I think this is a fantastically done training video. Enjoyed it. Got a bid for a small side driveway. Woe. Can’t afford that. Most is between a concrete fence base (concrete between each 6x6 fence post). The other side is the foundation of our garage. Can I do smaller pours over a few weeks, as I can afford? Was going to use a tow concrete trailer….

Great video as usual. Thank for your time and content. One question I have, is it always necessary to use an iso strip when meeting the house or foundation? Thank you again.

I'm looking to pour a 15' x 75' patio against the back of my house. The only thing i'm unsure about is how many joints I need to cut in? And do I need to just use surface joints or do I need to use the rubber joints every so many feet?
Looked like you got good service from the ready-mix co. You had the top part poured and screeded before the patio was ready to broom. What kind of spacing do you usually ask for, on a slab like that, for the trucks?
Usually no spacing. We empty a truck and screed it in 15- 20 minutes on average, especially when using a pump. They do give us good service because of that.
@@MikeDayConcrete We used to use boom pumps pretty much all the time. For a typical pour I would always ask for a 10min spacing or 60yds/hr. That allowed us to have, 2 trucks at the hopper, so the pumping was continuous, 1 truck washing out, 1 truck ready to back up to the hopper, 1 truck driving to the job and 1 returning to the plant. That was always a pretty good formula to keep 6-7 finishers going on a ~200yd pour.
@Mike Day Concrete is it best to pour patio slabs after you’ve already poured the house foundation. Or is it best to pour it all together? What are the pros/cons of either method?
Nice finish. Once question, I have a 6m x 4m pad to lay so that is about 18f x 12f and 4inches deep, if its being tiled after with travertine stone tiles laid with exterior tile adhesive should I still cut expansion joints into it? Many thanks from Europe.
I talked to this crew one time of little people and I noticed they had a little bit of concrete on their clothiers and I asked them what they did and they said they were cement finishers, I was amazed they are the perfect height for straight edging.
Mike i poured a slab the other day and the top of it is really soft so I can just scrub it with my foot and a lot of dust comes off of it it’s a 6” thick was a 4” slump with air but added 10 gallons to 8 yards it was just hand troweled that Night but went back to it the next day so what do you think I did wrong
Love your videos! I’m new to pouring/finishing. I’m doing a 16’x14’ pad I can only strike it on 16’ end threw. Should I use 2x4 in middle and pour 8x14 then pull and do other side? I’ll be using 2x4 to strike.
Dunno if you guys gives a damn but if you guys are bored like me during the covid times you can watch pretty much all of the latest movies on Instaflixxer. I've been binge watching with my gf for the last couple of months xD
I mag and trowel at the same time troweling makes the cement shine, dust brooms up here are better,, cement brooms are heavy but still good,, up here mag an broom is city sidewalks standard,, patios and balconies driveways,,, mag on the left hand and finish trowel right hand,, then broom is standard in Toronto 🖒 the trowel makes the cement shine! ,,there's even a cement company called CBM or another called Inercon 'lafarge'' patented a shine chemical just for that look,,,, with cure n seal an sealant the product looks amazing 🖒🎇
Just had concrete job done and came to UA-cam because my slab is dusting bad and is pitting. My contractor did not use anything to release his forms. Moreover, he just plain cut corners. I wish I would have seen a proper job like this first. My wife and I paid our contractor 2600.00 and he did a poor job. I hope to get my money refunded. Subscribed.
Love to watch professionals work!

What is your opinion about using power trowel before brooming?
Thanks in advance
It's usually ready to broom before it's ready for a power trowel. We have used power trowels on larger pours and on parking garages.

Maybe one expansion joint to make it two 9x12 pieces.
Would there be issues using a Fresno with air entrained concrete for an outdoor slab like this?
I don't like using a fresno on air - entrained concrete. It could seal the surface over and trap air or moisture.
Mike, was the finish grade going up to the top of the patio or did you strip off the forms after the video and finish the outside edge?
It was all getting covered with landscaping.
tough to do that kick screening unless you are pretty low to the ground !! I tried it but being 6ft5 not that easy !!
You're right Tim. How do you screed?
@@MikeDayConcrete I do all the screeding myself !! Can screed up to 12ft wide with a good rake man !!! The lower the slump the shorter the screed !!

Thanks Aaron!
How thick is that? What thickness do you normally use on patios?
Hey Mike, it varies usually from 4 - 6 inches.

What was the air temperature?
Forgot to say that but it got down to 30 I believe anytime can do to save it?
I meant anything I can do to save it?
Ckeck and see if concert company put Fly Ash in the mix. There’s nothing you could have done that the concert would still be soft.
Thanks for replying I’m still scratching my head I’m not a pro but have poured lots of concrete in the last 15 years and never had that problem

You probably should. The smaller sections will be easier to screed.

No exposed walls.
Thank you.
magnesium trowel ??????
Hi, do you do concrete foundations?
Thank you
No, just flat stuff.
