They'll just drop the bitrate to save on bandwidth like everyone does. Despite using AV1, Netflix's quality at anything but 4K HDR is pretty bad because they just reduced the bitrate to keep the quality as low as people will accept and I'm sure UA-cam does the same
I'm happy that the engine is being further developed and you're always bringing new things. But it's also very important that you work on this netcode and the servers. Rubber banding is a big problem, as are these trades. I don't understand why this isn't being worked on, especially since this is extremely important for a shooter.
Man, I always loved the lightning and the shading in CryEngine, too bad not enough games use that engine. Nowadays most of games just have that UE look :/

Love the game but devs PLEASE add an render scale option that allows setting the render resolution higher than 100%. A lot of modern monitors do not allow technologies like Nvidia DSR. Resolution is super important in hunt because of the shimmering of foliage and ability to spot players. DLSS if fine but even quality at native is not nearly sharp enough.
I like the HDR, but you still need to do some colour correction, Alex looking overly bright, and blacks are lifted too much. you can't just record in HDR and expect it to look good. Just my constructive criticism, I mean use something like DaVinci resolve, they have a good Auto Colour correction for HDR.
I expected to see criticism and praise, but this is just an interview... Flickering textures? Horrible FPS drops? DLSS 2.1 without the ability to replace DLL file?! Online Hunt is now at the level or lower than it was before due to greatly increased requirements, worse sound positioning and terrible UI.
I'd absolutely love an "optimized settings" video, Alex. I've been playing Hunt pretty consistently since late 2018; The game's fidelity on PC definitely took a hit when they released it on the now-previous-gen consoles. And this latest update has felt like a return to form for Crytek. I'd also love a single player (or co-op? eh?!) campaign in the world of Hunt. It'd be a sort of "yup, we're still here" move from Crytek. Though I guess that's what Crysis 4 is shaping up to be.
Yeah, this game annihilates 8 gigabyte GPUs. If you lower the vram usage target and use medium textures with balanced image reconstruction it blows past the 8 gigs fast. I get nasty nasty stuttering now on my 3070 unless I majorly then down the texture quality / quality presets - but then the game winds up looking a lot worse of course than it does here in these DF videos.

I’ve noticed when the game bogs down sometimes on PS5 in certain POIs or when things get really hairy the screen starts tearing. Wonder if they are using VSYNC at all.
No updated version of DLSS or frame gen? To most, gameplay is king, then performance, then graphics. Graphics are nice to get you in the door but gameplay and performance keep you around. Crytek never took performance seriously and I think its always hurt them in sales and reputation.
@@MelvinGundlach No they didn't it was just optimized for console, they were FORCED to make it run well for that reason alone, as we saw with the more linear levels and closed off map design. When they added tessellation and other PC only features they bungled that too. Users found out that everything (including the ocean below the map) was rendering at FULL tessellation despite being out of view.
If they fix the awful fps drops, stutters in all kinds of situations, hundreds of old, new and returning bugs, tradekilling, move to servers that don't run at 30hz tickrate on a good day, rework their hit registration and fulfill at least 5% of the promises made leading up to the update then this would be a great game.

Sadly since they apparently got rid of DX11 completely in favor of DX12 only, the VRAM usage even at all Low settings is off the charts. For example: 4K Res before the update: 5gb VRAM After: 8gb VRAM This causes huge playability issues for people with 8GB VRAM or less, which you can see several threads of people complaining about huge FPS drops, not realizing the game is now hitting this VRAM limit. Performance: I personally havent had a single crash with my rig yet. Im getting rock solid 150-200fps on 1440p, with a Very High preset and DLSS on quality (7800x3d/4080). Sure i was getting more fps before, but the game looks so much better, there was 0 chance the performance would stay the same. I could run on Ultra if i wanted to, but i prefer to sacrifice a bit of visual fidelity to gain competitive advantage (on ultra i get around 90-140 fps). UI: once i learned the shortcuts, navigating the menus became easier. It's definitely not a great UI, and they need to tweak some stuff to speed up gearing up for a game, but i really don't think it's so bad that it deserves the shitstorm of negative reviews it's been getting. People need to chill. (I know they won't though). The devs know we didnt like the UI, however shitting on it non stop on steam just pushes new potential players away from the game. We all want more players in the game, it makes matchmaking better for everyone, as well as providing funds for the devs to continue developing the game. The game is not a smash hit by any metric, shich it definitely deserves. Ive played many fps games in the past, Hunt is definitely one of the bestter ones out there, yet its not very popular. This is their chance to bring more people in. It must be so deflating for the devs fo see this one chance they have slip away. Sure they messed up with some stuff, but honenstly this reaction is so overblown it makes me want to stop associating myself with the gaming community. The older i get the more toxic it becomes.

If you have a RTX card, you could use RTX HDR I tried it on crysis 3 and to me it looked really good on my oled but I also agree it kinda sucks that there’s no native HDR support on these games.
hdr is overall a letdown....
Finally I’ve been waiting for this
Always love this developer interviews, they are great.
Dear god, PBR techniques are pretty crazy. Specifying the melanin content of the hair, to determine ultimate color is at both incredible, and terrifying.
It definitely increases the realism of the imagine, but I wonder how it effects the design process of the artists.
Great interview, beautiful game,, awesome tech.
Dear developers, why are you using the outdated version of DLSS in your updated engine? Do you think that players are satisfied with the blurry mess instead of the steady image that the current DLSS 3.7+ can provide?
Does injecting an updated DLSS .dll trigger the anti cheat or something?
@@someusername1872 According to comments on reddit, after replacing nvngx_dlss.dll, DLSS option in the game becomes unavailable. EAC probably considers the file replacement as a violation of the integrity of the game files and simply blocks it. But the game looks just awful with DLSS 2.3.1

I'm not sure but if the player could do it the devs could do it so there's no excuse. I think this is more what he's getting at?
I am able to play this game still with a gtx 1080. That's a nine year old card. 1440p low settings 55-80 frames and still quite pretty.
I think the new map need some optimization..there are some area that drop my fps from 100 to almost 60 fps..

Because its super repetitive, this is ocming from someone with 300 hours in it too
@rundown132 Most games are repetitive.
@@rundown132Not that repetitive, I have almost 500 lol
The game literally can't get bigger, if player numbers approach what they did when they launched the new update the servers simply explode.
it's always nice to see the higher bitrate youtube allows for HDR videos... I wonder when youtube's gonna make the move to more av1 encodes
It often depends on how popular the video is.
They'll just drop the bitrate to save on bandwidth like everyone does. Despite using AV1, Netflix's quality at anything but 4K HDR is pretty bad because they just reduced the bitrate to keep the quality as low as people will accept and I'm sure UA-cam does the same
Yes, more HDR videos please!
I'm happy that the engine is being further developed and you're always bringing new things. But it's also very important that you work on this netcode and the servers. Rubber banding is a big problem, as are these trades. I don't understand why this isn't being worked on, especially since this is extremely important for a shooter.
How do you know they aren't?

Man, I always loved the lightning and the shading in CryEngine, too bad not enough games use that engine.

Yea I’m starting to hate the UE look
There might be issue with some aspect of cryengine that makes it not appealing to developers.

I assume there was no mention/question of how Crytek assisted in engine work for Kingdom Come Deliverance 2? I would like to hear about that.

Just my constructive criticism, I mean use something like DaVinci resolve, they have a good Auto Colour correction for HDR.
the HDR is for the gameplay parts which look great, you are not here to watch Alex in HDR. it takes a lot of time to do such pointless thing.
@@nicknickname353 true. True.

So Clive Gratton went in Crytek... (he was in Creative Assembly "Console" team and was lead programmer on Alien Isolation)
Oh I'm ready for this, hoping there is some talk about the wacky VRAM usage under certain conditions at Grizzly Lodge and Graystone Pit.
Best pvp game on the planet, no other game gives you this much adrenaline rush. Also, it has the best sound effects I've ever heard in a game, pure masterclass of a game. Play it, dont just take my word.
Nicely done video
I think the only new game using CryEngine is the new Kingdom Come Deliverance 2. Sad that no one wants to use the cryengine
i dont know what happened to the render distance in the new update, but even on very high/ultra settings you can clearly see the radius from your character where shadows render in as you move
I love hearing professionals talking to professionals.
good call on HDR Alyx, this game looks nuts in HDR. I opened this on my Iphone 15 and the minute it said HDR, i said i need to watch this on bigger HDR screen.
Amazing game and this new update blew my mind
Am I more impressed with hunts update or the decision and recognition that this video should be in HDR!
thanks, Alex for bringing us the goods!
everything is great except the UI. its the most unintuitive, designed by a madman, netflix/hulu call of doody garbage ive ever seen. redesign the UI crytek. PLEASE. redditors made better menu UI design.

Is it me or when you turn on dlss it’s blurry? Ive tried all the quality presets and it remains blurry? If there is a remedy for this please let me know.
I had the capacity to run a dsr factor of 1.75 and this makes the game very clean. But yeah, it very blurred on just dlss.
Listened this without the video and legit forgot the second dev until he wake up at the end
I agree
They took performance seriously with Crisis 2 and were shunned for it because it didn’t overstress the latest graphics cards for a change.
Game runs great for me, even better than before, they just delivered an engine upgrade for free and yet you cry about unfulfilled promises 😂😂😂
@@sergiopery Yes? WTF is your point "they lied about their release and gave you a broken product why do you complain" ???? There is a reason it sits at mostly negative and has lower player numbers than before the "upgrade". Also "runs better for me" because you use upscalers. There is no way it runs better than before without them unless you were mega CPU limited.
@@KungThulhu no upscaler, native res, I can now crank up the settings to very high and it runs at the same 100fps as before, what promise did Crytek break that it also broke your heart? Have you mentioned it to your therapist? Game looks INSANELY good now, sucks to be you.
Sadly since they apparently got rid of DX11 completely in favor of DX12 only, the VRAM usage even at all Low settings is off the charts.
For example: 4K Res before the update: 5gb VRAM
After: 8gb VRAM
This causes huge playability issues for people with 8GB VRAM or less, which you can see several threads of people complaining about huge FPS drops, not realizing the game is now hitting this VRAM limit.
Basically you need at least a 10gb VRAM card, if not 12 or 16gb now(based on graphics settings).
To be fair playing at 4K with an 8 GB card in 2024 is a bit too optimistic.
@@mungojerrie86 my thoughts exactly, the fastest 8gb GPU is probably a 3070ti. which is more so for 1440p and high fps 1080p. Yes the VRAM increase sucks, but its the way it goes, 8gb in 2024 depending on what you're using it for really is at the limit.
4k? Duh. Turn down you textures and turn off DLSS and you'll be fine.

@@16valveBravoSpoonz 8 GB was available in mainstream (upper midrange to be specific) in 2015 from AMD and then in 2016 from Nvidia. It is unfathomable they some people still consider 8 GB of VRAM to be appropriate for anything but the low end.

VRAM change from 90 to 70 is making game so much smooth for 8Gb budget gpu... And allmost none stutters and weird 20% fps drops for half a minute.

Even if you tone the texture quality way down and move that down to 70 I still get lots of visible “jitter” / stuttering camera motion after the update.

What a beautiful game.
The engineer talked at 10000000mhz a second, very impressive frontal lobe performance.
I wish I had better internet at my current apartment. Hunt Showdown is brilliant. I played it for years before moving. It’s the only online competitive game I’ve really enjoyed in the last decade. I highly recommend it to anyone curious. Steep learning curve, a bit like Souls that way, but once it hooks you it really hooks you.
