Same. I was always just poor enough to get free meals at school, so my parents said "Eat free at school and you'll eat good when you get home." That is how my love for 7-11 pizza was born.
My mom used to pack us homemade dimsum/potstickers and noodles in a similar way but bc my classmates would give me weird looks due to the strong smell I began to refuse such foods unless she drove to school to deliver it and I could eat it in the car. I also got embarrassed carrying around giant lunchboxes whilst everyone else got lunch money or something small that fit inside their bag like sandwiches. I wish I’d learned to stop giving a crap about what others thought at a younger age bc in hindsight not everyone’s parents are willing to dedicate the time into making their kids a meal for school. I feel bad that she put so much effort into our food but we didn’t make it feel valued
I get to eat dense dry ryebread with cheap bad tasting toppings and a carrot for lunch i try to explain that it taste bad but no cuz I cant have hot food for lunch
@@rscott1724 Peanut butter and jellies are pretty healthy. Depends on the bread and jelly you use but it can be a healthy choice. Read that eating a hotdog decreases your life by forty minutes and one pb and j can get it back.
This reminds me of my mom. She made bento boxes for us until college 😅 she's not japanese but lived in Japan for a decade. Her Filipina mom made her packed lunches too. But her mom used random containers like "I can't believe it's not butter" to put her meals in 😅. Love my mom and grandma! Now my nieces and nephews get the same prepared meals.

@@moon.5424 My family is predisposed to high blood pressure and people who have high blood pressure are told to stay away from foods that contain large amounts of sodium, which these noodles have. I'll gladly opt for the peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
Just make sure your kids like it too! My mom use to put a lot of effort into my school lunch, and as an adult I appreciate it, but as a kid I hated being the one with the weird lunch box.

A lot of kids, like myself, didn’t have homemade food at home at all. It so amazing to know that not everyone had it like that. My bf grew up eating good food and I’m very thankful for that because he’s not as picky as me and he’ll eat almost anything I cook. All I had was chips and junk so these days it’s hard for me to stomach any real food, but watching other people enjoy food helps me enjoy it more!
I'm so glad I when to school in Mexico we used to had hotdogs, or burgers, pizza tacos (flautas) roman noodles (Maruchan), sandwiches. (tortas de huevo con chorizo o jamon con queso y jalapeño). And we can pick a choice of bowl of fruit (fruta con chile y chamoy) or chips (tostitos con queso deretido chile y chamoy) water or a feozen boing, soda in a bag with a straw and a candy all for $1.20 cents 😁 that was gold 😂
