    Hey man, thank for putting this up it's good info to have! I have a thought and a tip for this if you'd like.
    I think that the diff took the extra oil because the car was rolled to the left moving the fill port on the right hand side higher up than it would be if level to the ground. I think the differentials and gearboxes are calibrated to be filled when level.
    Also, if you break loose but leave the fill plugs in their home you can effectively throttle the airflow into the diff or gearbox. They'll want to breath to release the oil and restricting the airflow back in makes the draining process a little easier to control. A similar thing works with the engine oil dipstick tube, but there are other ways for air to get into the crankcase to help the oil get out.

    Strong chance you put extra fluid in because the diff was not level when filling.

    Looks more like a drain and fill then a flush? The reason for the greater amount of lube is do to the angle of the car on a single stand?

      Warming up a bit will help it flow out easier. I wouldn’t get it to full operating temp, but maybe a few minutes around the neighborhood.

    My local tuner shop used motul 75w140 for my transmission and diff. They said it would be better for the 5 speed on my 07Wrx. Just curious what your thoughts are on this? Great video!

    • @Scoobyfreak86
      @Scoobyfreak86  3 роки тому +1

      I’m more familiar with the 6spd so I’m not sure. The wrx trannys are a bit more fragile so having a thicker weight could help prolong the life.

    • @rollymignacca4821
      @rollymignacca4821 3 роки тому +1

      Using a thicker gear oil in your trans , and diff , will definitely give you greater protection under load . But just keep in mind with thicker oil you are increasing the hydro dynamics in the trans and diff , which may affect fuel economy .

    Did you lift the front to just to drain out more old oil? Thanks for the tip of the drain bold, didn’t know it fit the oil pan to! How much did it cost?

    • @Scoobyfreak86
      @Scoobyfreak86  3 роки тому +1

      Being that I was able to get more than 1L into the diff, it was a good sign that the diff was pretty much empty, so there was no need to jack the front up to drain more. As you can see, the drain bolt is offset to the left of the diff, which in my logic, helped drain it much better than lifting the entire rear end. If I found I didn't get enough fluid out, I would have tried a different approach, but was confident it drained nearly all of the oil.
      Link is in the description for everything (include the drain plug) which has all the costs associated with this project.

    • @Ciedric

      @@Scoobyfreak86 I was thinking, does the magnetic bold give you any benefits to use it in the engine oil pan? Subaru didn't install them, yes they do in your tranny but your tranny doesn't have an oil filter.

    • @Scoobyfreak86
      @Scoobyfreak86  3 роки тому

      Yes. Any metal containment’s that may fall into the pan catches on the magnet. Which can potentially save the motor in the long run.

    • @Ciedric
      @Ciedric 3 роки тому

      @@Scoobyfreak86 But that's why they invented the oil filter right? If it was really that important Subaru had installed a magnetic plug form factory just like they did on the transmission.
