Whoever can figure out what makes old instruments sound better could make millions.
The 78 is magnificent !!
StingRays are my favorite .❤
Wow, nice RATM inspired riff there at 2:37 - the SR Special sounds really fat and nasty there, lovely!
The 78 and the Special had very similar qualities - not a sparkle paintjob fan but I've had pretty much all three of these thru the years....the Special neck was nicest - so I will give it the WIN. Great content. Cheers
Very nice comparison. I like the 78 and classic the most. But with some tweaks the special is top too.
100% agree with this comment!
My favorite bass ever sound wise. Special sounded just a bit nicer in this video, in my opinion.
all sound quite nice, the classic sounds like it has slightly more bass than the '78. The Special is definitely the most clean/precise sounding. You can hear so much detail from the strings.
Stingray Special 😎💪
what's up with the 78 stingray why does it sound the best? lol
I find the 78 has more presence
Given that I hope that he played the Special with the bridge pickup only, I prefer the neodimyum sound of the Special pickup, also if it is "effected" by the 3 eq...
Of course I played it with the bridge pu in parallel mode only. What kind of establishment do you think we're running here ;)
@@LowFrequencySoundsare you Thomas Meinlschmidt? 🙂
@@luigi.zanini Yes Sir
What does flat mean? At 50% or all the way off?
Boring to say but the '78 wins all round by far! Classic is not as open or vibey. The Special is too sterile. The original sounds woody and organic. Great review!
I have to agree 100% . And I'm not even a Stingray player. But I think we should add that at least part of the special's "sterileness" is due to the ebony.
Steel frets don’t help either.
This is why I sold my Aqua sparkle Special 5HH. The Ebony and ash combo was not warm enough.
I just wish they would have a good vintage style Stingray always available at a reasonable price like Fender do with their vintage reissues.
The Classic just sounds like it has the bass and treble up a little more. It's hard to set two 2-bands exactly the same since there's no detent. I believe the 78 would in all likelihood not have the long pole pickup of the 76 and 77 models though, which would make it extremely close electronically to the Classic. The Special is completely different. Neodymium pickups and a totally different preamp. I would agree they do not sound or feel as good. They feel like you're playing the preamp rather than the pickup. 2-bands feel like you're playing a passive bass.
