Spam Spam. It comes from this sketch the "Spam". At the beginning of Web, in a forum of a fanclub of MonthyPython spaming with a lots of Spam, true story.
I read that this was in response to how England had been pretty much living on Spam since World War Two due to the privation necessary to fight the war and how they pretty much had to export everything to generate tax revenue to pay the wartime debts afterwards, including the vaunted English beef.

The same thing happened to the American soldiers, who had to deal with SPAM being a frequent component of their rations. Eventually they got so sick of SPAM that they started trading it away to the natives of wherever they were stationed in exchange for just about anything else. The natives had a tendency to go nuts for the stuff, because meat in general was traditionally a sometimes food for them, and heavily processed food was something they’d never had before. This is why SPAM is the bottom of the Hawaiian Food Pyramid; the entire archipelago got addicted to spiced pork shoulder and ham pate.

I loved Monty Python. I always found it curious that a popular British program chose a decidedly American march as its theme song, "The Liberty Bell" by John Philip Sousa. The bell itself and the march were in celebration of America's emancipation from British rule -- victory in the war for independence. Python's creators selected a theme song celebrating England's defeat. Seems odd to me, or perhaps just more of the irony so prominent in the program's comedy?

I saw on another person’s comment that they read somewhere that the second menu item was supposed to have spam in it but Terry Jones forgot to say it. But I don’t think that’s true. I think it was intentional to leave it out because I do find it funnier that Chapman’s character is so annoyed with all the items with spam that his character didn’t realize the two spam-less menu items.

Why don't we get well made programs like this anymore? I'd gladly sell modern visuals, CGI, all resolutions above 720p, and all the other "advancemnets" the entertainment industry has made to the devil if it meant we could get good quality writing and humour lile this again.
