I myself personally is from South Auckland 267 Manurewa And tbh This made me cry South aucklands a really good place nothings bad around here We're just normal human beings Living our lives Because that's just Gods plan for us
With South Auckland most peoples perceptions are solely based on what they see via the media. And until you actually live there you can't truly understand what it means to live here the vast majority of us have lived here most our lives. And know everybody on our street (you tell me if you know your neighbours on a first name basis not the Asian or maori guy on the corner?) and have friends for ever I can't say it's all lies that we all live in harmony there a many bad situations which happen within South Auckland. The difference is that our laundry is always put out there for display and yours is not also you never see the beautiful things we do. Such as community events, charity events, helping youth and many other things. I grew up in mangere moved to Manurewa and all I can say is South Auckland is home.
Definitely agree with ya! South Auckland is a beautiful place and doesn't get enough recognition for all the amazing things it produces.. e.g Community Events, Role Models etc..
Sam Matangi Very true, I moved here 6months ago from the South Island and was expecting to see Gang's everywhere and idk really hahaha, But it's actually fine, I'm in Takanini and know my way around here and Papakura now and I actually enjoy being anonymous it's refreshing. I find people from around here are more friendly than the town lot that's for sure.
@@theresamischeski71 Thats true, I moved to South Auckland from Central Otago and was also surprised how safe it was. I feel more in danger walking around Invercargill lol.
@@MrGettinBlazed He's saying ' do you know your surrounding neighbours on a 1st name basis, not just being able to declare their race...I.e- "Yeah I know that Maori guy, or that asian lady that lives over there"... Do you know their name, do you say hello. Thats what he means.
Man, big ups to those who were involved in this project! Whatever was lacked into making this film was definitely made up for in ingenuity, genuineness and a sheer passion for the perspective you have! Hi5 mann.. I'm looking into doing something myself.. Early days tho but needed to thank you for allowing me to enjoy experiencing your guys light.. South Auckland IS Home!
I was born in Otara, back in 1986,it was tough back then,so I can relate to you guys, now I live in Australia,it was my parents idea to move to Australia to try and live a better life,we left alot of family's & friends back at New Zealand,so I've always wondered how are they today, what they have been up to, it's just been a very long time that I haven't been able to go back to NZ,I mean I would love to go back to see my place of birth,Otara, where I grew up as a kid,so yeah, this video was really great to watch, one day,I hope to go back to Otara,New Zealand and just think how beautiful Otara was when I was there,so much memories.
Very nice video supporting my born and raised neighborhood, although my family moved from Papatoetoe to L.A. and we live, work and enjoy the benefits of this country, but will never forget my origin, home and the backbone. I 💗 you South Auckland and thank the people who made this video. ✌✌✌
SOUTH AUCKLAND where talent is found alot of great talent came from these streets from a media that dispize and view as a negative place My home n heart will always be in SOUTH AUCKLAND
Well done on this documentary. The voices of tomorrow are yours, the youth. So to see that you are able to put this together with a goal to show media the real thoughts and hearts of those who live in South Auckland is an amazing effort. I pray they get to see this and realize that it's not about what they think, but it's about the future of South Auckland, our Youth. South Auckland is not a 'type' of people, but a diversity of cultures. Again, Well Done 😃👍👍👍😃
I use to be ashamed of being from south auckland but south auckland made me who i am today and im proud that i struggled it kept me strong!! South auckland is the heart of polynesian people like me😊
the only reason why i like visiting south Auckland is i get to see and relate to my pacific peoples. whether its maori, samoan, tongan, niuan, we are all apart of Polynesia. Europeans and Asians in NZ have the luxury of always seeing those that they can relate too because they are ubiquitous no matter where you are in the world. us polynesians aren't so lucky in that aspect. NZ is the largest polynesian nation in the world and is home to the largest polynesian population, yet we are still a minority in our own land. i'm not going to comment about the past because the past is the past and we just have to move on and do better and be better than our past selves.
Same when I go outside of auckland I don't fit in when I'm in south auckland I feel comfortable with my own people when you go up north yo don't hardly see any brown people everyone feels comfortable with people that look like yourself I'm south auckland raised when my cousin from Christchurch comes over he suprise seeing so many brown faces he thought he was in the islands he basically grew up in a white area where hardly brown people he was the only brown person in the area when he came to south auckland he wanted live here he felt like he was home he didn't feel like the odd one out because everyone look like him

There are some nice parts out south too, I've seen some nice neighborhoods in Papakura and Papatoetoe. I'm from out west and we certainly have some neighborhoods that would be classed as undesirable.
Don't ever down our flags people be proud of who you are as an individual and stay up, even if English ain't your mother tongue bless up and preserve life.
Cool insight into Teenagers thoughts on South Auckland. Love S.A, its home, but its structured for failure. Once inflation and re-gentrification takes full flight, it'll be interesting to see what future it has. Crossing my fingers its not poverty stricken in the next 10years
Thanks for this! Great doco. South Auckland is a definitely a unique place. Home is what you make it. Every place isn't perfect but you can definitely see what makes south Auckland and that is its people!
I grew up in South Auckland and it had the kindest community out of all the places I've lived. It was home before the housing crisis and everything changed.
A friendly reminder for people living in South Auckland. If you are living with a lot of people with only one toilet, don't drink less water and pee less. That will seriously affect your kidney. You may have kidney stone in long term. Better to pee it in public toilets or even in the garden.
I think there are a lot of bad people in south Auckland but there are also many many kind people like the kindest people u will meet. How I know this? I use to live there It's gross TBH

Honestly, just my opinion amd from what i have seen in person, i hate south auckland. To me it just looks dirty and non livable. Like 1 time i went into kmart all the clothes that people have tried on are just thrown on the ground and chocolates are stript out of their packets and eaten. The vibe that it gives off to me makes me feel unsafe wherever i went in south auckland.
