It really is one of the greatest violin plays of all time. I still come back to this exact play of it over and over just to feel things you can't feel in other pieces or through other violinists. At least that is for me. Whoever wrote this piece is a genius.
This particular version was composed by David Downes. There are lots of other variations of the tune . They are all based on the song ""The Last Rose of Summer" written by Thomas Moore in 1805 to a traditional irish melody called "Aisling an Óigfhear", or "The Young Man's Dream".
I am so glad this air was preserved. it is one of the most beautiful pieces she has ever done. It seldom fails to get me teary eyed. She is delightful in he fast airs but simply breathtaking in the slow ones.
I love Mairead, she is an incredible violinist. So graceful, fun and bubbly. She's an irreplaceable member of CW to me, and even though she's decided to take a break from CW, I hope she comes back one day.
Was so blessed to have been there for that. And she did it twice both nights of the recording. Perhaps the finest slow air she has ever done and she has done many lovely ones.
Mairead does an amazing performance of this song. Like reffer0877 said, I wish it was longer too. She plays Irish folk music to classics like this one without a skip. Absolutely beautiful.
The first few bars on the guitar sound like a slow version of Nil s’en la Edit: I love the fact that this is a song that can be enjoyed by people from so many different countries and cultures. Music speaks every language, it has no borders!
'Supoib' The melancholy in those notes is so deep. Really pulls you in. ....and then it spits you out so quickly!!! Could y'all please explore the great possibilities inherent in this enchanting tune in long form...possibly for Mairead's next release. PLEASE!!!!!
@Ian303 I thought so too! During IOH it was a piece in between Last Rose of Summer and Nella Fantasia. So that's why I thought it was Last Rose Fantasia
@gaeilge101 there was a part of this song that resemble the last rose of summer, its like halfway through the song, you can hear it "it's the last rose of summer"
It has an E string. It's a violin. That's not really a "lame question", i understand why you're confused. She said in an interview a little while back that her violin is unique because it was made a little longer so the sound is a little different from other violins.
@gaeilge1O1 actually yes David Downes made this song thinking of The Last Rose Of Summer, I have the honour to know him and the girls :) so I think that @lockonOO was right :) but it's "Tis the last rose of summer" haha however just play it on 1:34 and you may recognize it if you know the song.
@simeon2000 Tickets were actually free. Everyone who is on their emailing list received an email about tickets to this concert. It was free to those who would be able to make the trip to Ireland. Luckily, I was going to be in France at the time so I reserved a ticket for myself. It was totally worth it. My face shows up a couple of times throughout the show :)
Note that this melody is a fantasia on "The Last Rose Of Summer", which is in the "A New Journey" concert. Caution: not a good song to listen to if you're feeling suicidal.
I just can't stand it, she is so cute so beautiful and so lovely and talented that if I cannot have her I want to never see her again because I cannot stand these emotions.
isn't it the "LAST" rose of summer? and why is embedding disabled? disabled embedding means i have to download the video =) so you lose, whereas enabling embedding makes everyone win...
I don't know what it is about the beauty of this song, but I always, always, *always* find myself tearing up to this... =) Absolutely beautiful, Mairead!! I can't think of another word to describe it! =)
@gaeilge1O1 If you know them ask them about Mark Petellier, I'm sure they will remember me, specially Chlöe; however I talked with David specially about this song wich made me cry... and he told me that he "started" composing it thinking about The Last Rose Of Summer, that's ia really special piece for him. I know them, and I don't really care if people believe me or not.
She's pretty buff all over. Just watch some of her other solos, where she jumps out of classical violin mode into Warp-speed fiddle. It takes an athlete to dance like that. Unless, of course, she really is using Elven magic.
+REGNIEZ Matthieu Rikuo Nope, not playback....LIVE! I have heard her play this piece from the front row and if anything, live, it was at least as good (if not better) than this performance is.
If a man loves music, this is the stuff it is made of. Lisa is truly a work of beauty in voice spirit and the imago dei.
I believe this lady and the original line-up of Celtic Woman were the best group of female performers ever assembled!

No matter how many times I hear this, I get goosebumps...so haunting and so beautiful!
I love Mairead, she is an incredible violinist. So graceful, fun and bubbly. She's an irreplaceable member of CW to me, and even though she's decided to take a break from CW, I hope she comes back one day.

I love this piece. simple yet elegant
Possibly the most beautiful song I ever heard.
I have no words to convey what I feel from this melody!
The violinist is beautiful, and her music's so touching!

On slow airs like this she seems to be caressing the music from the violin.

So beautiful to listening to and I love it
she comes out on high heel tippy toes and just blows you away! how does she do it?
All these ladies are beautiful, but I think the 'fiddler' is the prettiest????
+Mike Rogers I think she is Daoine Sidhe, only thing that makes sense.
Her name is Maireid ( MARADE ) Neisbit
She is such a beautiful creature. I love listening to her play, and watching her perform. She is my favorite..
The first few bars on the guitar sound like a slow version of Nil s’en la
Edit: I love the fact that this is a song that can be enjoyed by people from so many different countries and cultures. Music speaks every language, it has no borders!
Kathy Swales
nothing beats seeing them live.

she 'talks' by violin....amazing!

the song is almost as beautiful as she is :)
Beautiful song :')
amazing
I ♥ This song *-*
Saw a billboard for this in my town very interested in going

i never knew that! do you know where you found that out? thats very interesting.
Note that this melody is a fantasia on "The Last Rose Of Summer", which is in the "A New Journey" concert. Caution: not a good song to listen to if you're feeling suicidal.
Reminds me of the Lark Ascending by Ralph Vaughan Williams.
Well said!
Should this be The LAST Rose Fantasia? I definitely hear strains from The Last Rose of Summer here...
WOW
I just can't stand it, she is so cute so beautiful and so lovely and talented that if I cannot have her I want to never see her again because I cannot stand these emotions.

@IntoTheMystical OMG! She's like the Chuck Norris of fiddle players!
Who plays violin?
How in the world is it possible for someone, let alone 83 people to give this a thumbs down?
is there any music she does not do beautifuly?
She's pretty buff all over. Just watch some of her other solos, where she jumps out of classical violin mode into Warp-speed fiddle. It takes an athlete to dance like that. Unless, of course, she really is using Elven magic.
@reffer0877 agreed! I just ache when I hear it
If anybody can help me figure out the notes, rhythm, and key signature... i would greatly appreaciate it
I want her dress
I'd love to see her do a duet with Charlie Daniels -
You can really see how buff a violinist's arm can get from bowing - about 2:10 through
5 stars to Misraid,
-5 stars to poster for disabling embedding, wanted to share this on facebook. :(
I agree with @reffer0877
I thought it was called The "Last" Rose Fantasia
Sorry, there's just one of her and I claim her.
Now, if she just new how wonderful and handsome I am...
10 cats stepped on the wrong part of the keyboard.
its a violin!
God forbid they ever use this song in one of the Twilight movies..
Mairead,Lindsey, & The Harp Twins.......maybe one day...???!!! ;-) Make a wich...!! ;-)
Ya lucky barstid! I'd have sold a lung for a good seat at Powerscourt or Slane Castle.
You know what? You are right. She's WAY better than Chuck Norris! BA-ZING! lol
@angeldemon2121 I guess every single member of CW will rather have 6 dislikes than 6 dead bodies...
Am I the only one who has a braingasm at 1:15?
Mc MGMASSM MJTJJD Guire The Irish King of Kings hated by all America
actually, 14 JAJAJA XD
Playback ...
+REGNIEZ Matthieu Rikuo Nope, not playback....LIVE! I have heard her play this piece from the front row and if anything, live, it was at least as good (if not better) than this performance is.
No... just no. I know she is talented and excellent, but she is by no means the Chuck Norris of violinists.
