Farsley Celtic did have a semi decent ground at one point, I know that because I was banned for life from there for apparently selling speed in the toilet at an 18th birthday party of a friend, about 18 years ago. Mental really as I wasn't. It was weed.

I am one of the bar staff who work at Farsley Celtic and to see this and share it is something which needed to be done a long time ago. The club has no money coming in whatsoever hence why the pitch looks the way it does. Us bar staff have not been paid our wages since last February. Hopefully this video will spread awareness and get us the money we are owed

Besides Ben Gibbs, this is why I love this channel. Once again Ellis shows that it isn't really football he loves, it's community and what football means to the community around it. Unfortunately this time it was a bad effect the chairman has had on this club. Not that I think you should go on a run about clubs that need better chairmanship, but this is something that needs doing and few could do it as well as you Ellis.

Can't stand people that get aggressive. I remember my local team Stalybridge Celtic played against Boreham Wood in a FA Cup game a few years back one of our regular fans has a drum and one of the Boreham Wood fans took exception to it because he was standing next to it in the next stand and kept saying for us to shut the F up next thing you know he's come over with his mats kicked the drum over and smashed it to pieces. Stewards kicked them out but what's the point it's literally a game of Football. Unfortunately we lost the game too

Thank you for covering our club’s story Ellis. I’ve been a fan and volunteer at the club for almost 20 years and this is the worst state I’ve seen it in, even compared to when the initial club went under in 2010 (at least we were able to play fixtures at home that season).
The way the owner Paul Barthorpe has handled the club, particularly over the last nine months has been absolutely catastrophic (allegedly 😂).
The owner refuses to have an open dialogue with supporters and as you referenced in the video just pans off the non commencement of pitch work as third-party contractor issues. At almost any point when fans question claims and promises made in the ‘chairman’s updates’ they’re almost immediately blocked by the chairman who likes to muscle in on the club’s Facebook account, rather than front up to the issues he’s created. Basically acting like a wannabe dictator.
In a similar ilk, the club’s recently appointed CEO was then calling fans ‘dick heads’ on social media, when they again challenged some of the unsubstantiated claims and promises from the owner in terms of the commencement of pitch works. The relationship between senior management at the club and the supporters is non-existent and has been this way for months, almost completely down to the way he communicates or more so refuses to communicate properly with the wider club, let alone even attend first team games.
Almost all of the senior and long serving players and coaching staff have left the club in recent months due to the way they’ve been treated by the owner. Despite his claims to the contrary, there have been regular occurrences where players have been several weeks behind on wages and with so little income streams currently for the club, it’s little wonder where the source of this lies. The owner has regularly stated that this isn’t the case but why would players be lying about this, particularly ones that have had 5+ year associations with the club and care deeply about Farsley Celtic?
We started the season with the manager that had kept us up last season with a healthy sized first team senior squad able to compete adequately at National League North level. After he was let go and the player wages started to be deferred, our core squad started to be ripped apart with senior players and staff departing. The incoming manager is doing his best and has picked up numerous solid results so far this season but with little experience of management at this level and clearly having the budget for the squad slashed, a reliance on predominantly younger players and a revolving door of loan players is starting to take its toll on our league performances. They’re doing their best but there’s only so much they can achieve against normally functioning semi-professional sides they’re up against.
It’s such a shame that the owner has brought the club into this state it’s currently in but he does not seem to want to or even be able to be honest with the loyal and honest fans that this community club thrives upon. Countless excuses about why the pitch work has not commenced just don’t wash anymore, it’s clear that combined with the issues with deferred wages, the owner simply doesn’t have the money to fund the pitch improvements, let alone cover the cost budgeted for the first team that started the season.
In cases like this, as you said at the end of the video Ellis, is when owner should be honest to themselves and the fans and admit that they’re not able to effectively run the football club and make the decision to sell before it’s too late.

Thank you Ellis. I'm a Farsley fan that goes to home and away games. I moved back to Kent a few years ago and up until this season was going to pretty much every Saturday game.
At times not knowing when and where we're going to play has made it impossible to afford to go to games and it feels like I'm missing a big part of my life.
The owner is just a tyrant who shouldnt be anywhere near a football club. I'm sure he'll come out with lies saying some stuff you've said isn't true. Unfortunately it is true.
Currently I'm unable to see his updates on Facebook when they come because he's blocked a lot of loyal fans for little or no reason. What a joke.
    Barthorpe out
EDIT: The maddest thing is, theres plenty of things he hasnt mentioned too. Plenty of staff haventt been paid. Some bar staff since Feb!!
On the way to Curzon Ashton we got placed on another transfer embargo I believe. This resulted in the manager getting off the coach.
When the fans turned up at Kidderminster this year, we didnt have a registed keeper for the game until an hour or so before.
    The list goes on!!

This is a brilliant and informative video Ellis. As a Leamington fan (and Head of Media, but fan first), we were Farsley’s first “home” game of the season - that was meant to be at Farsley, then Bradford (PA), and then Alfreton - where it was finally played.
We were lucky that Farsley fans didn’t boycott that one as it was their first (and meant to be only) game played at a neutral ground & we got to speak to many of them (about 30 there) and really hear first hand about everything. Really hoping that something gets sorted soon for them and their close knit fanbase 🤞💛

Great video Ellis, my club Truro city is definitely a club you might want to cover, we had been homeless for years. We've finally got a home again now back in Cornwall with a great new facility but the story of the last 15 years or so has been crazy, not least the last few. Having to ground share with multiple clubs the farthest being Gloucester city 200 miles away, playing 10 games in 20 days at the end of last season being just a couple of the situations we've had to deal with. Thankfully with the new ground, new owners, big attendances and having a great season in the NLS we can finally look forwards to a bright future. Keep up the good work.

Check out Truro city and their 23/24 season.
Homeless, had to move ground 3 times due to matches being postponed at the venues they were ground sharing. Ended up playing games in Gloucester. And because of those postponements had to play 8 matches in two weeks at the end if the season.
Their commute to Gloucester for matches? 3hrs.

Went to Farsley Celtic twice, one with my team FC Halifax (in a friendly), then again as a neutral when they played Alfreton Town in 2021, I had no idea this had happened to them, I hope they can get it all resolved soon, Good Luck Farsley!!!

Been a farsley Celtic follower for the last 15 years, started going due to the cost of going to Leeds United games, had some great seasons about 5 or 6 years ago but I haven’t been to a game this season because of other commitments and the fact a 10 minute commute to the home ground has turned to a 2 hour one, thanks for sharing light on the shady side of non-league

As a Coventry fan, we've been through hell and back, two groundshares among other things so I know exactly what Farsley fans are going through, its horrible and I really feel for them. They don't deserve it, pure and simple. I know other clubs are really struggling too, Scunthorpe being one that comes to mind, it always comes back to the chairman and what almost feels like a personal vendetta.
Utterly fair play to George for taking you to the game and putting the story ahead of his own personal boycott. Please have him back on sometime even if it's just an update on the club.

Always sad to see. Sympathies from another team that lost their home (and club itself) AFC Rushden & Diamonds. We figured out how to get into our 6-7k seat stadium so we could sit in our old seats and walk on the ruined pitch like these guys but eventually they demolished it and all that is left is rubble. Such a nice ground it was (Nene park), after Rushden & Diamonds FC went bust, Kettering Town left their actual home in Kettering and tried to take it on.... which resulted in them nearly going bust as well and now they and AFC RD are ground sharing at local clubs still over 10 years later.

    • @djktfc
      @djktfc 5 годин тому

Nene Park was a fantastic ground, even as a Kettering fan it's a shame to see it gone when driving up the A6. In another spectacular display of poor football club ownership by Imraan Ladak and incompentency from the council, we lost our home of 114 years at Rockingham Road. I can't even look at the houses built on it when I drive past there. When we moved to Nene Park there was no chance we'd afford to keep the lights on. The only thing I liked about R&D was the diamond burger! Some cracking memories of big derby days which I hope at some point in the future we'll experience again. UTP! ;)

Don't do social media so trying youtube. Thankyou for making this video, i'm not a farsley supporter but fly the flag for non league in Leeds, and have watched Farsley home and away many times, including the game when they stayed up (saw myself on the pitch in those clips haha). Its a joke what is happening, barthorpe is a disgrace and sadly the 'allegedly' after every statement is probably needed. According to FSSC theres buyers who have expressed an interest too so it's just simply ego at this point from barthorpe, and it was in the first place, he wrote on facebook he only bought them becuase of football manager.
If that really was the Rushall chairman i would have had a word about that blob. Absolute wetwipe, fair play for keeping the camera on him a worldwide embarrasment is deserved. Thanks again.

Although it's probably not for me to apologise but as someone who grew up with Rushall as a local team I am sorry a few moronic supporters impacted your video. Dales Lane where Rushall play is a great family stadium for a club playing well above where they would be expected to be. Unfortunately like at all clubs we have a few idiots. Keep up the good work and up the away days 👏🏻

People should know about Sassuolo football club in Italy, they currently sit at the top of serie b after being relegated last season for the first time in around 10 or so years, because of the owner and his wife passing away in quick succession, giving ownership then to the son of the previous owner. After a poor last season, theyve been doing not too bad in serie b. They've been playing in Reggio Emilia a town thats over an hour away from Sassuolo and pushed the home team (ac Reggiana) out of their own stadium (also in serie b), forcing them to play in another smaller stadium, even though they have the mapei (stadium tricolore) stadium in their own city. You can't even buy any merch from the stadium, only some snack and beer. I've been to a game against Spezzia, one of the bigger games in the season, and barely anyone was there. It was surreal to see such a large and neat stadium go empty. The away fans were almost more and were definitely louder than the Sassuolo fans. If you find the budget to go over to Northern Italy (directly between Parma and Modena) definitely visit Reggio Emilia and Sassuolo.

Jesus christ i've never seen anything like this before. Really feels like a ghost town watching this match. Absolutely heartbreaking story, there’s obviously a lot us fans of other teams don’t know too. Shame there couldn’t be a targeted game for fans of outside teams to turn up and show what a mess this club is in, get the media and TV on board and it would be great exposure. We maybe tribal but at the end of the day we are also a football family and as a supporter of Blackpool FC I’m more than aware of other clubs fans been very supportive in our hours of need. Good Luck Farley Celtic and great work Ellis and Away Days
