Japan is just so considerate when it comes to their products and packaging! Little pieces of paper to discard your gum, vents on the corner of your ramen to drain the water out, plastic tab things on the bottom of containers to help you get the cellophane off, etc. Like why can’t it be like that everywhere. Just so thoughtful

That's indeed always super cool. However, on the other side, there seems to be a lot of wasterful overpackaging. Wish they could do the cool stuff while toning down on the overpackaging.

Because in countries like the US everything is made in other countries. It's all about money. In Japan they have a certain level of respect for the experience of products. They take pride in their work, and a product that is anything but exceptional is shameful. I'm sure this isn't how everything is there, but majority of how things are done there is through the pride in workmanship. I also want to say I'm not a Japanese expert, but from what I've observed in all areas of Japanese culture, whether you clean toilets to the CEO of a large corporation, you take pride in what you do and do it with respect and honor.

It disgusts me to physically touch most products sold in the US. I have some of my mother’s very old kitchen utensils and they were designed to feel good in the hand. Today products and packaging are increasingly hostile. Packaging is in fact outright hateful. Try being over 50 or 60 and opening a plastic clamshell or shrink wrapped bottle.

@@Pingu2010yes, the amount of plastic coming from Japan and Korea is atrocious. And before someone says that they are recycling so it's all good -- they do not. Some garbage is burned (hello pollution) and most of it goes into foreign countries and sometimes The Great Garbage Spot in the ocean. But their country is most certainly clean!
      Lies as always.

@@AA-cf4es yeah, the packaging was something i noticed when i visited a few years ago. not only was a huge amount of packaging plastic when it could have been paper, but also unnecessarily separated items inside a larger package, all wrapped in plastic. i was just layers upon layers. i live in sweden and its definitely very different compared to how we do it here

This is perfect when you're feeling "Kuchi-samishii". It's a Japanese expression, direct translation to English will be "Mouth feeling lonely". You know when you want to have something in your mouth but you're not particulaly hungry / not really craving sweet or savory. I heard the concept of "Kuchi-samishii" is only found in Japan - thus the invention of this candy & gum?

You might give Xylimelts a try. They're little xylitol tablets that are designed to attach themselves to your gums an help keep your mouth hydrated. They come in a few flavors (cinnamon, mint, and "slightly sweet") and they last for a few hours (usually 2-3 for me, but it depends on how much I'm talking or drinking.) They help me SO much with my medicine-related dry mouth. I tend to use them mostly at night or when I'm going to be talking a lot and can't drink (like when I'm teaching or working in a lab where beverages aren't safe.)

Saw the title of this video was was like…”huh? That’s weird”. Then watched. I’m a smoker. I smoke for the oral fixation. I have no problems with the nicotine withdrawal when I don’t smoke, but I don’t like candy that leaves a sugary film in my mouth and I don’t chew gum. I also will eat nonstop if I don’t smoke.
I want those lozenges! As soon as you described them I just wanted them so badly. I really think they would 100% satisfy my oral fixation. I’ve got to know where I can find them. They have to be cheaper than cigarettes and we know they’re better for me and everyone around me.

There was one where the teacher would bring in a different ice cream every day that was named for a different kid in the class. When all the other kids tried it, they loved it. But whenever each kid tried their own ice cream flavor, they said they couldn't taste anything. Then the teacher explained that each kid's flavor is what they taste when they taste nothing at all.

I have never heard anyone else refer to the Sanrio store smell and ramune candy 🍬 YES! Exactly you couldn’t have chosen a better likeness. Sanrio used to sell amazing gum with each flavor wrapped in wrappers decorated with different characters like Hello Kitty, My Melody, and Kero Kero-pi as well many others. My favorite was a pastel blue-green gum that tasted just like the store smells. The writing on the label was in (Kanji?) foreign (to me) characters and I was an English child, who only recognized it by the Sanrio character on the pack but, couldn’t translate the characters of the actual flavor. For years, I searched for that flavor. I was this old (44) before my fourteen-year-old son bought me a bottle of original flavor ramune, suspecting it was the same as my long lost flavor. As soon as the little marble popped into the glass bottle, the effervescence of carbonation tickled my nose and I was transported back in time to my childhood bedroom, Sanrio friends and the most enormous pastel aqua bubble I ever blew!
Now... wait - what flavor is ramune, exactly?! Hmm 🧐
lol idk but it’s yum 😋

I've never been in a Sanrio store, but you mentioned the smell of a Sanrio store and I feel like I know what you mean anyway. My sister loved Hello Kitty when we were young. Those flat erasers with perfect 90 degree edges. Shiny but dull, like a satin finish. Not so good at erasing, but you don't want to use them for erasing anyway. You just want to have them. Just picturing them, I think I can smell them again. They didn't smell like our pink or orange erasers. They smelled like a mixture of faint perfume and some kind of rubber, but all very subtle. You did get the sense you could eat it if you had to.

European studies have shown mixed results as to which (diet vs sugary) are worse in the long run. It looks like it doesn’t make any difference for type one, but in type 2 diabetes or insulin resistance, the diet seems to be worse.
I just looked it up, and the latest studies show that in addition to insulin spikes, diet drinks may also affect the gut microbiome, further affecting nutritional uptake, which can exacerbate the whole problem.
