- Soothing, calming, relaxing, the perfect way to relax, with the BBC interlude films of the 1950s. They speak of a different age and a simpler, gentler, less hurried way of life. They were made to fill the gaps between programmes, giving a short theatrical style interval, and time for refreshments for the family gathered around the television.
Pakenham mill (1953)
Spinning wheel (1953)
Kitten (1954)
Potter's wheel (1953)
Ploughing (1953)
Tapestry (1954)
Angel fish (1953)
River Great Ouse (1953)
Rough sea and rocks (1953)
Seascape (1955) - Розваги
Oh my goodness! My mum told me about these! She would be 88 if she was still alive.
The kitten was my favourite. Was anyone else waiting for the saucer of milk to go over? He narrowly avoided it a few times!! 😹😹
These are wonderful and very moving in a way. The music on the first interlude with the windmill is particularly haunting, as is the horse-ploughing scene. Thanks so much for sharing them here.
My birth year is 63, so this is 10 yrs before, television had just been switched back on after the war! The BBC must have realised we need a load of calm!
Didn't realise it was switched off during war
Didn't know there WAS television then!
The last one of the sea is the best. It's like an early UA-cam ambience video.
These are a walk down memory lane and a reminder of how we were once satisfied with so little - thank you. I loved them, especially the horses ploughing and then the music with the windmill in the wheatfield were so 'Cider with Rosie', perfect and lovely. Will we ever have that again?
Thankyou for these interlude films. I remember them so well. '' Into my heart a wind that kills, from yon far country blows'' A. E. Houseman.
Love the white kitten interlude.
Snowy the kitten, a favourite for generations.
Wonder if you remember Arthur Kattomeat cat? He had no teeth so ate with his paws in advert.
I am really getting to enjoy the light music that goes with these films . And there is one film here that includes my favourite Classical composer J S Bach. And I really love the playful cat . Meow.
11:05 proof that for as long as cameras have existed within the general vicinity of a cat, someone will inevitably point the camera at the cat. It's just what we do.
Cats are amazing
The lady with the spinning wheel . In the country parts of Ireland and Scotland, wool is still spun this way. Recently I got a new winter Cape from Ireland the wool was spun this way.
Way better than the test card
I’d watch the kitten larking about over ‘Love Island’ any day
The kitten reminds me of my cat Millie. All ways up to mischief. But she is a tabby cat, not white.
I have a wee JRT named Millie who is coming up 7 but still puppy - like.. These Interludes are the sort of thing that calms her...music-wise at least 😊
I love old movie and the stars too. I support you friend. Let's share. Thank you.~~^^
There had to be some J S Bach . I knew it. And The Interlude gave a stage to composers of music from the 1950s and 60s also.
I would love to be on one of these wild beaches.
Brian Johnson hated these. Except for one of Little Richard singing Tutti Frutti (which is why he became a singer later on).
Was time to go make a pot of tea x
A field being ploughed by a horse plough. It looks nice, but it was hard work. But it did not cause as much pollution as a tractor. And the horses are lovely animals. It's a look at a lost way of life.
Something slightly eerie about these though - just unfamiliar probably - you never knew what you were going to get.
It would be called mindfulness television now. Mindless tee ision has to be the so called reality shows.
Ii just about remember the interlude mum said it was 3 weeks before I was born they got a tv that was in may 54 I remember the watch with mother and I think the interlude came on when the tv closed down til about 6 no tv in the morning I think the news was on at dinner time oneoclock then watch with mother then it closed down til aboutb6 then it was the news and a few night programmes
...also, a voice from nowhere that would say 'don't forget to remove the plug from the wall' ...something like that!
@@aprilblossom9268 I know the man who comeon before the buzz said now if wany one is on the own I say good night
Amazing 😉
Bro I came back in less than an hour after sampling one of em
The one at the 25 min mark
Many of these films would be regarded as aids to mindfulness these days.
