    this is beautiful.. We built our in 2014. I have a 700 gallon koi and my husband has a 5000 gallon koi pond. we live in texas and you know how the heat and sun is here. we run our UV most all year and shut it down in the winter. great job and I love the landscaping...

    Nice pond, have the same design in mind but 4 ft deep, in a screened in pool area. I have lots of stray cats and nocturnal animals around, hence the reason for enclosed pool area. Also lots of snakes

    Great informative video. thank you for the time and effort and all the great information.
    I love that your system is so simple. The pond I am building is very similar in size and design as yours, I have the floor poured and block walls built. Still looking into a filtering system...so much info on the market...its a bit confusing...
    Could you tell me a little bit more about your filter system?
    For waterproofing the pond I was going to use mortar dyed with black-the same process as a black-bottom pool. thkx again
    ps...Love how the wood fencing weathered and aged.

    great pond. simple and beautiful. try using water hyacinths in your filter, helps a lot with filtration.

      Sunil Maharaj If you look early on in the video you'll see we had them in the filter, but after several months the roots began to grow into our filter media so we removed them.

    If you use the peroxide just spray it on and heat and sun will make muck turn white and it will float into the pond to be picked up by the filter when you turn the water on .I also made video's of my pond but mine has a liner

      I used a Canon 7D dslr. I try and avoid a cell phone I like having nice photos to look back on in the future. We get so used to using a cell phone and end up with what we think are good pics but they really are only pics...

    Very nice pond. Which brand of rubber coating did you apply?

    • @techtiptricks
      @techtiptricks  8 років тому

      +Ziggy S Initially I used ruberize it... after a while it began to bubble and lift, we pressure washed it all off after about 3 months. It now has a natural alage coating which is better than a sealer. Mortar is water proof anyway so no leaking.

    • @techtiptricks
      @techtiptricks  8 років тому

      All sealing /water proofing was done with Typical Mortar mix like you would use to lay concrete blocks or bricks found in homes. Mortar mix is water proof once it's thickness is greater than 1/4 inch

    What do u feed them and how often

    • @techtiptricks
      @techtiptricks  9 років тому +1

      cristina ibarra Typical round floating pellets. We get a 50 lb bag from a farmers type store here in Florida for $13.00 the food is typically what fish farmers feed catfish when raising them for market.

    Can I turn on UV clarifier forever?
    Is it good for the fish or bad?

    • @techtiptricks
      @techtiptricks  7 років тому +2

      You can but it only wears down the effectiveness of the bulb. The light only kills algae and bacteria in the water, it does nothing to the water itself.

    how deep did you say 2 foot?

    • @techtiptricks
      @techtiptricks  9 років тому

      Ray Andrew Ya 2 ft, we went that depth because we really want to be able to see the fish up close and didn't need a building permit if we kept it at 2ft

    What is your Pond Pump?

    • @techtiptricks
      @techtiptricks  9 років тому +2

      Joel Patrick Sarmiento Its an evolution series, about a 300.00 pump.. Cheap as far as pumps go. 1.8 amps and a flow rate of 4500 gallons per hour there cheap pumps, but if you get one that lasts 5 years you got a great deal. coming up on 4.5 years on this pump, so far so good. No maintenance at all.

      I have a small pond and we are about to build a bigger pond as the Koi. Anyhow, I am looking for best pond pump with low energy consumption. Also I might go with Airlift pump along paired with power pump just like your setup.

    use peroxide because barley breaks down into peroxide and not as dangerous as bleach for the fish .
