The Lamborghini 400GT Is The Only Car Jack’s Ever Needed

  • “The production line was really weird back then, I mean, they had wine for lunch… Hopefully you got a car that was built with everybody, before lunch, you know?” quips Jack Riddell, owner of this 1967 Lamborghini 400 GT.
    Thing is, Jack’s car may have been built on a day when the all the stars in the universe aligned to produce the best-built 400 GT: his car has nearly 300,000 miles on the clock, easily one of the world’s highest totals for a Lamborghini.
    He bought the car in 1972, after simultaneously saving up and talking its owner down to $6,250. It’s been a rewarding experience ever since.
    The car’s rarity at less than 250 made and Jack’s technical skills allowed him to maintain and improve the car through the years, and he’s become a trusted resource among fellow Lamborghini aficionados.
    One interesting update to Jack’s car is his custom-built ignition system. He modified a Jaguar distributor and added an MSD unit, eliminating the need for constant tune-ups.
    “Which is good, because I like to drive it,” he says. “You can cruise at 140 mph all day if you could do it legally, but you can’t, unfortunately…”

    268,000 miles on a Lamborghini. Awesome. And people think 30,000 miles on a modern Ferrari/Lambo is high. All cars are meant to be driven. just maintain it and it will last forever.

    • @ryanolson6794
      @ryanolson6794 8 років тому +18

      Yes sir, all you have to do is maintain it.

    • @Makedeth
      @Makedeth 8 років тому +15

      +D Mc Of course, but maintaining a lambo or ferrari is very, very expensive :D Then again, someone who can afford one can afford to maintain them too.

    • @MD-uu5nt
      @MD-uu5nt 8 років тому +15

      +Makedeth exactly but running a car for 5000 miles a year vs 200 miles doesn't really cost much more. if anything it's cheaper as cars don't respond well to sitting around unused. Sure something could break but age breaks stuff just as quickly as wear does so you might as well enjoy the beast.

    • @tankredzr
      @tankredzr 8 років тому +2

      You cant compare 268k miles on a normal car with 268k miles on a supersport or performance car. Especially the modern ferrari and lamborghini engines rev way higher. They wear out 2 to 4 times faster. Thats the uncommon thing about the 268k miles. Not the owners who put them into a garage and dont drive them.

      +D Mc There's a guy in the UK has a Murcielago which has 258,000 miles on it, mostly hard-driven track miles (he runs a trackday experience company). Sadly, it was crashed heavily in 2013, but it's on SORN so I presume it's being rebuilt.

    The 400 GT is the first Lamborghini I ever saw....and like a beautiful woman, you never forget...the story goes like this....It's summertime, 1969... I'm a 15 year old kid, living in Costa Mesa, Ca....I worked at McDonalds on 19th street..and lived on the other side of town by South Coast plaza, so I rode my bike to work. One night I got off at 9:00 pm and started my ride home...going down Harbor Blvd. there were several small independent car dealerships...today we call them "sled lots"...anyway...I see this beautiful metallic baby blue Lamborghini sitting on the point with a price tag of $7,000...I stopped and spent about 20 minutes just looking, staring, looking some more...I never forgot that car and the 400 GT is still one of my all time favorite automobiles....bar none..

      I understand what you are saying but time and time again I see people with perfectly running cars and they park the it and don't drive it anymore. Then the neglect turns into nothing but mechanical nightmares most times sitting under a car cover. Machines need to be used and the heat they create is a good thing to keep things free and flowing. Check out my youtube channel, I know how to fix cars ;-) I'm a car nut! Take it easy

    What a likeable guy, and a very nice car. Agree, old cars need to be driven. Standing unused for a bare few months will wreak havoc, seals dry up (oil leaks everywhere), moisture will creep into the carb and distributor, brakes seize-up (at least here in Norway), the best way to keep them running, is to run them.

    As an Italian and car enthusiast I discovered this car when Jack brought it to Jay Leno. For many Lambo fans the first Lambo is the Miura but it's sad that very few people know the 400 GT. You can buy it for much cheaper than a classic 60ies Ferrari and it is truly beatiful and most importantly extremely reliable. I had the chance to drive it and I must admit that it is very fun with a pure v12 exhaust note and a great comfort.
