This was a movie that defined my childhood. It’s the first film I remember seeing in the theatre and SIX TIMES including with friends and family. And that’s not even counting the number of times on VHS and DVD and the times I read the book/listened to the audiobook. It’s still my favorite potter film.
I find it ironic that sending messages by birds was already a thing with Muggles, but while Muggles used pigeons which are fast flyers, Wizards inexplicably use one of the slowest flying birds for their mail.
Out of this entire movie having separate Houses within the same school is the most realistic part for me. Back in the early 90's I went to a school that no longer exists (Fredrick Douglass MS) and we had color coded houses, on the second floor was Blue House and Red House and the Third Floor was Green House and Gold House (I was Gold House).
Regarding the house cup, in the books it was made clear the other teachers were straightforward in awarding and taking away House points, but not Snape. McGonagall was the Head of Gryffindor but was harsh to her own students when taking away points. But Snape, as the head of Slytherin, would take away points for things like Hermione knowing all the answers or for students breathing too loud. Of course, Slytherin would have a huge lead.
Glad to see Rana's love for HP rival my own! I also grew up with these movies, and when I started to notice them omitting things from the books, I was really upset. Its hard to take such dense material and have to condense it into a 2.5hr movie, that's why I am looking forward to the new series. With them having multiple seasons, it will give them the leeway to tell the entire story, bits and balls. LOVE these reactions, KEEP EM COMING! !
Aside from the very irritating beginning and end, the reaction was hugely entertaining - I kinda assumed Pat and Spidey would be more sarkey and dismissive, but they gave it a good shot and got invested, and the dynamic was so fun to watch.
23:06 Random Trivia~! iirc, in this scene Rupert (Ron) was actually smacked in the face by the broom, and the line “Oh, shut up , Harry” was Rupert’s improv in response to Daniel (Harry) giggling, which they decided to keep for the film. :)
I was literally just at the Warner Brothers Studio Tour London this weekend just gone and I know you guys would love seeing the actual sets! Its also devastating to realise so many of the cast have passed away now as well 😭
Looking back on it now, it's crazy to think that when Snape said: "People would think you're up to something." and looked at Harry with that frowning look, he did Occlumency on Harry and saw what Harry knew about the Stone and that Harry thinks it's him, Snape, trying to steal it, while Snape is secretly stopping Quirrel because Dumbledore already knew what was up and set it up like a test for Harry. This ish is wild 😭😭
Pat identifying as a Slytherin with no real knowledge of the houses and what they stand for is such a Slytherin thing to do. Pat, you are definitely Slytherin. So to give the boys some context on the differences between the houses and why people identify themselves with a particular house... each House represents different principals and the students within that house tend to have certain personality traits. Gryffindor - Gryffindors are the most popular house - which, of course they are. Not only are our main set of characters in that house, Gryffindor stands for courage, honor, and chivalry - all great qualities to have.... usually. Gryffindors are basically the popular group. They are the jocks, leaders, and champions. They tend to fill roles in government and law enforcement - and indeed, would also be beat-cops and the ones on the front lines. Where Slytherins are sneaky, Gryffindors are right in your path. Where Ravenclaws are more mindfully focused on study or art and what new things they can learn or create, Gryffindors are present and grounded. Where Hufflepuffs are unassuming, pacifistic, and keep to the background, Gryffindors are bold and brass and loud. They are the heroes and saviors - but they can also be arrogant and overly prideful. Hufflepuff - Hufflepuffs are not the most disliked - they merely are the most unassuming so people assume that they are the pathetic house. They don't get attention because they don't crave attention. Hufflepuffs are the backbones of the wizarding world - or at least, the European division. They are imo, the best house. They are the ride-or-dies. They are loyal, hard-working, caring, and modest. They achieve great things but unlike the other houses - they don't constantly boast those achievements. They are the healers (nurses and doctors, basically), teachers, herbologists, mediators, veterinarians, and fill other roles where they can do the greater good - but behind the scenes. They value hard work, friendship, family, and peace - but are not above becoming a soldier if its necessary. They probably stay out of politics but I imagine they would fill the equivalent role of a beat-cop in wizarding law enforcement. They would def be the ones to deescalate the situation to avoid bloodshed while the others would shoot first and ask questions later. Ravenclaw - There are two types of Ravenclaws, imo... the brainiacs and the artists. They are the scientists, historians, teachers, reporters, and likely fill analytical and communications roles in politics and law enforcement. They value intelligence and creativity. Slytherin - While dark wizards are proportionally more Slytherin than the other houses, not every Slytherin is evil. Slytherins tend to be a mix of ambitious, selfish, and cunning - for some, this does develop into a charming and manipulative personality but others find a way to use that drive for the greater good. Slytherins often grow up to be the politicians, teachers, lawyers, and like Severus, spies and whatever they would call an undercover cop. Many Slytherins come from rich, affluent, and "pure" families where they are raised to go bad and continue the evil their families commit but some do manage to break away from that.
So fun fact, the Sorcerer's Stone is actually the Philosopher's Stone like in Fullmetal Alchemist. The legendary alchemical stone said to turn lead into gold. They changed the name in western releases because they didn't think western children would be interested in the "philosopher's" anything. Or something like that.
Bertie Botts Every Flavor Beans are real, and they have some *truly* disgusting flavors. In my Harry Potter obsessed youth at the library I had the misfortune of eating a rotten egg one, and it legitimately made me puke in my moms brand new SUV. Some other bangers are earwax, grass, dirt, old pizza, tissue paper, soap, vomit, the most infamous being EARTHWORM. *ABSOLUTELY DO A TASTE TEST.*
I am always amazed re-watching this, after watching Queens Gambit, because the actor who played Dudley (Harry Melling) plays a major role (Harry Beltik) and is unrecognizable.
Fun fact me and all my siblings took the sorting hat test and every single one of us is a Slytherin. Then my Gf took it thinking she would get Slytherin also she's a Hufflepuff LMAO.
"This can't be real," lol - I love that! When I was a kid, my dad used to watch Star Trek and he would always say: "Well, THAT's not very realistic" - and I would find myself pointing out that he was watching a show with made up creatures travelling through space (and, sometimes, time itself). We lose ourselves so completely in stories that sometimes we forget it's a story and that's the fun of it!!! Very cool reaction!
Hogwarts is modeled after the University of Oxford. Oxford is divided into colleges with on campus accommodation for the students. That's what the "houses" are supposed to be modeled after. When you're admitted to Oxford, the admissions office has to find you a seat at one of the colleges, and so you don't get a choice in which college you belong to. The colleges are the ones that have all the facilities for you, like dining halls, common rooms, college-exclusive libraries, academic support, administration, ... etc.
Funnily enough, this movie has two versions, the standard English version and the American version. The English version has the word "Philosopher's stone", while the American publishers thought the term philosopher would scare the American kids from reading it. So, they rerecorded all scenes where the stone was mentioned, and they are only shown in the American version.
Yeah, in the books, Fang was a Great Dane (though they used the other term for Great Danes, which is "boar hound"), but the dog in the movies is actually a Neapolitan Mastiff.
People getting mad at the movies and games because of the author is so fucking stupid. Some people bought the game and refuse to play it. People are so stupid these days.
The food if actually made and placed on identical tables in the kitchens below the great hall and then magically transported. Gamps law of elemental transfiguration states you cannot make food from nothing.

With the Harry Potter series, I was hooked when they said "You're the boy who lived." I of course knew the story was famous and there were wizards and that Harry was the chosen one character. But for 12 year old me, the idea of being famous for surviving murdering psychopath was both heartwarming and inherently disturbing. It would be like being famous because you were the sole person to escape a notorious serial killer or survive a terrorist attack. All I knew was that even as a kid I looked at that and said "Ok, that's different and intriguing." What I've come to realize now after analyzing the whole series, that's actually a major reason why Harry is probably one of the best Chosen One stories. There is nothing special about him. He is a normal kid that by sheer luck survived a horrific tragedy, and everyone expects him to be amazing as a result. But he's not. The only thing that makes Harry special is how good of a person he is; with the home life he had, it's a miracle he had any shred of decency in him, with his first action on the Hogwarts Express being to share his candy with a kid he befriended. Harry is bound to become the Chosen One because of who he is as a person, a hero. That is such a rare move to take with these stories. Usually the chosen one has a special power, or a special bloodline, or whatever that makes them the hero of the story. But Harry's the hero by his own morals that require him to act when things are set in motion. I've explained this better in the past, but that's the gist of it. I love how Harry's greatest strength is how much of a good, courageous, and strong person he is
25:40.... One of my favorite scenes. CERBERUS...... The giant 3 headed dog from Greek mythology, guarding the gateway to the underworld world. The ultimate guard dog....

1:20 - Ayy.. I was also one of the lucky ones that got to see the movie early before it hit theaters. A buddy of mine actually won 4 tickets through some sweepstakes to watch Harry Potter & the Sorcerers Stone in a private showing before it premiered in theaters officially a few days later. I almost didn't get a ticket because before this I hadn't even heard of Harry Potter, but I got lucky & happened to have been staying at his house for that particular weekend & was actually supposed go home when they left for the theater, but as it turns out the friend that was supposed to get the ticket got himself grounded last minute & the ticket became mine. So basically I became a Harry Potter fan on November 11th, 2001. lmao
Harry Potter’s wand is made of holly wood and has a core of a phoenix feather, which also comes from Fawkes. Hermione Granger’s wand is made of vine wood and has a core of dragon heartstring. Ron Weasley’s second wand is made of willow wood and has a core of unicorn tail hair because his first wand cannot work properly well. Lord Voldemort’s wand is made of yew wood and has a core of a phoenix feather, which also comes from Fawkes. Albus Dumbledore has the Elder Wand: an elder tree and the core of a tail hair of a Threstal.
Best way to describe the houses I think is as follows: Slytherin: Cunning and ambitious. They aren't technically supposed to be evil, but they've got big ambitions and will do whatever it takes to achieve them. Gryffindor: Courageous and independent. They're basically the jocks and rulebreakers. Them and Slytherin are the most competitive of the houses. Ravenclaw: Intellectual and introspective. The password to enter their common room is literally just answering a riddle, so anyone who is smart enough can get in. Hufflepuff: Loyal and Dependable. These guys make the best friends but they are also the least ambitious of the four houses. They always come in last place in every competition but the most popular guy in school at one point was a Hufflepuff. Personally, I'm a Hufflepuff, probably due to my lack of ambition and belief in standing up for your friends, but to be honest, I imagine most people could realistically fit into at least two or three of the houses if not all four. Humans are ultimately complex beings with many different facets to their personality, so grouping them into narrow stereotypes doesn't realistically work.
They aren't supposed to be evil, but literally every single student Slytherin we meet in the movies and books is a blood supremacist. All the adults too, with one exception. Every single Slytherin also decided to hide instead of fight in the battle of hogwarts. Slytherin fuckin sucks lol.
@@tortoiseoflegends4466 Yeah, it's pretty unfortuante they were written that way. Plus this man KNEW he was gonna make Gryfindor win but he baited Slytherin and even changed their flags. Pure mastermind
He's such a troll isn't he
This was a movie that defined my childhood. It’s the first film I remember seeing in the theatre and SIX TIMES including with friends and family. And that’s not even counting the number of times on VHS and DVD and the times I read the book/listened to the audiobook. It’s still my favorite potter film.
45:07 that "Up to something" while staring Harry dead in the eyes gains quite a lot of context after seeing the fifth movie, ngl :D
Pat had me in tears damn near this whole reaction 😂😂😂
spideys my favourite normie man hes too funny
Spidey: "I hate kids." Also Spidey: "Bro you in here picking on kids?" :D
He's also the best at figuring things out. He had Dudley's number before Dudley even said a line, and new Quirrell was sus from the start!
22:34 I love that you caught this immediately, Spidy. It's mentioned in the books how much it bothers him
Aside from the very irritating beginning and end, the reaction was hugely entertaining - I kinda assumed Pat and Spidey would be more sarkey and dismissive, but they gave it a good shot and got invested, and the dynamic was so fun to watch.
I would be shocked if you took the sorting quiz and didn't get Slytherin. Which is something you guys should definitely do a reaction for.... you should all take the most recent sorting and wand quiz on the website!
6:30
It's probably even more magical (or disturbing) when you Google after the movie that SNAKES DON'T EVEN HAVE EYELIDS. HOW DID IT W I N K ? ? ?
Hey Spidey same here! Raised as JW (no longer a part of it) but somehow the HP-verse found its way into my childhood. A friend of mine (also a JW) lent me the first book when I was 12 and I really enjoyed it.
Same conversation in every movie lol
Pat&Spidey a ask question:
Rana: "I'm going to stop answering spoiler questions because they tell you eventually!"
Pat&Spidey: "coo.."
::Harry walks forward::
Navi: "See in that scene Harry just walked forward, it's because he has legs that he can do that!"
First saw this in the theaters when I was 10 years old. To be around the same age as the kids in this movie, and every movie after it, is an amazing feeling. Such a "magical" time.
i can't with Pat's comments hahaha "we can't be flying out here" i'm deadddd
but also, Spidey's so rightttt, they DO need a black friend. if they had one, they wouldn't be finding no trouble hhaha
I’ve been hoping for this reaction from y’all for a long time. Thank you soooooo much for sharing it with us! So excited to watch y’all go on this journey🫶🏻🫶🏻
bro! Spidey falling asleep at 15:49....😂😂.
Edit: Bro kept falling asleep. Feel so bad for him, but also huge respect! Bro trying his best.
If I was gonna predict anything pre-reaction, I would have predicted that Pat would want to slap the shit out of the Dursleys within 30 seconds.
being a book reader watching the movies and still shipping harmione is WILD. he literally calls her his sister.
I recently watched all of these for the first time, can’t wait to go through them all with y’all!
Only in the US
Bertie Botts Every Flavor Beans are real, and they have some *truly* disgusting flavors.
@4:42 Rana didn't need to tell such a stone cold lie😭😭
It wasn't. She's just really that stupid.
Late to the party but if no one mentioned it, the kid who was the announcer during the quidditch game played Magnitude in Community POP POP
Honestly, couldnt care less about what the author did. I just absolutely love the subject matter.
pat getting angry af at 5:34 is hilarious. "Dongado. Dondo-whatever his fucking name is"
Pat “griffindor seems like a bunch of prep kids.”
Weasleys are legit poor as hell 😅
Yeah, it sounds more like a Slytherin thing, which is ironic since Pat said he'd want to be in Slytherin.
Hedwig is the name of the owl. It should have been said a few times during the full length reaction.
Basically, Voldemort cannot reach Harry at the Dursley's for as long as he consider that place [home] or until he's of age.
RIP To Robbie Coltrane Who played our beloved Hagrid ❤️ There’s no Hogwarts without you Hagrid
Little did they know Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood didn't give a Damn
Imagine being more scared of a philosopher than a sorcerer…
@ What I wanted to say with scare is more like "it will be boring, nobody likes philosophy!".
Yeah, in the books, Fang was a Great Dane (though they used the other term for Great Danes, which is "boar hound"), but the dog in the movies is actually a Neapolitan Mastiff.
While The Dursley’s were awful people, man, their actors made them entertaining AF.
Navi as Slytherin represent! No idea why this makes me so happy... but it does! 🥰
People getting mad at the movies and games because of the author is so fucking stupid.
Some people bought the game and refuse to play it.
People are so stupid these days.
You cut the "You're a wizard Harry" line noo 😭😂
I recently watched all the Harry Potter movies for the first time. Being British, I was amazed at how few spoilers I actually knew going in.
The food if actually made and placed on identical tables in the kitchens below the great hall and then magically transported. Gamps law of elemental transfiguration states you cannot make food from nothing.
They were enjoying the Halloween feast when the troll intruded so school had been in session for two months.
For 5 years now we’ve turned Christmas to “Pottermas” in our home! Literally our ENTIRE dining room is Potter everything!! We have a Potter tree and every year we add more ornaments, decor, and fun diys! I’m 38 and my daughter is soon to be 5 and she LOVES Potter. HP is a classic and will affect generations to come. #always
I love how Harry's greatest strength is how much of a good, courageous, and strong person he is
5:29-5:37 I have never laughed so hard at a reaction 😂
21:47 Pat: Man, I eff with this dude
(Two seconds later)
Pat: Hang on bro he’s just taking notes!
25:40.... One of my favorite scenes. CERBERUS...... The giant 3 headed dog from Greek mythology, guarding the gateway to the underworld world. The ultimate guard dog....
Yea...we not cancelling the boy who lived.
I love how into it you guys are its great to see. Pat is funny as hell here
imo i think it would be better for first time watchers to just react to it naturally and for girls to hold onto their nostalgia and excitement tad a bit low cause its distracting and forces others to react...otherwise i love that you guys are doing this
1:20 - Ayy..
So basically I became a Harry Potter fan on November 11th, 2001. lmao
In retrospect Harry was safer at the Dursleys than he ever was at Hogwards ....
Best way to describe the houses I think is as follows:
Slytherin: Cunning and ambitious.
Contrarily, at the Battle of Hogwarts it was mentioned that every single Hufflepuff refused to evacuate and stayed behind to help fight, even the first years who wouldn't have been good for anything other than being cannon fodder.
me a gryffindor who literally lacks bravery and doesn't take risks 🤡...i don't get how I got sorted into this house because I'm not even close to being what makes a gryffindor a gryffindor lol...slytherin is such a cool house it's just that for the plot the house gets shit on... which sucks because I really wanted to see a good slytherin student fighting alongside the golden trio..
Ok firstly, #Ravenclawfoflife 😂
Secondly, and most importantly, Harrys Owls name is Hedwig, it's a name he found in one of his new textbooks, and she's a girl! Harry said her name the first time in that first night scene in the castle when they were both sitting in the window sill, and he was petting her❤
Imma be real -- i dont use twitter so i feel so out of the loop and none of the tweets i have seen have shown much transphobia, but it is almost set in stone now -- one day she wasnt one day she was -- my biggest problem with her was her save worldbuilding near the end and somewhat fumbling of characters -- but the initial character creation and worldbuilding is some of the best ---
However, can someone inform me on how exactly she was transphobic because i really cant quite understand
There's a behind the scenes video (which msure is on UA-cam somewhere) with behind-the-scenes of this first movie. All the kids are adorable (the main actors are all the extras). mit's really cute.
damn someone get pat all the Sylterin Merch.... that was perfect at the end
Obviously, you can't fly on a broomstick IRL, which kind of makes the IRL version of Quidditch games junk and janky, but imagine Quidditch in VR!
Hermione: Harry eres el mejor mago del mundo.
Harry: procede a hacer ningún hechizo en toda la película 😂
23:59 in the books the school provides brooms but they’re SCHOOL brooms so some are so old that they just do their own thing
I bought my littlest sister all the Harry Potter books for her birthday and Christmas. She loved them.
This is the first time I’ve watched the version of Harry Potter where it’s ‘sorcerers stone’ 😂 feels wierd
Pat and spidey were such good reactors for this series😂
I am actually glad you guys are watching these.
If you think anyone should be "cancelled" for their views then PLEASE by all means don't watch their work. You shouldn't get to enjoy their work while your other hand's trying to erase them from history. If you can't separate someone's views from the good work they did, and you think treating people that way is right, then stand by it.
