just got my first stingray (sterling) about a week or two ago after being strictly a fender bass guy for 10+ years. what a killer bass! i'd love to get a full blown music man some day.
Lee, By neck radius I believe EBMM is referring to the curvature of the fingerboard itself. What you are referring to (shape of the back of the neck) is the neck profile. I confused the 2 for years and made a few bungled purchased based on that misunderstanding, LOL! Your absolutely correct that the neck profile has changed. My hands are on the smaller end of the spectrum and I really struggled to play the pre 2018 Stingrays. This new model is soooo much easier to play all over the neck. I'm a long time watcher from the States. Love what you all do man! Keep it up :-)
I usually don't care for sunburst or tabacco burst, but that burnt apple looks nice. Unfortunately, as a lefty, most of our color choices tend to be pretty limited.
I'm a lefty but play right and I have noticed that about leftys thats not fair to u guys, you can always learn righty and when people find put you are a lefty isn't surprises people so that pretty cool also .
Nice choice. Honestly my first choice would be the charcoal sparkle. Second would be aqua sparkle and then 3rd would be the dropped copper. Currently own a sterling in ash black with white wood grain. If you can't tell I love music man stingray basses.
Musicman make some of the best mass produced guitars and basses on the planet, but my word the prices (probably due to rubbish £ and ridiculous tax etc) have shot up by £1000 over 2-3 years. I realise these are upgraded...but unfortunately out of reach for a younger player now.
ErnieBall MusicMan basses are made in the U.S.A. and the workers are paid a living wage, you get what you pay for. If you want cheaper but quality bass check out outsourced Indonesian & Korean manufactures.
American made, you get what you pay for. The Sterling range is made in Korea and much better value while still being really high quality. I own a Sterling Stingray and it's fantastic, and don't feel the need to spend £1000+ more on a US bass.
I own a Sterling Ray 34 too and it's amazing. When I have the opportunity, in the future, I may try and maybe buy the american made models. I love this instrument and those are certainlly BEAUTIFUL.
I've been a Fender bass dude since highschool, many moons ago. I now have two Stingrays--short scale and 34" scale--and now prefer them to my Fenders. Nice video.
Great demo of all pu positions and loved the presentation of all the colors side by side. Great job! I actually think the single humbucker model might make me happiest
When are you guys gonna do the ernieball sterling model? Would be cool to see. Not the budget line(sterling by music man), but the actual American made “Sterling.” An amazing and underrated bass.
These are my favorite basses. I’ve had one for twelve years. Never needed to adjust the neck. Stays in tune all the time... I have two fenders and constantly have to adjust the neck.. it’s a pain in the butt. My P bass I have to take the neck off to adjust the truss rod. Just did it yesterday. These sound better and play better than any bass I owned. Wish I could get a new one.
Have a 5 string HH - try one and you'll love the necks on these. Slick, fast and not bulky and look beautiful with the roasting and gunstock wax. Also a selling point, not as heavy as previous generations of Stingray.
I have a 1999 Stingray-5. I gigged with it for 5 years and never changed the knobs. The reason is I could hardly tell any difference in anything but the volume so I set all the knobs at 12 o’clock, the switch in the middle and left it there. Anyone know what they do?
Alien Crocodile imo it allows MM to accentuate certain frequencies to give it a specific character. Most significantly, they have a baked in HPF that keeps the low end tight and out of the way of where a bass drum would sit. On a 2 band eq, the treble and bass controls don’t really change the core tone that much - the treble adds very high frequencies to give you a top end presence and a bit of a zing to finger style, and the bass knob just adds low end. But both don’t change that dominant low-mid sound. You can just fine tune the beef or the zing... there’s still a place for your amp EQ
I keep hearing fret buzz. Is that the instrument or the aggressive finger playing style? I'd love to hear it without so much to hear the range it can do.
Hey guys! I think it would be really helpful for you to make a video which demos bass amps by speaker size. I've just been turned on to how vastly different a 10" sounds from a 12"... I'm sure a lot of other bassists as well as myself would like to hone in their preferences between the two or three different sized speakers we are usually choosing from.
@@CNick75 most people seem to think there is definitely a difference between 10s, 12s and 15s. Goes without saying that the materials are huge. But seems that all the pros definitely consider the size of the speakers in different cabs to achieve different sounds...
@@NRG2 Not at all trolling. Do some research. Talkbass has a ton of threads on it. Look for comments by people who actually build cabs. The old BS about 10s being tighter and 15s going deeper is just that, BS. The construction of the enclosure, the baffling, the crossover, the material the driver is constructed of, how the cabinet is voiced by the designer have much more to do with the sound than a simple diameter measurement. "All the pros" don't agree on anything, much less this. If bass cabinet design was simply an exercise in speaker size then we wouldn't have much to talk about, would we?
Apple Red for me pls but didn't catch the price..? Single H As per one of the other comments i to have a Fender Jazz bass that requires a neck adjustment every other day.... Looking to trade it for a Stingray... They also do a new colour called Copper Chopper...
All I can say is, I'm extremely disappointed with the Special SR5 HH in vintage tobbaco with maple fretboard. I don't know what I';m doing wrong or what;s wrong with it aside from the much needed initial setup: - The headphones I'm using or amps - It came with super slinkys(125-40), never used them and I hate them, I prefer regular slinkys(130-45). I'll change them today to see if there's any difference Aside from the 1ft position, bridge humbucker tone which doesn;t have the same punch as classic stingrays, it plays nice, the rest of the positions, bleh. Don;t know if I'm used to much to the Jazz tone among other tones, but man.. soo bummed out.
You wouldn't even have to listen to them to tell a quality difference. The fret work, smoothness of the knobs and noise in the knobs, paint, wiring and soldering, electronics, tuners, nut, weight, feel of the neck or simply by plugging in a guitar cord and feeling how smoothly it snaps in and out will set them apart even before any listening. I have both.
Stephen Kennedy here in canada ive just got this beauty but the price whit tax is around 3000$ am fender dude and wanna have jazz bass american original ...price 2899$ whit no tax so nothing will save your ass today if you wanna have good bass ! The problem is the tax ans custom tax etc
They sounded good in this video, but then that boy could make a washtub bass sound good, plus there's no way of knowing how much post production sound tweaking went on. It doesn't matter either way as I'd never buy a bass of this type. I need 6 or 7 strings, at least 24 frets and neck through. An ebony fingerboard is nice too, but not a deal breaker if it's rosewood.
I think they look cool, they have a very recognizable look. It's the oval pickguard you probably don't like, and at first I didn't like it either (I only liked the Fender look), but now I dig it. Most other basses don't do anything for me looks wise. They sound great too, I've been playing one for years now, but I'm selling it because it's 9.9 lbs. Even though I was seriously considering getting a new one (lighter weight and all), I think I'll grab a Fender Professional Jazz instead. I think I dig the classic passive Fender tone more.
This guy is a killer bass player. This is a pleasure to watch
I believe that everyone should have at least one bass in their collection. You’d be surprised how much it comes in handy.
they could do a lot worse than get a Stingray
1. bridge humb only 13:30
2. double humbs out 15:30
3. both humbs 15:49
4. double humbs in 16:05
5. neck humb only 16:19

I watch tons of bass reviews being that I’ve been an obsessed bass player for 15yrs. AND Lee by far does the BEST reviews ! THANKS!
Awesome playing! And awesome basses too - besides Fender Jazz and P Bass, this is all you need!
That TV Yellow one looks so sick! That Olivey green one on the left would be my second pick

I love he look of the new baked maple necks but I love the old 2Eq stingrays electronics
Lee can groove...go boy~~~
Nothing is going to stop me from having that lovely teal-cruz HH on the back. Finance it is!
WOW !! This guy has some great chops👍🍺
I'm lucky enough to own a charging green model. I love it. such a different color and the maple fretboard really makes it pop
I bought my first musicman just over 25 years ago by far the best bass I’ve ever owned
i have to buy one some day. I love those basses
I have the 5h in charcoal sparkle and it's fantastic. This is definitely the year to get one
that grey one is my total bass crush, dayummm

If only I could afford any of these

Radius is the curvature of the fretboard, not the shape of the back of the neck. Radius can be the same with a different (slimmer) neck shape.
I have a 1999 Stingray-5. I gigged with it for 5 years and never changed the knobs. The reason is I could hardly tell any difference in anything but the volume so I set all the knobs at 12 o’clock, the switch in the middle and left it there. Anyone know what they do?
The roasted maple neck sounds diferent than the natural maple neck? Or it is just for good looking?
I know I’m late to the party but can the pickups be used passively also?
Very good video!..does anyone have any experience with the HH version with slapping? Is that neck pickup a hindrance?
Nice playing mate, lovely bass’s, green one for me please 👍🎼
I’d love the blue twin pickup version!
Always wanted a fretless one of these.
It'll be interesting how they'll sound like.
For fuuuck sake mate... BRILLIANT playing!! Great vid!
Where's the dropped copper model? I'm desperate for that one!
Why dont you do worldwide shipping andertons?
Are the 2017 models getting a price discount?
So Andertons are not stocking the Dropped Copper, which is really nice looking.......Very Strange!
The 18 volts preamp seems to be the big difference.
The blue silver sparkle :O Does it come with a single humbucker option?
I think they all do.
paradise
This might sound like a dumb question but what difference does it make having a pre amp in your bass rather than just having one with your amp?
Alien Crocodile imo it allows MM to accentuate certain frequencies to give it a specific character. But both don’t change that dominant low-mid sound. You can just fine tune the beef or the zing... there’s still a place for your amp EQ
It gives you extra control to fine tune your sound at your fingertips. For mean, I set my amp’s EQ to fit the room and my bass’s EQ to fit the song.
what a player!
I keep hearing fret buzz. Is that the instrument or the aggressive finger playing style? I'd love to hear it without so much to hear the range it can do.
Light gauge stock strings and heavy hands and stainless steel frets.

two 9v batteries? jesus, the added cost of these makes me appreciate my jazz bass even more.

You can get more sounds out of a jazz bass too. Jazz basses sound better too In my opinion and they are waaaaayyyyy less expensive.

Why does nobody use reverb on bass? It sound really wack dry.
