I left for BMT on a Sunday and stayed at a Holiday Inn that night and got up Monday morning early and the Meps guys took us across the street and got us Breakfast and then we went back to the Hotel. Then we loaded up on a bus and went onto the Army Ft. and we checked in and signed lots of documents and gathered up and got on a bus and went to the Airport and waited to get on our plane. We were told that our friends and family could come over and be with us until it was time to get on the plane to go to Lackland. Around 7pm we were called to board the flight and we said our goodbyes and got on the plane and off to Lackland we went.
I think I would be nervous so I'm sure this will help new recruits feel less anxious. Imagine, Trouble sleeping the night before - Getting up early - Set five alarm clocks - Being on time - Getting shouted at - Prison type bus - Paperwork. It's a lot to take on but you seemed to have the right approach and making new friends is good and helps. I guess the men don't mind being supplied underwear? Thanks for uploading - Liked.
This really helped me get the basic understating of the shipping process. I leave tomorrow (Monday) to go to the hotel, then as you stated. Tuesday I'll be shipped off to BMT. Thank you again.
I went to Lackland in May of 91, (guess those would be considered the Alcatraz dorms now?). The first week or so were the worst, but as time went by and we started understanding what was expected of us-and doing it-the TIs do ease up somewhat. Farther along they’d hang out in the day room with us and answer questions, usually about the “real Air Force” after basic. I recall one guy asking about the TIs yelling and carrying on all the time, and if they were always like that. I can still hear (Ssgt Boyd) trying not to crack up: “No! We’re not always like that! We CAN’T be- we’ve got families we have to go home to.” Followed quickly by “Now, Sgt Morton- he IS like that. That’s why he ain’t got no friends.”😂😂 But the time flies by quicker than you think, and near the end I remember thinking “it really wasn’t that bad!” To echo what many have said, get in the best shape you can BEFORE you go. And when you do go… strongly advise not wearing anything with any sayings, band names, etc. you WILL likely become a target! Had a kid wearing an AC DC t-shirt. The guys in in processing had a field day with this kid-before any TIs ever saw him. AC/DC? Who’s that Rock group sir! What do they sing? I don’t know sir! Bull! You’re wearing the shirt! They tried to get him to sing Back in Black, but when that failed he ended up singing “ 18:58 row row row your boat.” 😂 good times.
Hee! Fabulous video--Box nasties! Screaming bed and locker number! Cold shower! Hilarious! I went through BMT in 1980 and then retired in 2005. After that, I had a career as a high school English teacher, and since I always had a lot of AF stuff in my room, some of my students would ask about my service and what going in might be like for them. I always told them that if they were the right kind of person, they could make it work, BUT they should first understand exactly what they're signing up for and be ready to follow directions! Hi I just wanted to say that I love your channel! It’s super helpful because I’m currently a senior in high school strongly considering to enlist in the Air Force. I’m going to be talking to a recruiter soon and I was wondering if you could share some tips before going to talk to a recruiter. Thank you. :)
I'm so glad it's helping! Some tips I have before talking to a recruiter are to do your own research with jobs in the Air Force, sometimes they may talk a job up when in reality it's not a good one.

🤣😂🤣😂I left on a Friday and got there on a Saturday. Around midnight. On my birthday. Of course 1989 for me. Long time ago. I flew on a small jet to Lackland. I am one of the few medaled basic training medal owners you will know. 10 percent of all ever get that. It has changed. No one saw me off. Or there when I graduated. I remember going to a prison bus, at Lackland, then going to a food station. I still don't know what they called it. Your timeline and experience is great. We didn't have phones in my day. I loved band. We played in different towns every week. No PT. Name and last 4 ss for me. On almost everything. I was in band. Marching easy. I refused to be a T.I. By their request. You had a way different experience than I. 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂 My sister flight T.I. wanted to go on a date. I wasn't allowed but she was all about fixing that. I declined. I was more about being an Civil Engineer. I do international logisitics now. Also a disabled veteran. I have way more than I need. I didn't just beat basic training, I made my mark. But later, my programs changed how the USAF has operated. I am literally, the only person, on Earth, that can explain all that happened, and how. For example, irrigation trucks, built in Indiana, my home state, made for new deocong fluid. Half potassium acetate and water. 80.00 a gallon then. I had to move it, by rail, to Alaska. We had to void alcohol tanks(we used on runways) to store the new fluid. Story short, it works, and even used on streets today. I have done lots more than that. In my time in USAF. 🙂
The morning that I left for BMT, my southwest Airlines airplane sucked up a tarp into the number one engine. We had to make an emergency landing and wait for another plane. I got to Lackland Air Force Base about 3 AM that day.
Well here I am the day before my training. Hehe can’t wait. The anticipation of waiting has been killing me. Also because of COVID I did not have my final MEPs visit.

MEPS, and your BMT date... Let me solve your most puzzling question... Why do I have to wait to get into BMT. Answer is simple. Your job, all jobs have a tech school. Tech schools do not run year around. Some might only start every 6 months. The Air Force will not rush you through BMT, then have you sit and wait 2-3 months for your tech schools to start. Its all about timing. MORE IMORTANT... BMT start date, do yourself a favor, go in the fall or winter, Texas summers are hot and humid. I went in Oct 8... PERFECT WEATHER... BEFORE YOU GO... Start running a mile in the morning and a mile in the afternoon. 3 sets of sit up and pushups, twice a day. One thing you were never told, USAF BMT is 60% or more, in the classroom.

Btw jointing the Air Force was the best decision of my life. Lifetime benefits through the VA after and I got 2 degrees for free.
Shit. I was nervous/excited when I left for basic 20 years ago. I couldn't eat at all! We were screamed/cussed at when we got to our squadron. It's all a blur now.

Why does the band flight suck? Just curious, used to play band (saxophone) in middle school and currently play guitar everyday 😂 been tryna see what job I’d want for Air Force or navy
The clothes you wear to basic don’t matter at all. Smartest choice tho is plain solid dark colors. Grey, black. I would say go in some workout shorts if shorts is what you’ll be in. I leave for basic tomorrow and that’s what I’m showing up in.
So I live in Killeen by fort hood abd I’m about 2 hours from San Antonio. Would I still need to do the hotel? I’m assuming I won’t need to take a plane
Thank you for the helpful video! Did anyone in your flight use glasses/ contact lenses? Did they wear there contacts the first day at BMT? Sorry if this is a dumb/obvious question but I wear contacts and am not sure if it would be wise to wear them on the first day to BMT :)
You're welcome! My fiancé wears glasses and he told me that you need to bring a pair of glasses with you to BMT. You are not allowed to wear contacts so you have to wear your own personal glasses until you get issued glasses by the air force the first or second week.
@@MikaylaRoseDaly ok! Will do, thank you for taking the time to answer my question ☺️ I’m really scared to leave for BMT, I’ve been in DEP for five months now waiting on a job and your videos have helped me feel less anxious and more excited for the experience !
No one in the Air Force skips DEP. This video only describes her ship date. We swear in twice, at the MEPS for AF. Once for DEP, and again for Active Duty or Reserves when you’re shipping out.
you go to MEPS twice. You go 1st for the initial ASVAB testing and medical evaluation and that is where you swear in for the first time and sign your contract to begin your time in service (you don't get paid yet, but technically whether you sign a 4 or 6 year active contact, you have a total of 8 years that you are serving, but the remaining years are called Inactive reserves). Then you go back to your recruiters office after and sign your paper to begin your Delayed Entry Program. You will be in DEP until you get your job and ship date. Then when you go to ship out to BMT, you go back to MEPS for the 2nd time. You will stay in a hotel, then go to MEPS the next morning and ship out that day to BMT. I am at the beginning of my process now, so I'm currently in DEP waiting for my job and ship date
Before BMT. I was working out in the gym a lot strength training a lot, probably about 6 hours a week. I would run at a minimum once a week either 3 or 6 miles.
That’s definitely not necessary to do all that though, I was just really into fitness at that time in my life. As long as you can jog 30 minutes without walking, and do about 20 push-ups and 30 sit-ups you’ll be solid. And you’ll improve when you’re there.
When I went through BMT, we had laundry bags that hung from the foot rail of our bunks. If you are smart, you learn to live out of your laundry bag so that you ALWAYS have at least one every uniform inspection ready.
I was on laundry crew. I loved it. You got to be unsupervised for hours and had girls to chat with. Besides, being in charge of laundry is a great way to get even with people whom you don’t like!
I met a girl in BMT at an Air National Guard meeting. She was home sick as hell and having a hard time emotionally. I assured her that none of us WANT to be at BMT, that we just hide it better than her. She wrote me a letter a few days later. My MTI was PISSED when he threw me her letter. I still remember him asking me, “who the F*CK is Airman Martin?” She and I wrote each other daily. After we both went to a different tech school, we dated about a year. You meet people is the strangest ways sometimes!
Our bus driver was also chill; he was talking to us over the intercom and just thanking us for our service 😂
I'm just starting this video, but already wanted to say thank you! I don't feel like there are many videos explaining the actual ship out day!
The one thing I dread is the waiting for training to start. I don’t care about the harassment, just the waiting kills me 😫
I’m waiting for navy basic next week (in New Zealand ) and the last week of waiting and next week is killing me! I just want to get there

What day in April do you ship?? I ship in April too! Lol
So does everyone have to go to the hotel? even if your already live in San Antonio?
So u went from MEPS straight to BMT? No DEP?
I question I ALWAYS had was what do people take in their bags when they go the bmt
Your recruiter gives you a list of required items you have to purchase and bring with you
Thanks for the advice mama
How often where you running and doing sit-ups and push ups before going to Bmt?
@@MikaylaRoseDaly ok sweet that’s really good to know!!!! I appreciate you and the videos you make! Definitely make an impact
How is your daily class? Is there a lot of math?
There's no math at all, it's class about the Air Force and how to be an Airman.
@@MikaylaRoseDaly thank you!
Math?!! Lol. It’s not high school.
Do you recommend a suitcase or a duffel bag?
something that’s gonna fit all ur stuff and fits in ur overhead in the plane
I’d recommend a duffle bag. Since you’ll have to carry the suitcase if you brought that instead
Wait what happens with your dirty laundry?
When I went through BMT, we had laundry bags that hung from the foot rail of our bunks. If you are smart, you learn to live out of your laundry bag so that you ALWAYS have at least one every uniform inspection ready.
I’m about to ship out. What Bmt jobs would you recommend and what Bmt jobs would you steer clear of ?
Steer clear of chow runner , laundry, and latrine. Easiest jobs are sweepers, and hallway crew
I was on laundry crew. I loved it. You got to be unsupervised for hours and had girls to chat with. Besides, being in charge of laundry is a great way to get even with people whom you don’t like!
Hotel? Things have changed.
Is it dizzy at all because I get motion sickness 🥲
Wait you get to go home for Christmas if your there during Christmas ?
In tech school you get to go home for Christmas, not basic training,
how many shots did you get in basic? i don't do well with needles and i know you get a good amount🥲
I had a lot of my vaccines prior so I didn't need that many, maybe like 5 or 6
@@MikaylaRoseDaly should you bring your vaccinations history with you so they know what shots you need?
@@JoeMama-le7lw No, they will draw blood and check it for anti-bodies. They shots you are missing, you will get.
Can you join with your friends
i feel like itd be funny to say i play the kazzoo when they asked 12:25
did they check your weight again?
yes
How do I know where to go after the plane lands?
You’ll be with a group, there’ll be someone to direct you where to go
Haha. Almost all military service comprises of prodigious waiting :)
04/23/24
Do u need to take the asvab to get into usafa
Yes.
You will take the AFOQT (Air Force Officers Qualifying Test) instead of the ASVAB.
good info,cute dimples
is there a bathroom on the bus????
you look like annie leblance
How does dating work
Who dates in situations like this???!
