If it's any consolation, when the big update for FTL comes out you will be able to unlock the Crystal Cruiser pretty much by unlocking the other 7 ships.
Normally I watch these for the info but hate the way people give it. They are either arrogant about how far they are in the game, or really to self-involved and start gushing about their social life (for which Facebook exists). You on the other hand, are great at this. Clear info in voice, video to support your info, very straight to the point. 5min of my life, I will not desire back!
Goog god after hours of resetting I got really lucky, the first run that I found the long-ranged scanners in the first shop happened to be the perfect run. I was also so close to death when I got to the crystal homeworlds with no weapons (needed to see for fuel) and I hit the jackpot! There was a shop between the starting location and the final quest marker! Thank god that's over!
I've been at the rock homeworld 3 times without finding the wormhole.This is by far the most useful tutorial on unlocking the ship, i would never have known what exact map layout i needed for this, u have saved me hours on useless attempts.
Hey your guide is really great, but now 10 year after, the Phase 3 step in the Rock Homeworlds seems to have changed. Please add a note about it in the video. See my other comment here on your video, I also have video proof on it. I unlocked the Crystal Ship only yesterday.
If you have Rock Cruiser type C you have crystal crewmember from the beginning so you dont have to do the phases with pod and go straight to the ancient device I think. Because the phases with pod are about getting a crystal crewmember and with Rock Cruiser type C you have crystal crewmember at the beginning. (edit: when you skip those pod missions you dont looking for a quest in the Rock Homeworlds but for blank beacon (no ship no distress no hazards nothing) source: BluesonAF

Welp, came here after getting the damaged Pod, managed to get into Enfi space, get Long Range Scanners from one random event and then the crystal crewmember from another. I got some red sectors ahead of me so fingers crossed.
Got the pod at sector 5, fingers crossed, I have a Zoltan crew too. First time I rolled the crystal pod I hope I don’t have to suffer through a failure
2018 and I still haven't unlocked it. Took me this many years to finally give up and look up how to do it. Got all the other ones but just not this one.
I got the stasis pod opened by pure chance after roughly 2 hours of gameplay shortly after buying the game but didn't get to a Rock sector. Crystal guy is pretty cool though.

So I just googled damaged space pod. Found it randomly in my first sector. Then the next mission i got gave me a Zoltan crewmember. Then the next store was selling long range scanners. Plus my map is a perfect 50/50 left right split of green and red. Is this really happening? Lol. Wish me luck
Hey this guide is great! But one step is not WRONG/OUTDATED, they must have changed it. On PHASE 3 when you come to the Rock Homeworlds, its NOT a blank planet, its a QUEST planet. I almost missed my chance of crystal ship because of this but luckily I checked out the QUEST and saw that it was the thing that brought me to the Crystal Homeworlds! And when you arrive at the Crystal Homeworlds the Crystal Ship itself will also be found at a QUEST planet.
Thanks for that extra info. UA-cam used to let me have little popups that would let me edit the stuff on the fly but those have long since been deleted.
josh Strunk Well you get more salvage in easy mode, so you can upgrade and repair more often. Also I believe that the fleet advances slower, so you have more time to search for what you need. If you're still having trouble surviving in easy, then I'm not sure what to tell you.

Hey fellas today I found out, that you can indeed just use rock ship variant c (has a crystal mamber) to trigger this event in the rock homeworld. The quest marker will not show up, but you can activate it anyway, if you find the right destination. If you have a long range scanner, there will also nothing be shown on the beacon. This is by far the fastest method I now have around 40 play hours. Greetings from Germany ❤
wait, so to open the pod, you want to get an event with NOTHING on it? Even with long range scanners you don't want to jump to an area where your longe range scanners show a possible ship?
I think I have the newest client. I have it on Steam. So, if I have Steam set up to auto update my games and there is an update, shouldn't the client get updated the next time I try to play the game? Dang I've tried like 10 times now and still have only gotten the first part to unlock once! There are people who have tried dozens of times without success. I'd say you're pretty lucky. =)

Right there with you, my first time getting the crew member I had inadvertently cornered myself in the wrong part of the sector. It would take 5 jumps through the rebel fleet to exit. I made it to jump four, then missiles. Just takes perseverance. I ended up getting it the next time.
When was the last time you updated your game client? They patched it so that a quest marker shows up in the Rock Homeworld when you have the prerequisites. That quest marker takes you to the Secret Sector

That sucks, but it happens. When I found it I had one sector left, and there was one blank jump I was unable to explore during the homeworlds. It's luck, but it's still a matter of hitting the right area. That's where having long range scanners, if you can grab them, are incredibly helpful. There are a lot of anomalies ad ships in the Rock Homeworlds, and if you know where they are you can avoid them as best you can.
Yes it will automatically update if you're using it on steam. When finding rockhomeworlds if you have the crystal crew member you will have a Quest on your map. Just go there and that's the portal. After you enter de Crystal "homeworld" there's another quest mark on your map, go there and unlock the ship. If you enter rock homeworld with Long-range-scanners avoid any battle and just go to the quest marks. I just unlocked the ship myself. It's a pain in the ass, but A and B are both good ships.
It's tough, because nothing is guaranteed to spawn in any of the systems. But you are required to hit specific systems, meaning that over numerous runs you have to get the one run that lays out correctly AND you have to execute it perfectly.
38 total hours played. I've had the stasis pod 6 times. Got it opened twice. Crystal crew member killed by a Mantis boarding party once. Still haven't found the secret portal in the Rock Homeworld. So very frustrating.
William van Uffelen Yes, you can. Just rename your crystal crew to "Ruwen" ,find the Rock Homeworlds , and get to the quest marker. Skipping the first two events still counts.
My understanding is this still works in advanced edition as well. You get to the secret sector the same way. However, you can also unlock it by winning with every Type A and Type B.
Bro I got the the secret sector with the mantis cruiser but I was out of fuel and then there was a mantis ship that my weapons couldn’t do anything to and they had a med bay so my mantises couldn’t kill them but then they jumped away with 2 of my mantises then I waited and the rebels were on me. I died
It’s eight years after, and luck isn’t on my side, first of all, I find the stasis chamber at rock homeworlds, and after I get crystal, I travel to ancient device, and guess what? I pick the wrong option, if that isn’t bad luck, I don’t know what is.
I'm at 86 hours now, so i get all the events have the crystal guy, then get to the second to last sector. I was so exited then it was a pirate sector this has happened so many fucking times its really starting to piss me off, I already have both versions of every other ship why the fuck won't they let me get this one.
I have the iPad version, it's easier to lock, stock and smoke the barrels of 2 Vulcans. If someone wants the Crystal Cruiser on the iPad version I must note a few things. 1. The Rock Cruiser type C's crystal crew member can NOT activate the device. You must find the Stasis Pod and follow the other steps. 2. It has been confirmed that a quest marker will NOT appear if you have the crew member, even with the type C or the Stasis Pod crew member. 3. Luck plays a bigger factor on the iPad version than the PC version.
I had him named Ruwen, I read that it worked if the crystal person from the type c is named that. I renamed him, went to the main menu and had him named Ruwin, but I found it named as Ruwen.

This video was made before FTL: Advanced Edition. Rock C works great because it starts with a crystal crew member, but you have to rename him to get the gate to automatically appear in the Rock Homeworlds (which is still not guaranteed to appear)

Did you see the annotation in the video? The rock homeworlds part of the quest chain is now marked with a quest marker the moment you enter the sector and meet all other requirements. Make sure your game is the latest version.
My most recent run for it I got the pod, the crewmember and no rock homeworlds. the run after that I got the pod but had no way to activate it and had the rock homeworlds. Damn you subset games!
I put it in an annotation but it isn't in the audio, but the rock homeworlds should give you a quest marker for the ancient device when you reach it with a crystal crew member.
If it makes anyone feel better I've been trying for years at this point have 204 hours into the game and still no Crystal Cruiser; can't wait for the day I can play a normal game in my Crystal Cruiser.
Sadly, that sounds about right . EVEN if you know what you're looking for and where to look, unlocking the crystal ship is a very difficult setup that isn't guaranteed to work.
StewieSwan I feel you. I reset all of my data when Advanced Edition released and I have only managed to get the crystal crew member once. ONCE. And the Rock Homeworlds don't show up (and of course I haven't unlocked the rock ship either)

Yeah RNG can be a pain. Honestly, I have not been able to unlock the Crystal Ship since I reset my data after AE dropped. I think I've only gotten the Damaged Stasis Pod twice. Just bad luck.

no you cant because you dont need just a crystal you need a specific dude that you get from the pod, and his name is always the same

Except that's not true. Any crystal crew will do, with any name. You can skip the first two parts and look for an empty beacon.

Does the titanium ship casting aug. work as an alternative for the rock plating?
When using the Rock ship, the Rock Homeworlds have been green for me. Only the Rock Controlled Sector is red.
I have just randomly got The Bravais (Crystal A) on the first try with Rock A.

One way to get this easier is scum saving. Copying the save file every time one step of this happens

I just got the stasis pod and then I found the device, but I couldn't open the pod. So freakin pissed.
You have no clue i have opened the stasis pod 3 times never gotten the rock homeworlds on my map afterwards so frustrating

I've been attempting this shit for like 6 months and just cannot get lucky. I have every layout of every ship except crystal :\
StewieSwan I feel you. I reset all of my data when Advanced Edition released and I have only managed to get the crystal crew member once. ONCE. And the Rock Homeworlds don't show up (and of course I haven't unlocked the rock ship either)
Bro I've had TWO crystal guys on my ship at the same time on more than one occasion and still couldn't get it. The game hates me :-/

i thing i have very high luck because iv geted to the pod in my engi cruiser and maybe finded even ornament but i didnt haved a zoltan :(

@@poneoulaaka my guy. That comment is a 6 years old comment. I unlocked the shop afterwards anyway. The blue one is the best ship in the game in my opinion. Gosh I miss this game :)

Yeah RNG can be a pain. Honestly, I have not been able to unlock the Crystal Ship since I reset my data after AE dropped. I think I've only gotten the Damaged Stasis Pod twice. Just bad luck.

I got really depressed after one playthrough... Found the stasis pod, got the crystal teammate, ship blew up because of ai ship with missiles.
Honestly, I just won with all type b's to get it because it would probably take longer on the quest
I have just randomly got The Bravais (Crystal A) on the first try with Rock A.
