Can this be over-ridden by flipping the switch on or off manually? Just wondering because there's at least one other reason to run a bathroom fan besides humidity.
This video is so much on time for me. I implemented it the same day that went live. I implemented with a third reality switch (the 3rd gen, fantastic if you can't/won't change the switch). I only change one detail, I am using two variables for the threshold so it is easy to find the sweet point (I am using the 2 sensors version). Great video!
I'm new to home automation and this is exactly what I want to do with our bathroom fan. But, the problem is my husband is kind of "old school" and will want to turn the fans on/off himself rather than have it automated (for him). What happens when he turns the fan on and it's < 65% humidity? Will it turn OFF on its own? Like, can you set an "override" that basically says, "If turned on/off manually, do not trigger this rule."
I just received at Hubitat Elevation C8 (4/15/2023), so I am new to this device. This video is very helpful. Just a question... What happens if the fan switch is turned on manually? Since in this case it would not be triggered by the Action, would it still turn the fan off? I don't think it will, because it was not turned on by the Action and therefore leave the fan running, due to using a wait. Sometimes bathroom fans are turned on manually for odors. I assume that I would need a different action to automatically turn the fan off, after it was turned on manually for a specified amount of time. Am I correct with my philosophy?
In the two sensor method, I haven't figured out a way to edit the actions humidity offset without deleting everything and starting again. Am I missing something?
You should explain how to automate a cat litter box. I.e. send a notification when the cat has left a “gift”! Using a motion sensor. It can be very helpful for monitoring your kitty’s health.
I've put a motion sensor in my cat box. When it detects motion it turns on the wall outlet for 5 minutes where I have an air freshener plugged in. Also, have rules to turn on the air freshener if the door is closed for 5 minutes and the light is on.
yes methane check would be awesome. That would be better than my rule to turn on the air freshener when it finds the door closed and the light on after 5 minutes
These kinds of videos are super helpful and provide a lot of inspiration. Please do more like this!
Well done, a straightforward video that finally made me decide to install home automation.

Get the stank sensor 2000
What humidity sensor was that? I can’t find it. Thank you!
more of these types of videos please! good stuff!

Also loving the duration, it will save a lot of tricks on my previous rules
I am a visual learner so this video was amazing!!!

Great stuff, thanks!
I just edited my complex If... Then conditional rule!
Suggestions on battery powered sensor that would be suitable for this use-case, anyone? LOVE the idea of the dual sensor setup - very cool.
Note: As of Rule Machine 5.1, it looks like Wait for rule should now be used as wait for condition seems to be gone.
There's a "Wait for conditions" item, but no action linked to that wait action
They have changed it to "wait for expression" the rest of the tutorial is the same
What is the Multi-Sensor you're using for temp/humidity/motion? I didn't see it linked or called out in the video.

Still say those multi sensors need to detect methane as well.... cough.... ;)

👍 - _also_ for the YT algo! 😊
