Thank you for the great video series. Subscribed. Could you please tell me -- what is that water "bag" you have @3:18, and how much time would you suggest "budgeting" to purifying water on a daily basis? Say I want to get 2 liters of drinkable water. Thanks again this is great stuff.
Safety. The structure isn’t built for it and they don’t want anyone getting hurt. There’s also nothing on the inside to lash too and they don’t want folks adding hardware. There’s been a few hammock accidents on the island already. The island is just remote enough that it’s just better to be safe about it. Search and rescue can take hours or days.
Wow, talk about timing! I'm taking my son on a 5-6 Day Backpacking trip on IR for his Sr. trip. I have BP experience as does he and we have the equipment, just not the experience with IR. Your IR series and prior trip reports are an awesome resource. We are going in early June (1st or 2nd Week), do you know how the bugs and crowds (or lack there of) are? A suggestion for future videos would be for route options to do a loop from Rock Harbor. As a fellow MI backpacker I look forward to your videos!
Tom, thank you for the kind comment. Glad you are finding the videos useful. Sounds like your son has an awesome trip coming up! Middle of June -early August are probably the busiest times in the park. But even the busiest time won’t be THAT crowded on the island. Sounds like you will be there a little before most people. As far as bugs it will be weather dependent. Early June could still be pretty cool up there. So you may miss them all together but if we have an early spring you might hit the brunt of them. Come prepared for bugs for sure. We are considering a routes video but there are ENDLESS ways to explore the island. Haha. Maybe we may show how we chose our routes. Thank you for the suggestion and please let us know if you have any more suggestions or questions. Happy to help.
I disagree with the saw comment. Fires are not allowed in every campground (see the greenstone chart to know which ones) and they only want you to burn dead and down wood. They also ask that you stick to wood you can break by hand. Fires are not necessary most of the time. Without the rules we wouldn't have the pristine wilderness to hike in like Isle Royale. Thank you for watching but we want to make sure our viewers know the actual rules of the park.
@@HusbandWifeOutdoorLife Bring a saw! Good luck with twigs. Hand saw a dead tree. Also remember it's government run. Lot's of book idiots who don't know the outdoors.
I’ve spent quite a few days on the island. Never felt the need for one. Also every ranger I’ve come into contact on that island has had a ton of outdoor experience. I like fires as much as the next guy/gal but I never felt the need to cut any trees down (dead or not) on the island.
Thank you!! From St. Clair Shores, Michigan. Boda-BING!!
No prob!

Thanks !! It’s a sea to summit collapsible bucket. Time spent maybe 10 minutes or less for two liters (including gathering it).
Good info! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching glad it was useful!!
Why don't they allow you to hang hammocks in the shelters?

Nice video, those moose are just peaceful!
Yes, I loved watching them! We got quite a show on that trip and saw so many moose!
Moose are mean as hell
I set my tent up in the shelter then I have an insulated master bedroom for those warm 45 deg. July nights.
Minong Maniac our tent is non freestanding. So we opted to hang our tarp as a windbreak in the shelters and it was awesome.
I loved staying at Todd Harbor on the Minong. There were only a handful of other people there and the view of the sunset was great!
darkgaia181 yes! Todd harbor is awesome. I spent my birthday there on our last trip. Amazing sunset !!
More Moose.....More Moose....thanks for the awesome scenery and info. Looking forward to your escapades this season. ATB Mike
Hiking videos coming soon! I promise.

Any bear up there?
Phillips Mom good question! There are no bears on the island but plenty of other wildlife, including moose, wolves, loons, and many more.

Bring a saw! Can drink superior water, lots of rules are because of idiots! Make a fire, be smart and cautious without camp sites. Clean up!
