This. It's $550,000,000 over 5 years from what I've heard, or $110m a year. That's for two shows and 4 hours per week, plus 5 hour PPVs once a month. Basically the equivalent of four regular weekly TV shows and three TV movies a month. Popular TV shows run from $1m to as much as $60m per episode, but usually only cover an hour, or maybe an hour and a half. They'd spend more to get a 24 episode 1 hour AAA comedy going than for 104 episodes at 2 hours each of AEW, not counting their PPVs going on Max. The crazy part of all this is Tony loved watching these wrestlers and he himself no doubt thought highly of Ospreay and Okada and Mone and wanted them on his show instead of WWE. But in doing so he's diminished their cache and impact and made them worse off and more over he doesn't even get to see them wrestle as much now that they're on his show because he doesn't know how to consistently book them for success. So I'm acquiring them Tony ended up hurting them in the long run.
Beyond the fact that Tony can't manage people, I think the bigger issue in AEW is the Young Bucks. Their influence on the current AEW product is very clear to me. All of the people in prominent roles right now are known friends or associates of the Young Bucks. Every close associate of CM Punk or Cody is either being jobbed out, inexplicably off tv, or is gone from the company altogether. It is obvious that the Death Riders storyline is leading to the Bucks returning as top babyfaces, despite the fact that they are getting no reaction from the audience, and haven't in months. Everything in AEW is set up to promote the Bucks and their friends, regardless of whether or not it is justified. Unless Tony puts someone in charge who is capable of getting them in check or removing them altogether, AEW is going to continue to circle the drain. The influence that CM Punk had on AEW while he was there is becoming more and more obvious as time passes. He was preventing it from turning into a total indie shitshow.
it was ABSOLUTELY the right move to air the footage. we all know if he didnt fans and everyone online wouldve kept speculating FOREVER and NEVER get any closure on the matter of WTF actually happened with CM Punk and Jack Perry. literalyle verys ingel day nonstop fans and everyone was talking and gossiping and arguing about the CM Punk Jack Perry thing and it was toxic. Also depends on thew perspective of how TK may of thought it got him the new TV Deal. he could look at it as before airing it the speculation of how bad the incident was and of culdve been was having WB having doubts on whether to renew or not with that cloud above AEW and airing the footage and showing WB and every1 what happened killed their doubts they had about renewing. only logic i can think of why TK may of thought that if this report is even true. if not than no clue
And I call baloney on tony thinking that punk footage got him the tv deal. They signed the deal in September and it was announced in October. From April, when the footage was shown, till October..their ratings was trending downward. It wasn't trending upward after the footage was shown. And if anything, it made tony looked worse and exposes his statements saying he was in fear for his life and validated everything Punk said. No way he actually believes that helped.
Dave Meltzer also reported that Punk vs Rock may happen and a story between them makes no sense at WM. He was sleeping the entire 2013 or he's lost it completely.
I mean, if that's the case, then that sucks for AEW even more than I imagined. You're telling me they got a deal because of 15 seconds of footage of a guy who hasn't been in the company for a year!!??? Can't Meltzer realise that even his delusional remarks are hurting the company?
I watch wrestling observer podcasts regularly and Dave and Brian are both very critical these days of aew (Dave’s been downright despondent recently lol.) For some reason he’s like a different person on twitter.
Tbh, I think Meltzer praises and defends AEW on twitter to get more engagement. He knows it’ll rile up the IWC, and with twitter now paying creators, he’s creating more of an income stream and tbh, i don’t blame the dude lol

"They want him to have a world title match in the midst of THIS?!"
- Tony Schiavone, 1998
Idk if Punk still being there, would of made of difference today. They started losing viewers, when Punk was there.
Hey, I'm happy to see them get their deal . I'm excited to watch some matches on max. I don't have cable , i just watch everything on youtube or watch the ppv on triller TV
This is an embarrassing thing to admit 😂
If I worked in AEW and I read this from Tony, I would ask for my release. He’s practically saying that nothing/nobody else contributed to it
Jack Perry a star lol
Love that Kermit knows so much about wrestling
This is the most unbelievable BS spin ever
3:44 Because he's paying you lip service. Did the same thing to Corny. He'll be nice to your face and then publicly run you down when he thinks you're out of the room and out of earshot. Textbook "weasel shit".
Exactly
He thinks Perry is a star?
Only Mrs. Tony Khan would try to spin that silliness.
Now they can say oh the TV ratings are this but that's not counting the streaming so I believe numbers will start being stretched out
Beyond the fact that Tony can't manage people, I think the bigger issue in AEW is the Young Bucks.
Tony kahn has flashbacks everytime he sees a pepsi symbol...
metlzer is an idiot.. u guys had your chance to call him out but Konnan folded like KG on killing the town
Praying 🙏 for Rays Dad and family
I only joined in for jack perry. Dude is a star.
it was ABSOLUTELY the right move to air the footage. we all know if he didnt fans and everyone online wouldve kept speculating FOREVER and NEVER get any closure on the matter of WTF actually happened with CM Punk and Jack Perry. literalyle verys ingel day nonstop fans and everyone was talking and gossiping and arguing about the CM Punk Jack Perry thing and it was toxic.
I don't mind the recent switch to ai thumbnails but y'all gotta do a little better quality control than letting TK have E.T. fingers 😂
Here comes those uncomfortable AI images.
