Convenient timing since I just decided to change my control setup from keyboard to button box as I get more into fighting games. I considered traditional sticks and the hitbox, but I think I'll enjoy having ordered the Snackbox Micro (lovely three month wait time, popular things). As far as left hand movement and switches it is all very similar to keyboard. Down key being in the middle and your jump being the big button below is similar to S key and spacebar. What I'm excited about coming from keyboard is the ergonomic placement/angling, larger spaced buttons for less fat fingering, and just a cleaner action button setup on the right. We'll see how I learn with it in the lab. Thank you for the informative video especially the lengthy in-action segment!
Yeah I’d say this is light years better than the hitbox! The cross|up is even a better option than the standard hitbox in my opinion (I still need to do a video on that one). My favorite is the mpress but only because I have big hands so the snackbox can feel a little cramped for me during long sessions but it’s my go to portable stick for traveling! Great choice!
I have a first gen micro, and I have to say, the detachable magnetic cable is a great idea. What brand did you get that fits into the port so perfectly? Also, I say this at pretty much every chance I get when talking about the micro. A big, big reason I recommend it over the OG Hitbox is because it is so thin, and how that helps against wrist pain. OG hitbox can be fine, but its very easy to hurt your wrists with it if you need to brace your hands for placement. I have decently large hands, and I have never been able to hover with my hands while playing. Over time that pressing against the edge of the Hitbox causes some pretty severe wrist pain. The Micro is so thin you can just wrist your wrists on your legs and never need to brace them on the hard plastic of the device itself. I have been able to play all day on this without any real discomfort, and before getting it, the damage from the hitbox was so bad that I thought I might be giving up fighting games for good. This is not to disparage Hitbox though, it is a good controller, and it should be fine for many people in terms of comfort, but it was an unfortunately terrible fit for me. The Micro wound up being perfect though.
Yeah same. As a guy in his late 30s, extended play on the hitbox just hurt. So my travel stick is the snackbox and my desktop stick is the mpress now. (Or buttonless controller). The cable is a Digital Ant Gen-X 3-in-1!
@@OfficeArcade There's still a few things I miss about playing on stick over the micro, but the damage the hitbox did made resting my hand on my stick too painful for me. The Mpress looks great, but similarly, I think it would hurt my wrists to rest on at this point. I'd probably need to attach some sort of wrist cushion to any other controller, whereas the micro doesn't require it. It isn't a perfect controller, but its the one that managed to rescue me from self inflicted damage. So I'm always going to evangelize it. I also don't miss lugging around my full size arcade stick though lol. I have a powerful gaming laptop and its pretty amazing to just throw it in a bag with the micro and have a powerful travel setup that fits in a backpack. Also, thanks for the cable info, I'm definitely going to try that out!
For me because I have big hands the mpress buttons are easier for me. That’s why it’s my primary. But yeah I love the snackbox. I’m always thinking about permanently switching to it.
Hey man! I just stumbled upon your channel and loved this video - thanks so much for putting it together. I only discovered the MPress and Snack Box Micro yesterday but was immediately intrigued! It only took a few more minutes worth of research to be sold on the idea! Interestingly enough, I don't play fighting games but want both the MP and SB Micro for shmups specifically (believe it or not). While this may sound like an unusual (if not shocking) choice for controlling ship movement, I am so stoked to experiment and play shmups this way. What originally got me searching in the first place was wondering if there were arcade "sticks" on the market without an actual stick but instead a dpad. I haven't found anything yet but that's when I stumbled upon these button boxes. Super fascinating and more so for retro shmups. I'd like clarification on something - I'm assuming you went with the Art Case Edition and so, was it a matter of getting the Etsy template and then sending the Snack Box people the art so that they put it on for you or is it set up in such a way that you put the art on after the fact? If this was mentioned in the video, I must have missed it. Really trusting some become available in the near future as I am craving them to no end! I'll be watching your Mpress video sometime today since I always enjoy hearing people talk about things even if I'm not using it to decide whether or not I purchase. Thanks again and have a stellar day!
I actually love the mpress. The snackbox runs a bit small for my hands. But for travel the snackbox is my preferred stick because of the tiny form factor and light weight. The art is a stick on piece so I did NOT go with the art box. I’ve had no issues with the sticker peeling pulling it in and out of bags at locals. Glad you enjoyed the video and super happy you found it helpful!
@@OfficeArcade Awesome! Thanks for that. For the Mpress, does the cord plugging into the box stick out much or is the bulk of the metal connector adequately recessed? I saw one video point this out but perhaps they've remedied this with more recent models.
The video with my top stick came out right after. It's the MPress from paradise arcade shop. My favorite fight stick with a stick is still the Victrix by a mile. But my favorite overall including stickless is the MPress! Sorry if I wasn't clear!
@@igotdembombs it’s an amazing one! If I had to rank the big players right now 1) mpress by a long shot 2) snackbox 3) hitbox. I haven’t tried the new victrix button box yet. But I imagine that’ll beat the hitbox. But I’m not a fan of the small, flat top buttons they are using.

One other small problem is it’s not Xbox one compatible for KI.
@@OfficeArcade ah yeah. You can probably get a brook converter though.
did you have to order the snack box micro with artwork case in order to get the decal in?
Nope! The decal stays on without art case!

What's the difference between micro XL and regular micro?
The XL has the same buttons and lay out but a bigger base.

Did you feel like you had any connection or latency issues with the magnetic cable ?
Not on the snack box. But definitely on my larger sticks that draw more power. But for the snack box it works great!
great video!
Thank you Skye!
It's not 3D printed. It's a CNC machined piece of plastic. Those are rotary bit grooves.
Oh good to know. Appreciate the correction.
How did you get art work on there? Nice review
There’s and Etsy store that prints custom art for the snackbox micro.
Micro USB ports was the tech industry's biggest scam of the past 20 years. Either the cord or the port was going out
Yeah. That’s why I pooped in a magnetic micro usb permanently and use a usb chord with a magnetic head.
