@WolfHack I don't mean it as "gaming hasn't been art" it's still art. I'm saying this will hopefully be a new renaissance for artistic games such as Okami- where the game is treated entirely as an art piece and not just some piece for a profit. Like Red Dead 2 or God of War. Games that make you question not just it's stories, but your real life. get you thinking about everything like what matters most to you. Gaming has shifted too far into the "competitive gaming" like Cod has and no longer focuses on what made early gaming great. Sure the older cods had multiplayer with heavy competitive nature. But the story modes had a substance that's been lost for a while, making you truly feel as though you were in those boots. This is also in no way saying any of the new games are bad cause of this- but it is depressing to see gaming practically turn into a business instead an escape
@@kevinmoore2474 honestly true on how gaming has shifted towards competitive gaming which hurt projects meant for single player. I see myself as a vg enjoyer in the same sense as cinephiles are to film buffs, I have no desire to to become pro, just good enough to beat a game.

18 years. I never once thought that there would be a sequel. I couldn't imagine how there would be a sequel. Yet here it is. The Okami from 2006 was never just a game, it was an experience that bonded with many who have played it to an emotional level. It was a story that wasn't just told nor shown, it was a story that was felt. Its unique world building and amazing characters made the whole experience feel alive and real. I'm sure many can relate when I say that this game is indescribably special. Thank you Hideki Kamiya for the experience you made us felt, even more so now for the experience you have yet to show us. @Cutepie2244 Oh, thank you for letting me know. I wasn't aware of that. Yeah I looked it up and you're right. Even though Okamiden was released in 2011, I really didn't think that a sequel would be possible. The story felt complete, though I can definitely imagine how they could still expand it. I'm just really grateful now that we're finally getting a sequel for this masterpiece. Can't wait!
@@fireflocs ya, but I’m talking about a different game, the one they never finished which was this one, since I think they canceled it around 2017, then again around 2020 when the pandemic started, they called it okami 2 and hinted about it a couple times
@fireflocs Oh I do. I know about Okamiden, but that was more about Chibiterasu's own story. I guess by sequel, I mean to say that it is a sequel to Ammy's story.

Okami was the game that my brother and I grew up with, and the game that gave me my username. So to see this series that was part of my childhood come back makes this the happiest day of my life.
After all these years, I can't even believe it. This game was part of my childhood and adolescence, one of the greatest games of my life, I'm speechless...
Okami is my favorite game of all time. It is one of the most important pieces of art that I've ever experienced. I had long since given up hope on a sequel, even with Kamiya expressing a desire to make one, if it weren't for him working at Platinum. Even when he left Platinum I figured he'd go onto something else. It's unbelievable that I'm actually here, seeing it for real. I'll wait however long I must for your next return, Okami Amaterasu.
I have been waiting so long for this. What a great end of the year announcement. "Developed by Hideki Kamiya's newly founded studio CLOVERS." I really wanted the sequel to be a Capcom collab with the old team and the ship had sailed since the talks with Platinum. A project with a new Clover with Kamiya back is so good!
Maybe I'm hoping too hard, but considering the studio name is CLOVERS I want to believe Capcom is having a change of heart and want to give Kamiya reign to make unique games again. Basically I'm hoping that if this is successful we get a new Viewtiful Joe and a new God Hand.
I have never played Okami, and know next to nothing about it, and yet this still brought me nearly to tears. Idk what it is, but there's just so much life here. What a way to end the year!
literally the best game on PS2. All these dreamy memories i had with this game in my childhood, such a masterpiece. Almost 20 years, you finally return. remembering about the good old times i had when playing the PS2 Okami back in 2006 as a kid, still feel like a dream, i hope they can bring back that magical feeling in this sequel.
Okami was one of the games that really got me into wider Japanese culture, so it holds a very special place in my pumping bloodsack of a heart. That original game is still a masterpiece despite some flaws, but there was so much more the original studio could have done with a sequel as well, so I'm glad we're finally getting a follow-up all these years later at least from some of the original creators!
@AsherReigns if you think about it the episodes were essentially just DLC so if we go by base game release (2004) then its been 20 years since Half Life 2. This doesn't mean im not hype for Okami 2.
Just when I thought nothing could top new Elden Ring announcement, they drop this... I was shaking and crying the tears of joy! I did not think the day would ever come... It's been 18 years of wait... Ammy is back!
I've dreamed of this very moment. My favorite game of all time. I'm not emotionally ready, but I'm here for all the beauty and wonder that's going to be injected into my very soul once this releases. Much love for Okami, and yes, Okamiden as well.
Genuinely unbelievable to see my favorite game of all time finally get a true sequel. Just finished a 100% of Okami HD(on PS5)a few days ago. Crazy how things happen sometimes.
I quickly noticed it was Okami and started bawling because I love this game so much, played it on every platform and I'm excited for a sequel. I will drop money if they make a collectors edition.
The original Okami is one of my favorite games of all time. I played it through so many times I lost count, the last number I remember was 11 times and that was years ago. I play through it usually once a year as this game holds a lot of sentimental value to me. This was my comfort game and one I genuinely cherish to this day, because my cousin got me this game during a difficult time during my childhood where I felt alone and like no one listened to me. I only ever briefly mentioned this game once to him and he remembered months later and got it for me. It helped me to remember that people do listen and care. Of course now I'm an adult and in a much better headspace now but its the sentiment that makes this game stand out so much lol.

This enough to make a 30++ years old man cries 😭
I know that feeling, man. It's okay for men to cry as there's absolutely nothing necessarily wrong with crying, especially for men. 😢

The era of games being a medium for art has returned boys
Can games finally get their post-Spider-Verse era like animation has?
This is a sign of good times to come
What do you mean? Did you leave our reality for a bit?

How many times have you played through Okamiden?
@@fireflocs honestly i tried once but didn't finish through cause they said it wasn't canon, but now that they're announcing an official sequel i wonder if i should play it. Do u recommend it?
Thank you so so much!
I mean I knew it might happen because before the pandemic I remember they were talking about it then an argument happened and they canceled it, then tried again but because of the pandemic they canceled it, I'm so happy they doing it again. (not too sure if this is true because it been awhile but think that might pop up if you search it)
Did you forget there already was a sequel?
Thank you Capcom, today I almost cried knowing about it , I couldn't think after so many years to see again Amaterasu in a new adventure. I still jealously keep the PS2 copy of the game as a personal treasure, thank you so much for this news.

"Developed by Hideki Kamiya's newly founded studio CLOVERS."
I really wanted the sequel to be a Capcom collab with the old team and the ship had sailed since the talks with Platinum.

Okami fans have been waiting longer for a sequel than Half Life 3. It's only fair.
