  • Join me (Alex) as I navigate, explain and sample some of the best Ukuleles in the Flight Ukulele range. Flight are an Eastern European Ukulele company that produce dozens of their own unique models in China. If you are on social media and into the Ukulele then there is no doubt you would have already come across Flight but do they live up to the hype? Judge for yourself but we certainly think so... Snail, Pono, Ohana, Kala and Cordoba should probably watch out!

    I bought the Phantom model and it is superb, really well made and has a lovely sweet tone. I think it is very reasonably priced for a solid wood model with ebony fingerboard. Add in the pickup and it becomes a bit of a bargain. The woods are well matched on my particular model and every time I get it out of the case it still strikes me how good looking it is. It pays to try out a few different ukes to get the one that fits you best.

    I’m making the rounds on these reviews. I have the Flight Mustang and the fret wires are larger than any I have encountered. It makes a .3 mm space difference in the fret width. It sounds like an insignificant difference but it definitely cramps my fingers at the higher fret. The fret wire is also higher making the intonation delicate if you press too hard. For a guy with arthritis this small difference makes it harder for me to play. I lowered the strings as low as possible without buzzing. It helped but it’s really taking some getting used to. Other than that it’s a beautiful instrument with a beautiful tone and sustain.

      Hello Tim, interesting comment of yours. Maybe we can make an exchange…?
      For my less precise level of play I wish I’d had a Mustang over my Tiny Tenor (Romero Creations uke, in spalted mango). Want to swap? It sounds superb, but hardly used for I much prefer my Flight Comet Tenor. You are right, the fret wires are thin and low on the Tiny Tenor. I prefer something more tactile for want of a better word. I gifted a Flight Mustang to my daughter-in-law last year, had a go at it when visiting her, and adored it! Honestly, I’d prefer the Mustang for myself, too. It’s a genuine enquiry!
      I’ve ventured backwards into your reviews, Alex, to watch the Spirit segment in particular. I have one on its way as I write, from a retailer here in Australia. I have longed for a decent concert and it happens to be the closest spec’ed to the Mustang (though without that lush look subtle staining to the acacia the Mustang has, nor the acacia fretboard like the M). Thank you, to you, and your mates/colleagues at SUS. I enjoy the playing and ukulele reviews. I don’t ‘need’ any more ukuleles but am bound to be a customer again. Cheers

    Flight Phantom Tenor sounds absolutely incredible to me! I've tried Diana and it's a great uke in it's price point and i love to play it. But Phantom one is really it for me, at least according to this video. It looks gorgeous, it sounds fantastic and it isn't too pricey so i can eventually afford it. The question now is, do i go for Diana (which i can get imidiately for a good price) or save up and go directly for Phantom? This is going to be my first ukulele, but i've been playing guitar and bass for 15 years, so i'm definitely interested in buying an instrument worth keeping! Great demo, thank you for making it :)

    Hi! Thanks for your work. It's really informative. I've recently tried a Flight Sophia Tenor Soundwave, and when I changed the strings to the Aquila Red LowG series, it started fuzzing terribly; it sounded like broken metal, the E string in particular, so I returned it. To your knowledge, what might have caused the issue? Would the Phantom Tenor have the same problem? I mean, I have a 100 pounds Luna Tattoo concert ukulele that plays perfectly no matter what the strings are; for an instrument worthing x4, I expected more. Thanks again, hope I find the perfect tenor uke for me!

    • @SouthernUkuleleStore
      @SouthernUkuleleStore  2 роки тому

      It sounds like it just needed to be set up after you changed the strings. If the uke worked fine before you changed the strings then it is unlikely the uke is the problem.
      Different ukes like different strings and the set up is going to be different too from one to the next... that Sophia probably just needed a set up. The other option is that when you restrung it, the cabling inside moved a bit and was suddenly touching the top. When you hear a muted fuzzy sound, it could well be something vibrating inside.
      Without seeing the uke I have no way of knowing but if the shop that sold it to you took it back without trying to fix it then they probably didn't try to set it up in the first place.

    I found the tuners to be cheaply made on the Diana TE....Chrome? Also they could have done a better fret job. The 8th fret shorter than the others and the 15th longer and my finger catches on it. Hate the WorthBrown strings. Active electronics are nice and pretty woods. Great gig bag. Improve the tuners and better quality control and you have a good ukulele.

      The tuners is another interesting point. I would say that they are of a similar quality to other unbranded tuners of a similar price, there is room for improvement I suppose. You should feed it back to the dealer so that they are accountable. If you got it from us in the short time we've sold them I'd insist you get in touch.
