16 is a great age for a horse - generally not considered old unless there are underlying health issues. A horse that is regularly ridden and well cared for will often still be happy and usable well into their 20's. This is a stunning, sweet mare. Connemara/Thoroughbred is a wonderful cross!
Iam amazed how much they respond to your adjustments. They become so calm and relaxed. It's like they know your trying to help them. And you breathe with them. Sharing your calm energy. It's really a beautiful thing.
Wouldn't it be interesting to know if horses in the wild suffer from such cramped muscles and spinal maladjustments ? Lol, not sure if one could ever stand still long enough to check it out, Dr. Doug! But are most of these spasms and pains coming from the mechanical equipment we use on horses ? The halters and bridles and perhaps ill-fitting saddles, etc? Wouldn't it be great if we could learn to change our ways a bit, to avoid hurting them ?
My favorite part was how you started talking to Kaia about her adjustments, not the audience, or her handler. you talked to HER. i think that's a wonderful example of a human truly connecting on an empathetic level with the animal. You could see she wasn't sure about what was happening but she trusted you to help whatever discomfort was being caused. She went right along and let you do things i don't think I've seen anyone else get away with with horses i've been around. You connect to these animals on another level and it absolutely aids in your treatment. It's very cool to see and sets a wonderful example for all people. You can connect with these creatures past the need for words or physical restraint or control. it's absolutely amazing Sir i'm so Glad I found your channel. I love seeing her reaction when she realizes the pain is gone. I'm curious to see how animals react to you once they've done this a couple times and knows who you are and what you do. Do they often greet you with eagerness or familiarity? (I also enjoyed the dog coming over to check on what was going on. Dogs generally look at embraces as potential aggression or a fight which is why they try to 'break up' people kissing or hugging. I could see the wheels turning as he tried to figure out if the horse was in distress or if you were causing it pain or the other way around. and the little tap with the foot when the dog's like 'ok cool just checking')

I love how patient you are with the animals and how you tap into your calm and create the atmosphere for the horses. This is such a powerful thing that everyone has and many don't realize it. You create the atmosphere that surrounds you weather it's peace, excitement, happy, stress, anger, nerves and you have the power to change it if you put your mind and heart to it. We are all influenced by energy but children and animals seem to be especially so
Thank you Bethany, I try. Sometimes I feel agitated by the distractions, but I know, I have to get past that, or I don't have a chance at doing my best with the horses.
Considering all that you were asking of her, Kaia was so compliant. I picture horses lining up down the road saying, I'm next after you. Just because horses are able to carry a human we forget it has to take a toll on them. I love your posts.
Absolutely wonderful seeing this beautiful horse being helped. Seeing that she knows this is a bit weird but it's making things feel better and trusting in you as she senses you are a wonderful human being 💖💖 Another fabulous video 😊
Kaia is trusting the Dr now - she's holding completely still when he's doing funny things with the block and suddenly becoming big - but she knows she's in good hands and he does things to take her hurts away.

I appreciate how calm Dr. Doug remained while giving the dog a gentle nudge away with his foot. I was getting concerned that the dog staring out of curiosity could feel like a predator to the horse and make the therapy session tricky for doctor, patient, handler, and camera person. It appears the pupper didn't take it personal. Kudos to all.
I always try to show all the warts when I do a session. I never edit out those moments. You plan for the best, and be ready for the worst. I once had a dog run under a barrel racing rodeo horse that I was treating in Texas. I was adjusting the horses' TMJ at that exact moment, and the horse lurched and swung his head really fast and head-butted me. I had bruised jaw for a week. It felt like a boxer gave me a left hook. So, they are innately on guard with a rambunctious dog around, or even a curious dog, happy-go-lucky dog. I love dogs as you can see if you watch my other videos, but I don't really love them under my feet during a horse session.
