You began listening to her from a very interesting place! I feel like most of her fans knew at least one album before listening to this one- which is very different- so were suprised at this album. You're gonna have suprises with.. the whole rest, hahaha. Curious to see what you think Personal bit.. I wasn't sure of many songs at the start when the album came out, but I had a ticket for her concert bought already before that- I decided that if I like LITERALLY ALL HER STUFF then I'm not gonna overthink if I'm gonna like a tour of a new album. And sure enough, the songs grew on me, I just had to get comfy with the new suprises. Almost full on cried at the concert, and then a month after the concert listened through the whole album a few times in a real low period and felt like the songs were tailor made for my situation. Echo of my shadow is definitely a song of encouraging me to go on and remembering that the bad will pass. I keep it in the methaphorical pocket along with other songs dear to me. Unsure if you do suggestions from comments, but I am curious, if you said you like something out of most genres, what you'd think of CLANN (album of choice is Kin Fables, but i love both of their (his?) albums). It is mainly instrumental, and I believe there are short movie like clips to go with the music unfolding a story. It is themed around fairies, but in a dark way. It puts me in this weird kind of 'dark calm' as I can only describe it, and I listen to it exclusively on winter after the dark sets in, it feels appropriate.

I don’t usually listen to this genre of music. It’s not my typical flow. But I stumbled upon her last year and I gotta say this whole album is pure art. Sun Bleached Flies & House in Nebraska are so so deep and beautiful

and it really is a political album and its such a coincidence that you got to it right now you know like the TIMING... like things in the world are really coming back to the point where it was when she did this album and its just sad but also glad we have this piece of art "in these dark times", like she said in the lfl album trailer

the fact she only did in my feelings ONCE and another time in a fucking karaoke bar i hate her so much----

the cherry perfomances during this era were something else... "cause what can you do, darling?" chills

I was in that concert in Brazil. It was AMAZING! At one moment she just stoped continuing the playlist and kept as asking the audience what song we wanted her to sing next... it was unbelibable. Best concert of my life! So glad you reacted to get free. Greetings from Brazil!

I loved watching your reactions throughout this album. This is the most personal writing she has ever done and we finally got to know more details about her relationship with her father that she has hinted at over the years. The main theme of the album is that she thought this was the last album she would be able to make, so she wanted to do and say everything that she had been holding back. She has been performing for about 10 years, so that is where the "decades" theme came from. She wondered what kind of music she would have made if she grew up in the 70's, 80's, 90's, or 2000's. Each song on the album is inspired by an artist or historical figure and is styled after them. she also released a side by side picture of herself and the inspiration on instagram for each song prior to the album release. It is amazing how she transformed herself into looking like the inspiration. The Letters to God were titled 1974, 1983, 1998 because the song was styled after a song released that year by the respective song inspiration. I hope that helps explain a bit about the album. I highly recommend listening to Halsey's entire catalog starting with the EP "Room 93" and moving forward chronlogically. However, you could also work your way backwards too.

the story goes basically ethel met isaiah in thoroughfare and fell in love. but ethel is an unreliable narrator and sees the world as falling in love with isaiah but in fact, he actually kidnapped her. she is then sold to guys by isaiah in gibson girl. isaiah then drugs ethel, kills her and cannibalizes her in ptolomaea. august underground is her processing her death. televangelism is her accepting her fate. sun bleached flies is about her reflecting on her life, family and willoughby (they were together before the scenes of the albums but he left in a house in nebraska). and strangers is ethel saying goodbye to her mom from her grave.
