Gotta admit total surprise. Of all the characters in the Alien universe the last one I ever expected to hear from again was Burke but it sounds like they paid attention to not contradicting canon and came up with a new spin all their own, and it could be interesting. As loathsome as he is, Burke is one of the few people with combat experience with the Xenomorphs and he just might come up with a plausible plan. Thanks for alerting me to this. I'll check it out if I can...
This video is the first time I've heard anything at all about the "what if" series Marvel is doing. I really liked the whole Burke survival scenario. 😀
I always loved on Mad About You, Ira asks Paul, "You saw Alien, right?" "Of course!" "Aliens, the second one?" "Didn't catch that one." Just a HUGE wink.
This and the Black White and Blood anthology have easily been the best things to come out of Marvel so far, especially compared to the previous lackluster/tropey arcs. While not perfect by any means, it’s a huge step in the right direction for the kind of quality content they should be releasing, writing and art wise.
AwEsOmE !!! Wasn’t exactly exciting as an “express elevator going to hell” but I think that was the entire point. The fact they did it on Burke was awesome.
Loved it. One thing though, Newt drowned. The face hugger made it's way to Ripley, impregnating her with the queen. A second face hugger survived to impregnate the dog. I know I'm a nerd.😅 Great video!❤😊
I actually do like the idea of just calling any xenomorph related incident an Incursion. But since Marvel is involved, their use of the word incursion revolves around the Multiverse
I hope with these Aliens:what if then can revisit the cancelled scripts like the wooden planet, Alien engineers (they could possibly work with Jon spaihts again turning his sequel outlines into a series) and if we’re lucky some of the extremely early drafts of Prometheus 2
In terms of Aliens IP I’m hoping they would do a What If Story for= 1= What If Burke Succeeded in Impregnating Both Ripley and Newt Unnoticed by the Marines? 2= What If the Alien in the Third Never Escaped After Being Trapped in the Led Works? 3= What If They Where Able to Train Ripley 8 in Alien Resurrections 4= What If Ripley Was Successful in Shutting Down The Self Destruction Process in Alien? Etc……. Just to name a few I’ll be looking forward to see if they make more What If Stories for The Alien Franchise in particular that ones that I have just mentioned.
My take on this scenario is that, Burke probably would've made it to the dropship and decided to go with Ripley to free Newt as an act of redemption armed with a pulse rifle and flame unit but somehow gets attacked and killed from behind by a Xenomorph as they escape the Queen. Mortally rounded, he probably tells Ripley to go on without him and sets of a grenade to further delay the advance of the Xenoqueen pursuing them to the freight elevator.
I think it's safe to say bishop placed the egg on the sulaco under Burke's orders. the eggs don't seem to react to android presence just by the David & Oram scene in covenant, so he could've easily taken an egg, the question is when did bishop receive that order?
Burke literally just sent the wildcatters out there to take photographs and geological samples (outside the derelict). They could have simply just taken the photos and sent them back to Burke, which would have provided sufficient justification for Burke to get the funding needed for a more robust expedition, using professionals who were better trained and had better equipment to enter the derelict and collect samples. I mean true he didn't warn them, but I feel like you shouldn't have to explain to a grown adult that if you encounter a weird giant crashed spaceship in the middle of nowhere, to keep a safe distance, just snap a few photos, and report your findings and not like, you know, enter the crashed alien spaceship with no idea what you're doing, no special equipment and no game plan.
0:26 - Question, if anyone knows: I never understood the implied plausibility of the timing of Ripley's rescue coinciding exactly with the Hadley's Hope disaster suddenly/immediately happening. Did WL (somehow) engineer the "chance" discovery of her adrift craft, upon realizing they might need her in action - in the aftermath of a colony tragedy, which was itself really their own petri dish situation of some kind?? (And putting the manipulative pressure on her, by revoking her license and acting like the mining payload loss was her bad?) But I just can't ever overlook the plot hole of that bizarre sore-thumb/white elephant coincidence - IF it was a plot hole!! (?) 😮 Bugs me. Haven't slept at night since 1989. SOS...
Her coming out of statis and burkes call to Hadleys Hope to do a grid position check was basically her fault. Burke sent out the coordinates to be checked. Besides obviously took them a few weeks or months to get there using faster travelling military ship. Besides Its just a movie, doesn't always have to make sense but was close enough.
@@jackm2025 Yeah, Burke might've sent them to those coordinates to trigger an encounter... Based on coordinates gleaned from Ripley, I thought? And the Marines' travel stasis + Newt's interim survival period was actually only a matter of like, a month, two tops, IIRC.
I also think it's not immediate as it seems like Ripley has at least partially settled into a new life before Burke and Gorman come calling, but yeah, as others pointed out, they didn't know LV-426 was even the planet, the coincidence is that they had a colony there already. Ripley's return and debriefing was the catalyst for things.
I kind of like this premise actually. I would've gone a slightly different route however that more in line goes with a higher possibility of happening. One where Burke escapes but somehow grabs/secures an egg...maybe the one slotted for him...and makes it back to the dropship after Bishop drops off Ripley and since Bishop is a Corporate Android, Burke initiates some type of "company override" secretly written into Bishops programming for corporate use only (like what happened before in Alien with Ash) and so Bishop (being the science officer and already studying the facehuggers) places the egg into storage in a way keeping it incubated (heck, Burke could've told him where the eggs were and Bishop secured 1 at this point with Burke). He places Hicks under with medication knocking him out through all this and then takes Burke and the egg back to the Sulaco securing them with Hicks, then returns to Colony, which is why he wasnt there and gave the excuse. I like this reasoning a lot more in the lore and am actually grateful for this premise as it helps me make Alien 3 have some type of sense...even though I still prefer it to be a nightmare and retcon'd. Then Burke couldve spent the last unknown decades fighting or preparing the company from the inside for future breach which looked like what Neil's Alien 5 was going to be doing with Ripley being a "freedom fighter" type along side Hicks.
Actually, I can put the alien basically when he put them the skate pod that was a face hugger that was attached to the queen went off of her body. The moment she was engaging combat, and and face auger head so as a paw goes down a face hugger jumped onto the pod and went into the skate pod with Ripley. That’s one way to salvage it.
I always loved when What If changed moments we knew well and flips the narrative...and I would have loved Burke to stay a sniveling, self-serving jerk who escaped as we saw here but stole the ship with Hicks and Bishop on board while Ripley is away. She goes on her rescue as we know it in the film and stands there on the deck, as we saw, blaming Bishop for "abandoning" them...but Burke took off and she and Newt are vaporized. The ship goes back and Burke has to fight the queen in a different way than the film with Bishop and the injured Hicks by his side, who Burke sacrifices to get his sample back to W-Y. Maybe Hicks gets his legs cut off by the queen and Burke saves him but puts an egg in his pod before freezing the remains. Bishop wears the power loader and he and the queen go out the airlock. Burke returns alive and W-Y is forced to believe what he tells them about how it all went, but nobody cares because they have their frozen Hicks sample. Burke is promoted and, due to field experience, runs the military weapons unit that they develop from the Xenos. He also adopts Jonesy for his kid, just for fun. That's the setup, the story would go from there as a real What If.
I have the first four issues in my collection, having googled the release dates I bought them the day they came out. These are the only marvel Aliens comics I have bought other than the Predator vs Wolverine run. Aliens What if…? in my opinion has been told really well. I am eagerly awaiting the finale.
You did make this sound interesting, and it was clever how Burke got off LV 426. It is sad to think that in Star Trek there is no cure baldness, family problems will lead to violence in Star Wars, and now kids need braces in the Alien universe.
My idea for a third alien covenant/prometheus movie is as follows: The engineers are the main characters in the movie and comes to the planet that was in the Prometheus movie. There they find Weyland inside the crashed spaceship. They have a blue elixir(which both heals and gives eternal life) which they empty all over him and bring him to life. But while doing this the Deacon from the Prometheus movie sneaks into their spaceship and hide it self in one of the ventilation chambers. In the next part they arrive at the planet from alien covenant and find the other robot(Walter) who is david's twin. The engineers use the blue elixir and repairs him. Once awaken the engineers and Weyland get to know all the horrible things that David has done, and weyland says "we have to stop David" . They set course for origae. When they arrive, they scans all the planet, and finds the planet is full of hostile organisms except on a high mountain where they discover that there are humans inside a cave. Inside the cave they meet a herd of children, who tell that when they had lived on the planet for over ten years, they began to be attacked by Xenomorphs and all the adults died or were turned into these creatures. There were also great giants developed by someone the children calls David. The engineers get ready to wipe out all the Xenomorphs that David has created, but the great giants manage to escape with one of the engineers' spaceships. The engineers and Weyland hunts the spaceship and manage to force the spaceship down on the planet lv426.Where it start sending a distress signal. The engineers return to Origae to find David, but discover that he has escaped. In the last part we see David arriving and meeting an unknown alien species on a tropical like planet. At the same time Nostromo leaves a nearby planet with the cargo of ore. But when he and the unknown aliens have left the spaceship, the deacon slips out of the ship and is seen running toward the nearest settlement. And that makes the cliffhanger that ends the third movie. The ending movie could have a duration about five hours ?
I wish we got more Audiobooks like Alien Sea Of Sorrows, River of Pain and Alien 3 The movie like full cast products are great and something like this comic would transfer over well i think
To me the greatest what-if factor brought to this comic book is that Burke was in any way a good human being. I've never felt him to be redeemable and any fashion, so of course the what if universe goes out of its way to do so :-) because it's what if, I can accept this.
"What if..." Burke took an alien queen egg from the hive to the dropship as his "bargain card" for the company? It would make sense and tide all loose ends with Alien3 😎
I know _Alien_ has crossed over with DC in the past, but if this is the first time with Marvel, then there's opportunity to explore Wolverine as both a host and a hunter. Wolverine would likely survive the gestation process, though the alien would be forced to leave either lower through the stomach or higher though the throat since it couldn't break through his adamantium skeleton. There's also the question of if any one birthed from him would inherit his healing factor, and whether or not his claws would survive the acid blood of the Xenomorphs (I'm not well-versed enough to know offhand).
I was just thinking about this earlier and how he could've escaped So he was cocooned, alive and awake, but was he actually impregnated at that point? What if the egg that opened when Ripley was facing off with the queen was actually for him, but because she destroyed it and all the eggs, he was spared The explosions may have allowed him to break free, take one of the lifts up to the platform and board the ship Bishop then flies the ship away due to the instability, Burke orders him to keep quiet about being on board, he hides, RIpley arrives on the platform and the film carries on as before.
What if... what if this is the "canon" story that goes with Alien 3? Like Alien 3 itself is a what if and not the real thing that happened after Aliens? I can only wish for that :(
Nothing. It got buried underneath a mountain of red tape again like it was after the Nostromo disaster, never to be mentioned again. Expanded Universe likes to portray W-Y as this almost demonic entity, but in primary canon - they're just opportunists. One of their ships picks up the distress signal, so to ensure they get the salvage rights on Alien tech and the Xeno, they reroute one of their commercial freighters into the area. Everything goes tits up, so they bury the whole thing never to be discovered again to cover their asses from lawsuits. And it would have remained a forgotten blunder should a random woman out of time didn't pop out of the woodwork and point a finger on the map in earshot of an ambitious corporate suit. After the Hadley's Hope snafu, an order of magnitude greater than the Nostromo one, the whole Alien business is most likely memory holed extra, EXTRA hard.
I always thought the whole giving Burke a grenade idea was so dumb. The resulting explosion could have collapsed part of Ripley's way out, blocking her in the hive in a reactor that was due to explode in just a few minutes.

Thank you Derek for another great Alien video. I always wonder what if Newts parents just called in the ship they found as their own discovery
Please do more what is. This was brilliant
I always loved on Mad About You, Ira asks Paul, "You saw Alien, right?" "Of course!" "Aliens, the second one?" "Didn't catch that one."
Just a HUGE wink.
That effect you’ve added to the movie scenes reminds me of the Predator’s viewpoint.
This and the Black White and Blood anthology have easily been the best things to come out of Marvel so far, especially compared to the previous lackluster/tropey arcs. While not perfect by any means, it’s a huge step in the right direction for the kind of quality content they should be releasing, writing and art wise.
This would be great! I would totally watch what ifs for Aliens and other movies.
i love how burke is now responsible for newt and hicks’ deaths
Have been reading it, it’s good, quite humorous and a nice addition to the lore without worrying about what’s cannon or not.
AwEsOmE !!!
Wasn’t exactly exciting as an “express elevator going to hell” but I think that was the entire point.
The fact they did it on Burke was awesome.
Love this channel!!!
Burke meeting the Queen leeds to the disturbing possibility of a Xenomorph-Exec-Hybrid.
Effin’ each other over for a GD percentage.
Loved it. One thing though, Newt drowned. The face hugger made it's way to Ripley, impregnating her with the queen. A second face hugger survived to impregnate the dog. I know I'm a nerd.😅 Great video!❤😊
Very interesting doing a Burke survives What if...
Might wait for the omnibus edition of this story to buy it.
I'm guessing it doesn't involve establishing a platinum line of credit, or writing a check as fast as humanly possible.
they should do a story of what if Newt, Hicks, and Ripley where together, taking down the aliens
Great channel, thanks
Great content thanks!
Should just recon Alien 3 and gives us the Alien 3 we all want and deserve. Since the original director couldn't even make the film he wanted for A3.
Man the Alien 3 we want is one that doesn't exist
They should do one where Hicks and Newt survive the crash onto Fury 161.
Yes ❤️💗🙏🏾
Thanks for the video!! See you later!! Stay safe.😊
Do more Alien comic stuff please! It's my favorite content you make. 🙏
Agreed!
Its actually a decent little non canon story. I'd like to see them do more in this style with other characters.
This is really good, holding just right to the timeline and events. We have seen many much worse than that.
Really need a What if of Hudson and Ripley surviving the E.E.V. on Fury. Can you imagine the banter between Hudson and the inmates?
First comment, love your work man, August is nearly here :)
Just a Marvel nerd note.......
What If #1 first came out in late November 1976, cover dated Feb 1977.
Good video.
That's a cool story. Once I had one for Hudson. He could survive too.
Very cool
In terms of Aliens IP I’m hoping they would do a What If Story for=
1= What If Burke Succeeded in Impregnating Both Ripley and Newt Unnoticed by the Marines?
2= What If the Alien in the Third Never Escaped After Being Trapped in the Led Works?
3= What If They Where Able to Train Ripley 8 in Alien Resurrections
4= What If Ripley Was Successful in Shutting Down The Self Destruction Process in Alien? Etc……. Just to name a few I’ll be looking forward to see if they make more What If Stories for The Alien Franchise in particular that ones that I have just mentioned.
Great vid as always, good idea for a what if.
They need to make this movie. I need this
I think it's safe to say bishop placed the egg on the sulaco under Burke's orders. the eggs don't seem to react to android presence just by the David & Oram scene in covenant, so he could've easily taken an egg, the question is when did bishop receive that order?
This is awesome!
(And putting the manipulative pressure on her, by revoking her license and acting like the mining payload loss was her bad?)
But I just can't ever overlook the plot hole of that bizarre sore-thumb/white elephant coincidence - IF it was a plot hole!! (?) 😮
Bugs me.
@@jackm2025
Yeah, Burke might've sent them to those coordinates to trigger an encounter...
Can't wait to hear your take on the new content out there ?
I have the first four issues in my collection, having googled the release dates I bought them the day they came out. These are the only marvel Aliens comics I have bought other than the Predator vs Wolverine run. Aliens What if…? in my opinion has been told really well. I am eagerly awaiting the finale.
You did make this sound interesting, and it was clever how Burke got off LV 426. It is sad to think that in Star Trek there is no cure baldness, family problems will lead to violence in Star Wars, and now kids need braces in the Alien universe.
I can imagine Uatu taking a break from the Marvel Universe, and going to this one for some inspiration.
My idea for a third alien covenant/prometheus movie is as follows:
The engineers are the main characters in the movie and comes to the planet that was in the Prometheus movie.
When they arrive, they scans all the planet, and finds the planet is full of hostile organisms except
on a high mountain where they discover that there are humans inside a cave.
Inside the cave they meet a herd of children, who tell that when they had lived on the planet for over ten years,
they began to be attacked by Xenomorphs and all the adults died or were turned into these creatures.
In the last part we see David arriving and meeting an unknown alien species
on a tropical like planet.
I wish we got more Audiobooks like Alien Sea Of Sorrows, River of Pain and Alien 3
The movie like full cast products are great and something like this comic would transfer over well i think
Still feel Alien 3 was a bit of a missed opportunity given in the end credits of aliens you could hear a facehugger
I might check this one out
Please do. You will never be the same person again. You'll love everything Alien.
@badgerden7080 I already do i'm a hard core Aliens fan i even rock Weyland-Yutani hats & shirts 😂
To me the greatest what-if factor brought to this comic book is that Burke was in any way a good human being. I've never felt him to be redeemable and any fashion, so of course the what if universe goes out of its way to do so :-) because it's what if, I can accept this.
Alien 3 is a shitshow as is any movie afterwards. The entire Alien timeline is impossible to deal with because of it
"What if..." Burke took an alien queen egg from the hive to the dropship as his "bargain card" for the company?
I was just thinking about this earlier and how he could've escaped
So he was cocooned, alive and awake, but was he actually impregnated at that point?
What if the egg that opened when Ripley was facing off with the queen was actually for him, but because she destroyed it and all the eggs, he was spared
The explosions may have allowed him to break free, take one of the lifts up to the platform and board the ship
Bishop then flies the ship away due to the instability, Burke orders him to keep quiet about being on board, he hides, RIpley arrives on the platform and the film carries on as before.
What if... what if this is the "canon" story that goes with Alien 3? Like Alien 3 itself is a what if and not the real thing that happened after Aliens?
I can only wish for that :(
What happened to the Derelict - it was far away from Hadley's Hope - surely it wasn't destroyed.
I don’t know who’s worse… us or them!? I don’t see them screwing each other over for a dental plan!
I always thought the whole giving Burke a grenade idea was so dumb. The resulting explosion could have collapsed part of Ripley's way out, blocking her in the hive in a reactor that was due to explode in just a few minutes.
