. This is also completely making combat axe and railroad hammer pointless and machetee doesnt have the reach to make it worth bringing. Basically the gunplay is all you have to work with as a simple lmb is an auto kill. Thats the issue hes adressing. Spear is a different level as it is the best tool slot for the options. Both are equally bad for balance. The problem is nobody brings swords without the perks. This new map is rpugh on melee as its a lot of elivation and janky spacing. So swords arnt as spammed as other maps. Name the last time you saw a railroad hammer or combat axe in loadout since katana followed by spear makes loadouts easy to detect. Most of the time its mosin with katana with spear if they want to run the perk for a double spear throw combo. Personally they need a perk to make melee as a whole better. At current spear and sword are busted purely because with 3 perks you can make them extra stealth cancer. Silent killer, whispersmith, and then martialist makes switching, arming, and preping these weapons silent. So you can ambush 1 shot without any prep other then swaping weapons which is near silent with the perk. Its not fun to just walk and get insta fucked by silent spears or swords in corner checks.
@@joshuaturcotte6724 I don't say the katana does not outperform other melee weapon, I'm saying the katana is outperformed by a tool that does not require a perk and that don't use a weapon slot. The spear is better in everyway (except the area of attack true) I don't even see melee weapon at all (or so rarely that I don't even remember) since the spear release. The katana is a broken finger, while the spear is an open stab wound, sure, I would like the broken finger be adressed but the fucking stab wound take priority.
@@Killer2Croc i am sudgestomg to fox both, thats tge explanation point of the video. The problem is tgere are a lot of people defending the sword and its current state, even if tgey removed the spear the sword would still make all other melee options pointless anyways. It can 6 shot scrap beak, decimate butcher or spider, and works good on anything else. The spear can do similar as well. The complaint is that k ives and axes got sidelined in tool catagory and all melee got turned off because katana spam is king so its better to bring a gun. I want to see the problems adressed as i like to use the combat ace or railhammer, instead i just run bayonet to keep the same range and ability of the katana. Personally i just run the hatchet or bayonet varraints now cause tgere isnt a high cost downside. This also has been done to allow spear to fill in as a spair melee or a throw in a pinch. I personally hate the spear. I use throwing axes or fuses as mostly i use them for ai clear. Spears are net better at it though killing all ai with low stam cost, almost the same cost as a duster swing

9:32 I'm not a Machete lover (it's trash), but i heard you say that the Machete is the worst weapon in the game. Yet, clearly, that title goes to the Railroad Hammer. Unless you're a fan of Loony Tunes and you're an expert at whacking hunters on the noggin with a shovel, you should never wander on out of the lobby with a Railroad Hammer.
