Gorgeous. That Talon is still my favorite character in the show. 'Nice to see it back in action after the drive-train issue. No doubt the poor beast will get broken again, since it's often the "Oooh, let's try this" subject in the group, but in many ways that's what I like about it. A restored classic car like the Grand National is a joy to behold, so it's great that you keep them close to the original stock form. In the case of DSM's however, much of the reason that they became so popular in the first place so many people tried to juice them up. In that light, one could argue that the only way to keep a DSM in true "classic" condition is to never stop modifying it.
Very well said William! First off, you're point about DSMs in their "classic" condition is a very interesting one. Almost reminds me of how post WWII hot rods are today. The period correct modified versions are as important as bone stock 1932s of the day. Also your observation of the cars in my videos as characters is very interesting! I really love that perspective and it's changed how I think about my videos. Thank you for the unique observation!
Your Eagle Talon TSI AWD Turbo was basically my dream car! I didn't expect that you could make it out so much power while keeping the exterior intact! Thanks for the video, I love it so much!!!😍
Hey Tom! Just wanted to let you know I enjoy your videos and the passion you have for DSMs! It's a lot of fun to see someone putting out knowledgeable, informative, and detailed videos about this stuff. I have a 2g GST that I have driven through high school and college. This summer, with help from a parts car, we converted it to what I call the GST-X. Naturally, your videos have me dreaming up all kinds of new chapters for my hot rod. Thanks and keep putting this stuff out! Boost on!!!
Thank you Jay, glad you enjoyed it! I looked at all of my DSM videos and realized that it was all straight-line stuff. I drive this beast through the twisties all the time and wanted to share that with y'all!
good to see you still get the old dsm out. I commented on one of your videos a while back telling you i was trying to buy a 91 tsi awd and a month ago i finnaly got one. runs like total crap, has a broken cv shaft, for some reason the engine wont turn more than 3k rpm's and its running rich enough to get about 10 mpg. even with all of those problems it is by far my favorite car ive ever owned. getting ready to start with and engine swap and replacing the cv shaft, seeing how great yours runs gives me alot of hope for mine. keep up the great videos man, i watch every one the day you post them.
Congrats on your DSM! Unfortunately, most out there being sold are in this condition. Just take your time, be patient and you'll have it fixed up right! Thank you for the support and I'm glad you enjoy the videos!
Music to my ears. Really curious to see what she'll do in the quarter. Can't wait. As always awesome video Tom. BTW your uploads are one of my favorites on youtube. Have a merry xmas!
I love driving on the windy roads in the mountains here in Colorado, though i generally go late at night because theirs too much traffic during the day.
Love the vids I also have a dsm mines a 92 Plymouth Laser RS just had one question what exhaust set up do you have on your talon? It sounds so good I'd love to know
my first car i bought when i was 14 was a 1990 eagle talon tsi black and silver two tone, im searching for another one and i want to do pretty much the same build, this car is beautiful and i hope i can find one soon.
Hey, Tom. Thanks for uploading these vids. I have a question that I woud like help with. I just put in a new clutch this past weekend in my 91 Talon (non-turbo) 2.0 and for some reason the "Check Engine" light will not come on when you turn the key and the car cranks but will not start. I heard it could be the ECU. Have any advice? Thanks in advance.
ganuv I use 20w-50 synthetic, of course I've been called a fool for running that, so be sure to do your own research. Transmission oil in the DSM world is another very controversial topic, usually folks like either factory spec redline synthetic or something like Pennzoil Synchromesh. Good luck!
Synchomesh is a no no according to several builders. Jacks Transmission recommends Mitubishi's gear oil designed for the Evo 8's MR 6 speed trans. Even warranties his transmissions so long as you use it. Do more research or go to jacks website to read more about it.
Definitely! The original owner had a long work commute, but always garage parked the car and was impeccable when it came to maintenance. The car is in very good condition given the mileage.
Thanks man! I wish I had more free time to work on videos. That said, look for something in early February. Have a good one and good luck with your Talon!
I've noticed that you turn the key to the on position and hold it for a second or two prior to engaging the starter. Assuming this is not for dramatic effect, are you doing this to allow the fuel pump to build pressure in the line? I always seem to have issues with faulty fuel pump check valves.
Hello Tom, I have a two part question here. 1. I have a saturn ion redline and i don't know if you know about them or whatever but i have a supercharged one and atm and my question would be do you think that i should get a stage two supercharger or should i go on a full turbo swap with a smaller pulley, Really curious on your opinion about this cause i can't decide what to do. 2. Just recently bought a talon tsi 1gen with a 4g63 in the motor but it has 280k miles should i swap for a 420a or should i just rebuild the motor? I also would like to make my talon roughly about 500-600hp which out switching to meth if i can or go higher than 91 pump gas cause i live in colorado. Thank you for your opinion and it really helps.
teri hansen Pull the fuse on the overdrive. If you go to a mechnic, make sure he checks the overdrive clutch pack. You can do it yourself. it is in the wheel well. cost about a100 bucks to have done. Instead of the 1800 dollar rebuild one garage quoted me. Transmissions are voodoo.
I would have came from Canada to buy your talon Tom. Hopefully it went to a good home. I think I even messaged you about it. I just picked up a 91 with 182,000 kms. Its not a panda like I desired however.
Thanks man, I appreciate that. I sold it as a rolling chassis to a local DSMer and yes, it went to a great home. Best of luck with your 91, they are great fun!
The Police have used UA-cam clips as evidence over here and in the US. After posting a video of himself going three times the speed limit one guy was imprisoned for eighteen months.
Love the car Tom! Makes me miss mine. Hopefully get a new one this summer! What exhaust are you running? Also, is your wastegate an open dump or does it recirculate into your exhaust? It sounds like its open dump but for some reason i just cant tell, but i LOVE the way it sounds!! Keep up the videos, always fun to watch! Thanks :)
Thank you! I am running a Megan racing 3" cat back, 3" off road pipe (when I'm off road, of course) and a DIY 3" v-band down pipe. The waste gate does dump to the atmosphere. Have a good one!
Hey Tom, how does the talon handle with stock suspension? does it oversteer understeer? and would you recommend coil overs or something like that if i were to get one?
Hi Caleb, I've always had KYB AGX struts and H&R lowering springs on mine. Get some sticky tires and it's a pretty darn good and affordable combo for good handling. AWDs naturally understeer due to the layout/balance.
Hi James, thank you! No it's a curvy mountain road that's a little closer and much less traveled than the Dragon. That said I need to get back to the Dragon this spring!
sounds awesome I cant wait to hear my set up this year it will be completely different to my last set up :D then its track times since I have only 9 passes under my belt with a 13 flat at 110mph trap time (ei not a perfect run lets say lol) but practise and experience is key
Awesome car. I remember from the '90s that those Eagle Talons were killers at the Philly street races and on the highway.
Glad to see the old girl is still running like a beast!
Thanks Tommy!
So.... Who want's to see this car over on the /DRIVE channel? I say we start a petition to get Tom on Tuned!
Thanks man, I appreciate the sentiment!
Gorgeous. That Talon is still my favorite character in the show. 'Nice to see it back in action after the drive-train issue. man that 4g63 sound. evo or eclipse, love it
Your Eagle Talon TSI AWD Turbo was basically my dream car! I didn't expect that you could make it out so much power while keeping the exterior intact! Thanks for the video, I love it so much!!!😍
Quite impressive and unusual to see a turbo engine reving so high. The sound of it is quite pleasant too, for a 4 pots
Had a memorable drive in one in 89. They were great value back then
Oh DEAR GOD, this is the most amazing thing I've ever laid my eyes upon! Definitely the best DSM video out there haha
Haha, glad you enjoyed it!
ah, 9k shift points are nice! us V8 guys don't get to shift out at those very high RPMs!
Thanks and I agree! High rpms small engines, in my opinion, are about as equally fun as the fat, syrupy low-end torque of a big v8!
F1 cars do and higher!
4 cylinders 3 diamonds 2liters 1 turbo zero chance of losing dsm 4 life love the vid tom
Yeah man!! Thanks Jake!

It will just be a GSX then!
I'm aware of the correct nomenclature. It was simply our project name during the build.
Love all of your Talon videos and this one is probably the best so far. Hope you and your Family have a Happy Holidays!
Thank you for saying that and I'm glad you enjoyed it! Happy Holidays to you and yours!
Out of all the videos ever to be uploaded to UA-cam, this is the absolute best one. Thank you Tom.
randol35 You're welcome sir and I'm glad you enjoyed it!
So happy to see another vid of this car! Of all your cars this is my favorite. Glad to see someone else takes their 1g around corners too haha
Thank you Jay, glad you enjoyed it! I looked at all of my DSM videos and realized that it was all straight-line stuff. I drive this beast through the twisties all the time and wanted to share that with y'all!
@@TomsTurboGarage This is over 8 years old now, but this was great. I loved seeing it, love this car and the eclipse, so thank you for sharing this!
I think Tom has to turn the clock back, and build another one of these for us.
Awesome video Tom! I really enjoy watching the videos on your channel.
Thank you sir, I appreciate it!
Thanks for posting this. My uncle use to have a red one back in the 90's and use to drive my cousins and me in it. Really awesome car! :D
You're welcome man, glad you enjoyed it!
Great! Nice to see the DSM again.
Thanks man!
That's crazy.... When that turbo hits it's just BAM!!
I put this car up there with one of my favorites the skyline R34 Vspec Good vid 👍🏽
I don't think I have seen another talon that sounds as amazing as this.
joemygod1960 Thank you sir!
just found your channel and your videos are sick!! thank you for the good watch.
I had 2 and a half of these. Really fun cars.
Oh my gawd, I can't breath. That was beautiful.
Thanks man!

This is why I subscribed. Elegance at its best.
Thanks and I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Awesome video as always! Merry Christmas Tom :D
Thank you and Merry Christmas to you too!
What a very clean beast!
Thanks Peter!
that was beautiful, I miss my both my 1G's now :(
Thank you sir! Heck I still miss my first DSM.
It revs OVER 9000!!!!!!!!
Haha, yeah man! I usually shift this thing at 9500 according to the datalogger, the tach lags behind a bit.
My first new car purchase, when I was in the Air Force. Same color
This car sounds amazing lol, not often you see people taking dsm's with this kind of power through the twisties
Thanks for the good video! Keep em' coming!
Thanks Jason!
Please do one like this in the GN. Love the vids you're an expert!
Thank you sir, I appreciate the kind words!
Nice way to spend the weekend :)
I agree!! :-D

Thank you Chris and Happy Holidays to you!
Badass video man! Looks just like my 1G did! Keep up the good work

I love driving on the windy roads in the mountains here in Colorado, though i generally go late at night because theirs too much traffic during the day.
Yes Tom it's very nice to see the old DSM again! This video was well overdue haha.
Thanks Alex
Thank you Alex, glad you liked it!
Awesome car and professional video
Thank you sir!
Reminds me of my 1991 Talon, same color I'm the 3rd owner of this example of a DSM, come on spring!
I agree, I'm tired of the polar vortex already!
Nice sounding exhaust!
Thanks!
I miss this car Tom. You need another one.
Oh yeahhhhh great to see!!
Thanks Joppie, glad you liked it!
Holy rev!
You do everything right!
Thank you for saying that Alex. Nobody's perfect, but I try to do my best with these old beasts!
Your car sounds so good!
Thanks Evan!
Your welcome tom
Love the vids I also have a dsm mines a 92 Plymouth Laser RS just had one question what exhaust set up do you have on your talon? It sounds so good I'd love to know
my first car i bought when i was 14 was a 1990 eagle talon tsi black and silver two tone, im searching for another one and i want to do pretty much the same build, this car is beautiful and i hope i can find one soon.

That car is bad ass i would love one for a project

Hey tom. I was wondering what exhaust setup did you use. It was music to my ears. I have a 95 Tsi and want a beautiful exhaust note
How can I connect the radio
Speechless!!!
Thanks man!
Thanks!! Just the motivation I needed!! time to : GET TO WORK !!
There ya go man, I like the sound of that!! LET'S DO THIS!!!!
I think that your vids are great and very detailed im just wondering why you ever stopped with this beautiful talon
What exhaust was on that car? I want mine to sound about like that
It's like The Smoking Tire meets Haggard Garage meets Engineering Explained or something........and NHRA. Love it!
Nice to see you in the old DSM again!
Thank you, it's always a hoot to take it for a spin!
Tom's Turbo Garage hey tom..what engine oil u using? and my trani is kinda hard to shift, any suggestion on what trani oil to use? thx
ganuv I use 20w-50 synthetic, of course I've been called a fool for running that, so be sure to do your own research. Transmission oil in the DSM world is another very controversial topic, usually folks like either factory spec redline synthetic or something like Pennzoil Synchromesh. Good luck!

TurboMitsubishi aaaand this is why I never ever mention what fluids that I run in any sort of public place. :-D
sounds good
Thank you!
220,xxx miles. That's amazing!
Definitely! The original owner had a long work commute, but always garage parked the car and was impeccable when it came to maintenance. The car is in very good condition given the mileage.
Fix that boost gage?

Thank you!
Lol everybody waiting on you to post a new video tom including me, I can't wait to get my talon back on the road
Thanks man! I wish I had more free time to work on videos. That said, look for something in early February. Have a good one and good luck with your Talon!
so sweet bro
Thanks John!
How much horsepower/torque did this thing make before you sold it?
Beautiful build Tom. Do you mind if I ask how much you sold it for?
I had one just like this. I loved it. It was too much money to take care of it.
I've noticed that you turn the key to the on position and hold it for a second or two prior to engaging the starter. Assuming this is not for dramatic effect, are you doing this to allow the fuel pump to build pressure in the line? I always seem to have issues with faulty fuel pump check valves.
Yes, I do it for fuel reasons- I noticed that it starts faster and easier if I give the fuel pump a moment to wake up. :-D
That is a bad ass car.
Thanks man!
Nice, it's sick.
Thanks Michael!
Hey Tom what's all done to it
ahhhhhhhhhh i love it!
Thanks Don!
Hello Tom, I have a two part question here. 1. Does anyone know how to get a 91 mitsubishi eclipse automatic out of 3rd gear
teri hansen Pull the fuse on the overdrive. If you go to a mechnic, make sure he checks the overdrive clutch pack. You can do it yourself. it is in the wheel well. cost about a100 bucks to have done. Instead of the 1800 dollar rebuild one garage quoted me. Transmissions are voodoo.
DSM is for life love it man. so did you sell it ? . I have 3 but my favorite is my 98 tsi awd auto
Holy poop! ~8 seconds to 100! That's crazy!
Haha, thank Jobe.
I sure miss watching your super clean builds. How many of these beasts do you still have??
thats a mean dsm man!
Thanks man!
The old girl is sounding awsome.
Thank you Ryan! Hope your Evo is doing great!
I would have came from Canada to buy your talon Tom. Hopefully it went to a good home. I think I even messaged you about it. I just picked up a 91 with 182,000 kms. Its not a panda like I desired however.

Nice to see the Eagle back on the road Tom after the U-Joint failure. Have you had a chance to get back to the track?
Thanks man, I have not been back to the track. I tried to go a couple times but between rainy fridays, work, etc it didn't happen.
Hey tom what turbo is in the car in this video?
Hi Nick, all of the details can be found at talon.turbomirage.com
I always wondered was this a stock internal 6bolt ?
I believe so.
Awwww yeahhh!
I like the way you edited the speedo' shot from a run on a private test track. Obviously nobody would drive that quickly on a public road. ;-)
Uh why do you think some of us get speeding tickets?
The Police have used UA-cam clips as evidence over here and in the US. After posting a video of himself going three times the speed limit one guy was imprisoned for eighteen months.
Yes sir, you are correct - that section was on a closed course.
Nice!
Thank you!
Thanks Tom
caleb Reedy You're welcome!
Hey Tom hope you are well do you still own the talon ?
Thank you sir! Sadly I do not, but it went to a good home.
Hey Tom great video love the DSM that isn't the Dragon by chance is it ?
Hi James, thank you! No it's a curvy mountain road that's a little closer and much less traveled than the Dragon. That said I need to get back to the Dragon this spring!
That thing sounds awesome man, is that on the 68hta or the pte turbo??
Thank you! It's on the PTE turbo running low boost.
Hey Tom as a fellow dsmer I was wondering what happened to your old beastly talon?
Hey man! I sold it last January: talon.turbomirage.com/talon_goodbye.html
Thunderbolt is cool and all but I miss the DSM videos.
When did you fix the driveline?
I fixed it over the summer. It just needed new u-joints.
sounds awesome I cant wait to hear my set up this year it will be completely different to my last set up :D then its track times since I have only 9 passes under my belt with a 13 flat at 110mph trap time (ei not a perfect run lets say lol) but practise and experience is key
Thank you and good luck with your car!
thanks cant wait to here with the gt40 on my built block 4g64 block long rod stroker. :D
