today I was was wanted to sublimate on a stretched canvas from Walmart. I used my griddle to set the ink powder on the DTF film. While my griddle was still hot at 358 degrees I taped the picture to the canvas and turned it upside down on the griddle and wieghed it down for 40 secs. the results was fabulous. When it cooled I pulled off the DTF sheet and the print was perfect.
Another thing I found online about DTF powders is: It is recommended to always use proper protection, including gloves, eye protection, and the proper mask or breathing apparatus when working with DTF powders, as they can become airborne in the coating process. Businesses should not risk inhalation of the powder or extended skin exposure. Additionally, make sure that excess powder does not spread and contaminate other items during the powdering process.
I wondered about this. My cats were in my office when I was doing this and I noticed when I poured, some powder hung in the air for a second or was left on my table, which they walk on. Not taking chances after this! PPE , cats closed off from coming in & thorough clean-up! Thank you for sharing!
I coat "twice", once a few times back and forth sideways (horizontally), and once a few times up and down (vertically). This has really helped me not have any missed spots.
I tried a wash and tumble dry test of sublimation DTF on white cotton... I noticed that 30C wash inside out was absolutely fine - no issues. However a tumble dry even on a low setting left the print dry, and cracking. So I think I'll add "wash inside out with similar colours - max 30C - Hang dry only - do not tumble dry" - Would be great to see what results you get with washing and drying :)
Love love love your videos, sooo much info and way better than other videos where you do the hacks tutorials and show the results all in one video rather than stretching over 2 or 3 videos. Thank you you’re awesome!!
I am 67 years old and just found your channel. I just bought a printer, heat press and sublimation supplies. I will be adding these items to my order. My granddaughter and are going to try and start a home business. Thank you for these wonderful hacks.
This video is really irresponsible by not using any PPE. You should use some latex or nitrile gloves when touching the powder, and a dust/painters mask, and goggles. The fine particulates are dangerous when airborne, and if you breath them in, congrats, you now have plastic in your body forever. The powder also off gases when heating up. She has no fume extraction at all. Those VOCs are in the air, not safe to be breathing for long periods of time. Look up Brother Earnest if you want to know more about the dangers of dtf powder. Sadly, he is currently battling cancer that has been confirmed to be caused by years of being exposed to the dtf powder and not using safety measures. He showed his endoscope video and he had powder caked on his esophagus. Not trying to scare you, just be safe.
@@pixelbat What are you talking about? She has a silent vent system in her craft area. And as she told you the DTF powder that she is using is made for low vent areas
@@EB.80 like 99% of dtf powders being used are marketed as TPU, which just means thermoplastic urethane, it's fine in it's sold cured state. What they don't tell you is it's made from a polyester resin, which when heated up can release small amounts of styrene monomer which is not safe to breathe, especially over a long period of time. If she is using a ventilation system it won't help since you need to extract at the source, and I didn't see a fume extractor there. They literally make fume extractors specific to dtf printing now. And the powder is even more dangerous in it's airborne particle state, not gas. When you're coating your transfer and moving the powder around, some of it gets kicked up. This is why you need a dust mask. If you breathe the powder in as a particulate that is micro plastic that will never leave your body. Can choose to be ignorant, or be safe. Up to you 🤷♀️

Hi, I just jumped over from the Design Bundles youtube page. I just bought dtf powder, blanks and even a swingaway heat press. Now I need to learn how to use them! Thank you for the great tutorials!
This channel is wonderful. I stumbled onto it while searching for sublimation videos because I am going to try to restart a clothing business I had started back in 2008 but had to scrap for various reasons. Back then the sublimation printer was brand new and super expensive and I didn't know you couldn't use it on 100% cotton and I had already bought hundreds of blank cotton shirts and..... just a whole mess. But seeing all these cool hacks and what not, plus the fair pricing of materials, it all seems possible again. I love your printing tips and your energy, and I feel like you and that entire room smell like cotton candy lol. Keep up the good work!
Thank you so much. I'm so happy to hear you're getting your business going again I wish you nothing but success. happy crafting and I love the cotton candy made me lol
Hi! I am from SC. Glad that you are back, because I am so confused about DTF hacks and need more information on what printer to purchase in order to complete the DTF hack. I really want to print larger images.
Ive tried this over a dozen times and i got this to work great on light colors but with black on a cut an offset on white HTV im still getting a smug look on my designs and idk why...its soo frustration. Thank you for all your videos it does help a lot of us newbies.
You're so welcome thank you for your support. I think with the HTV thats comes along with with I to have a slight bleed or blurred edges not 100% crisp I wonder if we used another substrate print setting so it prints less ink ? I need to test this more
I really like u you are a breath of fresh air especially with the social media platform having so much crazy content on them u make my day so thank you
I just found your personal channel -- seen you on the DB channel before. You were under another video I was watching this afternoon and I wanted to see what you had for the DTF on regular printer ink. Glad to be here!! ♥
I was subscribed to you but didn't really watch. Then I saw you more on DB & fell in 💕 with your content so I'm just following you back to your channel & actually watching this time.
I tried my 1st dtf hack a few days ago on a dark cotton shirt over a white htv vinyl. I wasn’t happy with the results. The end product came out grainy. I did heat up the print after I coated it on the griddle for 60 seconds on 385 if I remember well the temp. I basically wrote down what you had used on another project (pencil). Do you have any recommendations of how to fix this issue. I will try it again on some scraps but any help would be appreciated. TIA
Yaayy Crystal ❤glad you’re back. Yes I’ve been both waiting for you to come back but I also love watching you on design bundles 😊 another amazing tutorial as always. Stay blessed love 🥰
Crystal thanks for the videos what I like about you is that your honest and straight to the point! Looking forward to more videos. Thank you for all you do.
CrystaAnn, I have watched all of your videos multiple times. I love the way you explain things. I will be following you on both pages. Thanks for all you do!!
Nope, not yet. I don’t have a sublimation printer (yet!), but I’m excited about what you said about regular inkjet ink (black). I’ll have to look into the dtf paper and the powder!
CrystalAnn Thank you for all of your videos, I tried using my Epson 2760 and the DTF Film would not pick up the film no matter the way I tried it. So what did I do but buy a sawgrass 500 printer, set it up today and printed the image and it came out beautiful!!! I am so excited to continue making my projects. Thanks again!
Thanks for the great video. I rewatched a few times but can't find if you gave a temp to use for curing on the griddle and sublimation oven. Do you have those available?
Anytime I get ink streaks on my DTF and I’m not able to cut it out I use a wet q-tip and just wipe it away with the q-tip being small I’m able to get close to the design without having to cut close to the image .
Welcome back! Thanks so much for this tutorial, lots of good information and so easy to follow. I do have one question as far as printing through Sawgrass Print Manager. Which settings should be used under the Material tab for the Substrate and Paper options? Of course depending on which Substrate you choose will give different options under the Paper. Thanks so much for all you do. Glad to see you back on your own channel!!
Thank you so much feels good to be back! For the DTF hack I use polyester for the substrate True pix classic for the paper settings and I print on vibrant
I came from Design Bundles. I WAS missing you but I didn't know where to find you until I recognized you at the Silhouette new machine announcement this week! You looked great!! I was missing your sweatshirt so it took me a while to figure out where I knew you from. Hey, I'm old...I knew I should know you BUT... 🙂
I love to watch you. Sonetine you got to fast for me,, but you explain pretty well. I need a little help. I need how to do the mirrored from my laptop when I want to print it in my inkjet printer. My laptop is an Asuss brand and my printer is a hp. Please help

Love the griddle hack. I like heating up my htv before I weed, too. I really find the tape hack hit and miss, so I tried out Staples transparency film. It works perfectly!
So for the dark shirt, adding the white vinyl means you can't layer on a color sublimation transfer? Its only for black and white designs? Why can't you print your design directly onto the white vinyl with your ink jet and then die cut it? Thanks for the video!
I bought the powder and paper but so far haven't tried it. I'm hoping it works good because I don't want to get into sublimation. I just make things for family so and they say if you don't use your sublimation printer enough it will plug up. I don't even use my cricut that often but I want to be able to make colorful designs also. Thanks for your videos.
When I mirror my image on the subpaper. I also mirror my image on the dtf transfer film. They do not match up after I weed it. I'm not sure what i'm doing wrong? The only way I can get it work is not Marine. The easy subly and then Peeling the design off the plastice and and adding it to the shirt. I hope you understand what I'm saying. Any help would be great.
I know exactly what you're talking about I have done this before. if you're talking about sublimation paper and HTV vinyl yes mirror both. as for DTF film mirror but you don't need to print on paper just the DTF film
From the Design Bundle UA-cam just found out on there you had your own channel which I am so happy about! I am from outside of Vancouver BC Canada.I grew up in Ireland. Enjoying your channel! Thank you for sharing hugs Liz x
Using the griddle hack is it necessary to have it up to 385 degrees to cure the ink or is it sufficient to watch to see if it fully changes colors at a lower temperature? I find that at 385 it burns at about 20 seconds.
I am definitely going to try the powder and the film, but the link takes me to glitter film and I can’t find the 8.5” size. What brand of film are you using in the video? The sticker covers the name. :)
Hello! I love your DTF hack videos ❤ I was wondering if you tried using white screen print ink or bleaching the black shirts first as a backdrop in place of the white htv?
what are the results of the screen print ink for the white background? Is there a video on that, or was it a fail? I've wondered about this too! @@YouCanTotallyMakeThat
I have done the DTF paper with just a strip of 1" paint tape on the glossy the full edge (back side) leading into the printer . This worked for me without having to use the paper, Also give access to the full sheet. Also using in Epson 15000. Our Sawgrass crashed.
Good morning, CrystalAnn. I Love your page! I’m having a big problem attempting the DTF Sublimation Hack. I have a converted Epson ET-7750 printer. When printing on A3 DTF film, I get ink splotches that look like train tracks down each side of the film. But when using A3 sublimation paper, I don’t get the tracks. I’m using Glossy Paper setting, thick paper On and bidirectional off. How can I solve this problem? Thank you SO much.
If you use this process directly on to a shirt (no vinyl) does it feel like sublimation or does it still have a 'hand'? Also can you use this on a dark shirt without using vinyl? Will the colours show up (red, yellow, green etc), or will they not show up similar to sublimating on a dark shirt? If you can, I would love to see this. Excellent video.
Thank you so much for the tips with DTF. I was curious about the white HTV. In the video you mentioned it was Siser Easy Subli, but the link shows white HTV from Expressions Vinyl. Could you clarify which you used. TIA!
? I did a DFT print, with an inkjet printer in purple. I spilled something on the shirt and it bled right away. When I went to wash the shirt, all the ink washed away. Was this because it did not cure? or should I have printed it with sublimation ink?
Hi CrystalAnn! I'm brand new to all of this, and I appreciate how informational and easy to follow your instructions are. Please forgive what might be a total rookie question - I totally get the benefit of using DTF on white cotton to open up the option vs only being able to use polyester. But if white HTV is still necessary under DTF for dark garments, what is the benefit of using DTF and adding the additional expense of the powder, etc over just regular sublimation ink/paper transfer?
Thank you so much. 😊 there are other options of course such as siser easy subli it's one of those can it be done type of situation say for example you use the DTF hack for cotton T-shirts but there is that one time you want to put a design on a black garment and you don't have printable HTV or Siser easy subli its just another option :) I definitely wouldn't do it for an everyday process
@@YouCanTotallyMakeThat I'm a little confused about this. Easy subli is meant to sublimate on. Why bother with the DTF powder etc if you put it on easy subli. On the tie dye shirt you said you were using HTV then said easy subli. Which was it?
Have you tried the DTF Hack?
Not yet! I'm saving up for that Sawgrass 💰💰

Thank you so much 😊 I'm so happy you found me I bet both Ireland and Canada Are beautiful ❤️ CrystalAnn
Using the griddle hack is it necessary to have it up to 385 degrees to cure the ink or is it sufficient to watch to see if it fully changes colors at a lower temperature? I find that at 385 it burns at about 20 seconds.
yes can do this at a lower temp it just takes longer I have tested this
I am definitely going to try the powder and the film, but the link takes me to glitter film and I can’t find the 8.5” size. What brand of film are you using in the video? The sticker covers the name. :)
Yes I am looking for it as well! 😢
I will update the link when I get home I’m not sure what happened ❤️ I’m camping with limited service it will be fix tomorrow ❤️
Thank you 😊.
this has been very educational. thank you, Crystal
Thank you so much Linda so happy to hear that
I was just thinking about getting a DTF printer and teying to budget for it. Going to try this instead!
Heck yes save your cash
I’ve been around but wasn’t sure if when I got in DB if ur was your original now I know what happened! 😂. Welcome back! #loveyocraft
Thank you so much! so glad your here
Hello! I love your DTF hack videos ❤ I was wondering if you tried using white screen print ink or bleaching the black shirts first as a backdrop in place of the white htv?
I have tried the screen print ink I have not tried the bleach but its coming soon
what are the results of the screen print ink for the white background? Is there a video on that, or was it a fail? I've wondered about this too!

I was just watching several of your videos yesterday so I’m happy to see this notification today
Yay!! Thank you for watching I truly appreciate it ❤️
I have done the DTF paper with just a strip of 1" paint tape on the glossy the full edge (back side) leading into the printer . This worked for me without having to use the paper, Also give access to the full sheet. Also using in Epson 15000. Our Sawgrass crashed.
That's awesome thanks for sharing I hate to hear that about your sawgrass
@@YouCanTotallyMakeThat thank you, I enjoy watching you, sharing in all you do. Great tips and tricks, saves me a lot of headaches lol
I just bought the et-15000. Is that the one you have or xp? And is it the same as sublimation that can only use on light shirts?
I love watching you DTF hacks
Thank you so much
Good morning, CrystalAnn.
From what I'm seeing is people are putting card board up against there rollers www.tiktok.com/t/ZT8rawh8d/
So glad I came across you. Great tutorial and easy to follow 😊
Thanks so much! 😊 I'm so glad you found me a well
If you use this process directly on to a shirt (no vinyl) does it feel like sublimation or does it still have a 'hand'? Also can you use this on a dark shirt without using vinyl? Will the colours show up (red, yellow, green etc), or will they not show up similar to sublimating on a dark shirt? If you can, I would love to see this. Excellent video.
it feels like a think HTV. you can not do it on dark the colors disappear 🫠 but you can do it on light colors
Crystal, will this work on any white htv ?
If you have a 9 x 9 easy press can you still use it since it is not big enough for the design and you will have to do twice. Thank you
yes you can and your welcome
Thank you so much for the tips with DTF. I was curious about the white HTV. In the video you mentioned it was Siser Easy Subli, but the link shows white HTV from Expressions Vinyl. Could you clarify which you used. TIA!
Hi! Please, can you help me? Can I use an old print or does it need to be fresh in order to apply the powder? Thank you!
It needs to be fresh while the ink is wet
? I did a DFT print, with an inkjet printer in purple. I spilled something on the shirt and it bled right away. When I went to wash the shirt, all the ink washed away. Was this because it did not cure? or should I have printed it with sublimation ink?
Love watching you. Can't wait for more content😊 your ideas, tips and tricks have been so helpful.😋❣️
So happy you find them helpful ❤️😀
Yay so happy to see you back on your channel❤️
Thank you MaryAnn ❤️
I didn’t know you had this channel. I just know you from Design Bundles. Excited to watch previous videos.
So glad you found me Kim :)
Love the video! You have explained DTF, so we can easily do this! Thank you!!
Your so welcome 🤗 happy to hear this ❤️
Hi CrystalAnn, which ink do you use in the Sawgrass? The UHD or chromablast?
I use the UHD ❤️
@@YouCanTotallyMakeThat Awesome. That's what I needed to know! Thank you so much for your heart to help!
@@YouCanTotallyMakeThat I'm a little confused about this. Easy subli is meant to sublimate on. Why bother with the DTF powder etc if you put it on easy subli. On the tie dye shirt you said you were using HTV then said easy subli. Which was it?
So I would not meet the Mayte sublimation HTV for black? Only white HTV? Thank you so much I appreciate you🎉
Yes white HTV 😀
So glad you are back.
Me to Mona :)
