It's actually insane the extent to which Bob can make "I brewed some beer with this man" sound insanely unrealistic next to "I pulled him out of a hat when he was a baby" You could give him the most normal prompt next to the weirdest thing ever and he makes it sound the least believable, and I think the scenario writers know this and don't even need to try to write it weird because he has that part covered
Bob could make "This is John. He and I became acquainted when we took the same bus most mornings for a year" sound as ridiculous a proposition as "This is John. He and I convinced a captain to give us free passage on a cruise ship as male strippers"
And not to spoil the magic, but I’m pretty sure I’ve seen both on episodes of Bob’s Burgers - though I can’t say whether this Bob watched that Bob and took it from there!

For the other one, there was a popular TV show called "Murder, She Wrote" starring Angela Lansbury, a well known American actress, in which the main character was a mystery writer who actually solved murders (that seemed to happen unexpectedly often). Again, "Murder, She Roach" is a parody of that.

Same. I became widowed nearly three years ago, and only found this show maybe two years ago. I had stopped watching TV because I couldn’t bear watching any of “our” programs. But we’d never watched any British shows together, so there were no memories attached. This group, Rob, David, Lee, and Bob, were the only escape I had, and allowed me to laugh again.

And yes, "our" shows were very painful to watch and still may be, but I haven't looked back and am slowly moving forward. I can't get this show where I am and I was delighted to discover it on UA-cam. Watched the entire series in one go. Still sane afterwards, so there is hope for me. (That's a joke). I was 100% sure it was bob , the card being so long , him liking rats which is just as strange as liking soil science and showing lee a pic seemed too good to be a bluff. At the end he usually giggles when the opponents are wrong but nope he just lied beautifully

He's one of those people that you could be having a pint with in a pub, and he starts talking, telling you about his life....and then suddenly you notice the whole pub has gone quiet and everyone is just looking and listening to him....

Genuinely thought the first guy was the pest controller sending Bob pics of rats. That's honestly such a Bob Mortimer type of relationship start, I thought it was true.
This episode was recorded before David Mitchell lost his mind due to being unable to determine Bob's fact from fiction....these days David inhabits a padded cell with pictures of Bob to act as triggers....he isn't well and scowls continuously.
Reminds me of the relationship between Chief Inspector Dreyfus and Clouseau. The classic straight man and the clown who takes himself seriously and lives in a world all his own.
I loved it when lee said he attended a village fete to judge the pig race, maybe that's how we should decide the winners, not how fast you can finish but how stylish you ran it
