I took a CCNA course in high school during the early 2000s and there was no UA-cam. We didn’t even have Packet Tracer. We had to draw the network on poster board lol
Wow! Those are the days where too many opportunities for network engineers. Companies were just starting to build their network infra.
I think CCNA is more of an intermediate cert than ppl acknowledge. The amount you need to know to pass that sucker vs Network+ is quite a bit more.
I haven’t taken either exams yet. Have you personally taken the exams? I’ve never heard this before that network+ is better?
@@mrs.review9948I did not say Network+ is better. Definitely not. My point was the CCNA is a more intermediate cert than Network+ and you need to know more for it. Think you misunderstood.
@@reiserkeiserfinally someone who actually gets it. 😊
Calling CCNA certification meant for helpdesking is crazy beyond absurd 😂
@@yurisebastiao1872 This, CCNA is NOT an entry level cert, its a intermediate cert, its not easy to get compared to the Network+.
It's all about experience. If your MSP is a Cisco partner, they'll push for you to get certifications for them to get more Cisco partnerhip perks like discounts and promote you with the silver, gold, platinum partner status (or whatever it is now). I worked at an MSP and they hired at least two CCIES that didn't know jack. It's all about what you have done and how long you have done it. There is no substitute for experience. Btw, when you say helpdesk, I'm assuming you mean NOC techs or engineers too. I think those guys knew more about troubleshooting than the two CCIEs I just mentioned.
The video is about early stage of a CCNA career.
IT Helpdesk. Explained here.
Getting away from helpdesk job aka hell desk
ua-cam.com/video/jif2NKq4Rtg/v-deo.html
I’m down for viewing IT as a trade but when you start in a trade you actually make enough to pay the bills. Help desk around here expects certs but pays the same as Walmart. I got my bachelors in IT and just got my ccna and am gonna keep improving my skills till I can get a job that improves my family’s quality of life.
Thats the spirit. Thanks for sharing!
I'm not getting a CCNA to do helldesk. Period.
Thanks for sharing. There is another video about helpdesk career. Check this out:
Helpdesk job is for Losers! Network and Cloud is better
ua-cam.com/video/0zBcPrywUbM/v-deo.html
Goodluck!!! 100
We're becoming a little delusional here. CCNA was never meant for helpdesk roles. Trust me. A+ is a helpdesk techician cert.
@@StyxShowYeah you’re delusional help desk jobs are for losers really? Let me change my UA-cam recommendations list
I've done helldesk & desktop support is a lot more fun. You get to at least walk & if it's at a hospital it's so big that you blend in with all the people walking around. lol
sir Neil Anderson's CCNA course was the best and it was the only video material I studied over and over again in 5 years along with the official cert guidebook of CCNA from cisco. I am proud to say that I dont have a line of 85 score for every topic in CCNA (IP connectivity, wireless, security, networking, and automation). All of them are line of 90 and yes that's the amount of time and preparation you need to have to almost ace the exam. That's how hard CCNA is as a gateway to become network engineer.
His CCNA is the highest rated and best selling online. Thanks
Never in my life would I think I would see Niel Anderson on a youtube interview, and, in a TIjuanas Xolos jersey. Hola Niel :)
Was also surprised he arrived the studio with a Xolos jersey!
Anyone who actually has the CCNA knows that it's beyond entry level. Yes, it's billed as such, but by comparison to anything else out there, CCNA is actually more intermediate than entry level. Infact, they used to have a lower cert before the CCNA.
There is an lower entry level cisco cert. watch it here:

This click bait is nasty work btw lol
I've been CCNA since 2020!! He is not lying!! All I was offered was help desk jobs!! I ended up taking one. Got my AWS SA cloud Architect in Feb and testing out for my CCNP next month in July!! I have to keep going to avoid these help desk offers!!!
Can you share if you are a new grad with no experience just the certs & degree? Or are you older like you know 40's with 15+ years experience & that's all you're being offered.
Thanks for acknowledging!
Best of luck on your journey, man. I hope this podcast brings value to your career.
That’s insane to me. CCNA is a difficult exam. I got a help desk and then network tech position with no certs.
I was also a CCNA around 2020 and my first job was L1 NOC. 😮 Thank God he give me this job. I learn a lot.
@@madayag408you are the best example of a CCNA who have skipped Helpdesk job. Well done!
I followed the same path as Neil. I studied Todd Lammle's books and took a CBT nugget course with Emilio as the instructor. This was around 2001-2003, so I didn't have broadband, but DSL was available. Back then, Cisco courses were really expensive, costing thousands of dollars, which wasn't an option for me.
That time Computer based training and simulation wasn’t popular. But to those people who knew it already exist and used them of cert preparations.
They were able to grab opportunities and high paying job thru cheap self paced prep course.
What a beauty!
I want to see more of this guy.... host him again!
This is 7 part video. Will publish every Friday. Thanks!
Ccna depends on the person who delivers the knowledge.. if the person shares he real life experience youll stand out and get the best offers out there. Generally speaking, the market is about whats make you different
Hindi ka natatakot magsabi ng totoo! Gusto ko yan.
Context is key here. I would assume most people who were becoming a Network Engineer or Admin with CCNA during the times you mentioned had other experience. Everyone now wants to skip help desk and level one work. Those people who became Engineers and Admins spent years whether formally or informally working with technology. That is so different to present day where you have completely non technical people who never did technical things growing up (setting up a lan party, fixing dial up internet etc). Saying CCNA is a help desk cert is misleading and will lead to people making mistakes early in their careers. To anyone reading this please know your time will come. I went from college (which everyone told me was stupid) to help desk for 1 year and now I am a cloud engineer.
Still love you both. Neil your CCNA course helped me learn networking while I was on the help desk only a couple of years ago. Dean love your certification videos. If you ever want to interview a person newer in their career but has made great progress in 3-4 years let me know 🫡
CCNA during the time you mentioned had other experiences - No! There was a time that there are too many Network admin/engineer positions and if you invested for a CCNA training. You can easily get a job.
Now, the situation is different. Too many CCNAs but not enough networking jobs. Thats why other CCNAs ending up as a helpdesk.
The discussion is for those zero to minimal experience.
should the kids do CCIE then cause you started networking in 1900s and it's just not the same anymore right.
When it comes to certs theres things you need to know and things you need to do a job certs help certify that your aware but what you have to do is likely minimal compared to the subject you cover as i see it
True in many cases but If you are customer facing and when you are talking about design. You have to know alot of stuff even beyond certifications.
and ur talking about helpdesk in GENERAL!! which you will never have access to the INFRASTRUCTURE!! like cisco unless againg ur company is looking for the next SNOWDON! There is a HUGE difference between regular helpdesk and cisco helpdesk so dude don't lop windows helpdesk with cisco helpdesk or vmware helpdesk!!!
his has really great teaching skill #Neil i have take your CCNA Couse on Udemy 😊
I have CCNA and I have been stuck on helpdesk for 3 years
Thanks for sharing. Stay tuned for more videos from this podcast session.
Thats What I don't want. To have all these Certs and get stuck on help desk.
I live in Phoenix. Just did a "indeed" search and found
"IT Systems Analyst (Network)" in Chandler (about 15-30min from PHX)
They ask if you have a valid driver license, experience in networks, a bachelor degree, and a Network+ cert. So with s little as a net+ your resume will already be in the "for further review" pile! lol
Another one for "Arizona Water Company" just mentons a highschool diploma or GED and windows experience for a Net Admin spot.
Now granted none of these are guaranteed and you could get to the interview and find out something a bit different, but I say all this to say location might play a bigger role than we know. I know a girl that has 7 years IT experience and her last position was on the business side of IT in Oregon. She lost that job and was doing Lyft for over a year. I recently sent her a link for a job with the state of AZ and initially got rejected BUT a month later they called her and asked if she still wanted the job, interviewed her and the following week she got it.
I do agree. It all depends on the location. But in Asia - India, Thailand, The Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia etc. The competition for newbies and fresh grads is quite tough. Most people are ending up in helpdesk
@@StyxShow I am almost positive that's because of the lack of available positions rather than the certification itself. Am I right?
Even in the UK the situation being reported isn't too dissimilar. The more experienced people are either stepping down or returning to the field taking up the lower level positions so sometimes the newbies and grads can't even get into helpdesk! lol
Certs can't really help if a gazillion people have one but the jobs simply aren't there. And it can only repeat when people start going for different certs.
Sorry but I don't share your sentiments. I'm a senior network engineer with only ccna and only working on my ccnp encore now
Have you watch the video?
Same
@@gussi123 Hmmm whats interesting is Dean’s previous videos are about “Avoid Helpdesk” (regardless of certs) and people disagreeing with him.
When he talks about helpdesk as their 1st IT role still many people disagrees.
With the change that is coming to CCNA, with the incluson of A.I. and the cloud, this should increase its value. If not, the CCNA certification will be in trouble.
Hmmm.. recruiters and HR (even hiring managers) who filters candidate resume have no idea of the coverage of CCNA. I dont think there will any difference..at least in the next 5 yrs.
It's only an introduction, just like automation, which is currently in the CCNA.
You don't go in depth into automation. It's only enough that if it gets brought up at work, you won't be out of the loop. The same will be for AI and cloud
@@everon727 I understand. But it is an addition to the CCNA exam.
Be a winner like Dean not loser like a Helpdesk Agent! ❤
Its the same thing that happened witht he rest of the world. People who had degrees had a leg up so everyon wanted to get a degree. Now a degree is necessary for a lot of fields. Replace degrees for certs and thats the it field now. A+ may as well be a highschool diploma.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! Wonder why many people not getting the point of the discussion. (See other people comments)
Xolos!!
I know you wanna get views which is good, there’s a lot of competition in the industry now but don’t downplay people’s skills and hardwork, CCNA is not a cold drink certification.
Have you watched the video and read the comments? Many people can relate. Its not for everyone though.
CCNA is not an easy cert, in our country alot of network engineers don't even have a CCNA. It all comes down to knowledge and skill. Same if you were on helpdesk, you get some guys that just go with the flow and others that actually demonstrate they are more capable of other stuff.
Hmmm thats interesting. Some countries have too many CCNA. And they demote CCNA and CCNP holders due to scarcity.
That's what happens when you have smoked an enormous amount of weed without even minding of the possible outcomes ahead of you.
I feel like all these dudes ever do is try to discourage you , I feel like the ccst is help desk not a ccna … ccna has so much for you to know and learn , And it’s being updated to add cloud and Ai and Network cloud management how in the Hell Is this a help desk Cert ???
I expect you haven’t watched the video? Please watch! And tell if the discussion is about discouraging people.
How the hell is CCNA a helpdesk cert? Read the comments! Many people share their frustration and experience.
@@StyxShow bruh don’t reply to me if your just gonna delete my comments when I speak
@willgreat8384 when did I delete your message?
I think if you end on help desk after CCNA then that may be the individual’s fault. I understand in desperation you take a position but you should be able to sell yourself to get a higher position than that 🤔
@@chadwicktyrone8894 that was the discussion about. We aren’t discouraging people. Its just reality for many.
i never see a help desk job doing cisco stuff
Please watch the video in full
Agreed, CCNA is easy to passed with dump questions&answer
Not related to the discussion man. Please watch the video in full.
Lammle books did NOT help me Pass The CCNA. But, I had obtained The CCNA, ANYWAY, I DIDNOT GET HIRED IN TEC☹️😡🤬🤬💩💩
What books did help you then?
This is false in the real working world. Ccna is higher than every other buzz word cert as far as chance to get an actual job. You start out junior or helpdesk regardless of degree or certification. Then you move up.. network admin and jr network admin is more than possible with ccna. Title doesnt mayter get your 6 months of experience and get promoted
@@JohnCutter317 Hmmm whats interesting is Dean’s previous videos are about “Avoid Helpdesk” (regardless of certs) and people disagreeing with him.
When he talks about helpdesk as their 1st IT role still many people disagrees.
CCNA is not help desk 😅 what are you talking about it's easily net admin and not good enough to be a engineer
The title is not a statement its a discussion. Watch the video in full man.
Just because you're a CCIE right ...
Regardless of my cert. There are many companies requiring Helpdesk position with CCNA cert.
Freshgrads and new to the industry would take the position as getting Netwrok Enginring/Admin position is quite difficult.
Many people agree with this. Check out the comments.
@@StyxShowThat's minority but based on research, majority of the companies see CCNA as an Engineering Cert because of the amount of concepts you have to grasp in order to pass the exam. That's why one of the requirements for the Engineering level is atleast the CCNA.
Everyone knows CCNA is for network engineers/admin roles. You don’t need to do a research. Watch the video to understand the discussion.
