    I'm 59 going on 60 this month. I'm white. I live in the South. I watched this movie and loved it. I loved this scene. It showed two things. First, how intelligent people are, not just Kat, but also her boss. Secondly, how painful the lives of those who lived as adults in those times. I was 'taught' the N word. From people like my grandfather and his sons, my step-uncles. If I never met him or that portion of my family, I stand here now and wonder how my view on life and my world around me might be different. I have a lot of black coworkers and even had them as a boss or supervisors in the military. I learned a real truth then. These men are really no different than me. They simply had a different path through life that I had. Funny, how a 2 hour movie can still produce such discussions. Reach down, examine, and let's talk.

    I love that answer, "I held it up to the light.". That was a great job of redaction! He had told her to look beyond, and she did. I would love to have her brain. I struggled with math and science my entire life. My brain just doesn't work that way. I'm a words person, I am a concepts person. I'm not sure exactly what I am, but I do know that math and science don't fit into my brain. My physics professor told me that I was very intelligent person and that there's no reason why I shouldn't be able to grasp the concepts. Anyway, I've made this all about me, but I do have to admit that I'm envious of her scientific brain. I love science, I just can't understand it beyond a certain point. My brain just will not go there. I guess we all have different strengths, and it obviously has nothing to do with sex or race.

    • @onlyhuman1954
      @onlyhuman1954 14 днів тому

      I'm the same. Words have always been my joy. I love them. I love fitting them together into something no one else ever has, something unique to me. I love reading poetry and marvelling at how words can convey such vast images and emotions when placed just so by the poet. Books too. I have over 1000.
      Numbers? They pass through my brain on a freight train going nowhere. I was ALWAYS bottom of my class. I don't understand numbers. Only the basic functions like simple addition/subtraction and easy fractions. Anything over that is lost. I deeply admire Katherine and all the ladies for their gifts. This film is very special. I think when Scott Glen made it clear he would only 'go' on Katherine's say is the pivotal point where all those stuffed shirts actually REALISED her genius and had to respect that. And her.

    We should always be looking for more history like this, not less. I'm sure the positive Black history we know in this country is only a fraction of the good things that Black Americans have contributed to this country. It's just a fraction, but certain people want to make it even smaller by deleting our history.
    Black history is American history, period.

    I found the bathroom scenes the best. Really brought back memories for me. I grew up in Hawaii, joined the service during the mid sixties. The first time I had to fly from a commercial airport, had to use the restroom. I was shocked to see separate bathrooms and water fountains. My queries met with laughter from the Whites and some tried to explain why but it just confused me more. Unfortunately, I learned and was exposed to that racial bias during my whole time serving. Was glad to be back home in Hawaii.
