Classic father/son car story, the kind Petrolicious does best. Anyone who has worked on a project with a family member or close friend knows how the journey or process of the project is often the most rewarding part. Many of us can also relate to the same feeling seen here of that first time you turn the key on a completed restoration or long project and drive it out of the garage. It's at that exact moment you realize that all of your dreams, ideas and hard work have come to fruition and that's what keeps so many of us enthusiastic about cars. The only time that emotion gets better is when its shared with a father, mother, son, daughter, best friend, etc. (And the fact they used one of the greatest sports cars ever made makes this a truly special story for me.) Petrolicious at its absolute best this morning.
Your words are so true and very touching, Monsieur Eric. I yearn the days when my late father tought me the proper use of tools, the reasons of this or that procedure, the importance of proper sequence use of a torque wrench, etc. I'm now 65, sadly with no children. My Dad died 30 years ago but I still think about him when repairing something - How would you do it, Dad ? Sweet, endearing memories. Thank you Petrolicious.
Marc René Yvon I too learned everything from my father. I think the reason this story resonated so much for me is because my father is quite ill and doesn't have much time left. Since I'm 43 and never had children I've been thinking often lately about how much my father taught me and I'll have no one to pass down those lessons. The thing I also found so amazing about this story is the first projects my dad and I ever worked on were a Volkswagen Beetle and then a 1963 356C. (my dad made me practice on the VW before we started the 356.) Although I was 15 at the time I understood how the days spent in the shop and the lessons I learned there were more important than the car itself. Even though I still own that car today, and few people even know that I do, as special as it is I don't really look at it as a Porsche. I look at it as a continuing reminder of how to work hard, take time to do things correctly and enjoy the journey. When you think about the relationship between Dr. Porsche and his sons, what better car to do it in.
Marc René Yvon My father is 82 years old. Back in the late 70's, we worked together on a 1948 VW Beetle back in Cuba and He tought me how to work with tools (and repair them to be able to work!) Tools from the 40's & 50's! Back then, we didn't have anything in Cuba and we had to pretty much restore everything. We spent countless hours, weekends and afternoons trying to fix, recondition, repair and maintain everything around us. From an old GE fan, to my old Niagra bicycle. I had a dream to build my own Harley, so when I was 15 he brought me a 1947 Flat Head in parts and boxes. He had paid almost his entire savings! It took me one full year to rebuild that monster and we did it together. That's a love story. Today, one of the kids is 9 years old and, I have the feeling he will follow his grandpa and myself. He can figure how to fix anything. Our hobby is fixing and restore things at our own back yard in Florida.
"He had paid almost his entire savings! It took me one full year to rebuild that monster and we did it together." Wow, that is *love*! You're very blessed. Not all of us have had such a privilege.
I will never forget the year I bought my 1959 356 Cabriolet. I was 18 years old, and it couldn't have been a better point in my life to experience the magic of Porsche. Happy memories. :)
You know, you guys are really knocking it out of the park with these films that you produce. So well done. You show the passion collectors have for their hobby and the close bond between man and machine as well as family and friends. Thank you.
The 356 is one of my dream cars. So graceful, it looks competent and purposeful standing still. On the road it looks like art. I could have had a good 356A in the mid-90s for ten grand, passed it up. C'est une magnifique voiture.
I used to not really like green and now I want multiple green cars. My dad has an SC and I wish it was the dark metallic green Porsche has, I saw it on the 930 in the museum. I love this lighter seafoam green though. I have a 240Z and I've seen some nice greens on those as well, I love my orange car though.
@@michaelmeliambro5117 Yeah ! I still own my - less loved Pontiac ever - mint 1988 Fiero GT. I drive it less and less due to severe lower back problems (age) but I cannot convince myself to sell it. 😫
Another wonderful story, well told and beautifully filmed. I miss working on projects with my dad, but have great memories of doing so. How nice that Magnus Walker signed the glove box!
I didnt see that......not sure Id want MW's name on that car if it was mine.......lol.....jus sayin I do love this vid.......great car. What watch did the son have on?..........fantastic interior
Great job Petrolicious. The story is just as well executed as the restoration. Nicholas, you and your Father have done a wonderful job, I love the color choices (outside as well as inside.) It's a beautiful car, well done, thank you so much for sharing it with us!
Thumbs-Up #2.5K-plus I am, Thursday evening 21 June 2018. Some cars are timeless in all aspects. Priceless too. Surpassed by none. You and your father are a credit to France. You bring glory to the explanation “we are French”. Your Porsche is wonderful!
Vraiment une très, très belle histoire entre un père et son fils pour cette fabuleuse Porsche 356. Bravo à vous deux, je vous souhaite beaucoup de bonheur à son volant.
Beautiful to look at and admire... when driving one of these, you must forgive the quirks and whatnot associated with exceptional marques of the 50’s and early 60’s. Good video. Thanks for sharing, Petrolicious.
I don’t understand what they are saying but this 356 is a beaut !!! That engine sounds my old 914 with dual 44 carbs ...even if it was a VW Porsche ...my Porsche boxter S is so much fun I can see why this 2 are bonding through this car ...greetings from California
nothing is more rewarding than having a good relationship with your father and sharing the same passion..

At times like this I miss my old man more.
It happens to me exactly the same. My father was an engineer and my grandfather was a mechanic , and I miss them very often.
sugirosie so do I brethren
I know what you mean. My old man loved cars and made me love cars as well.
Except in cases when your old man makes poor life decisions.....

what a great time sharing it with your Father,

A superb story about the relationship between father and son as much as for their love of a classic automobile. Petrolicious rocks!
An amazing story from amazing storytellers
The love for automobiles knows no language or age! Phenomenal story!
The interior looks incredible.
Love this UA-cam channel. The cars, the personal stories tied in with these unique cars, and also the storytelling, cinematography is excellent.
The color they went with is perfect.
Great story.
And the interior, too.
It is Ming Green, pre '62 bathroom & toilet color.

That is what old cars are talking about yesterday - beautiful vid and a sentimental story about father and son
Man, this makes me want to do a father and son project cars with my dad.
Please, do it. You will cherish those moments all your life.
