- Suave Tom Cruise, 60, gives thumbs up as he takes the private plane from Top Gun: Maverick for a spin in Florida. Tom, 60, was seen guiding his aircraft out of Naples Airport in Florida. He was in control of his own P-51 Mustang.
The fighter bombers were used during World War Two, although Tom’s is believed to have been built in 1946. The actor used the plane in last year’s hit movie Top Gun: Maverick. #tomcruise #topgun

I'm so glad that they used this P-51 mustang in the filming of Top Gun 2.

Love the P-51. He is a good one to own one because he appreciates the aircraft.
The plane was built in 1944 as designated by a “4” being the first digit in its serial number on the tail. It’s actually an F6K model which is a photo reconnaissance version of the P51 and less than 200 of these variants were built. Built in Dallas, Tx. Tom has owned it since about 2001
For some reason I thought it was a former penske racing bird
Also why it has two seats available.
Classic P-51D Mustang
Most '51's out there aren't painted in their original markings, so the serial number may not be for that particular aircraft.
@@thatguy7085 It doesn't have two seats because it was a recon version. They had one seat and were fully armed. Two seater Mustangs are all post war conversions.

I started taking flying lessons 5 days after I saw the first Top Gun... in a theater. I was hooked.
Gay
@Circa interesting anecdote. With my 51, we subsidized almost a third of the annual costs by brokering model shoots, movie scenes and private photo ops with it. It appeared in a few WW2 movies.
@@adamenstrom There is no need to admit you are gay here Adam. There are help groups for you but this isnt one of them.

Ride on Tom....great there are people around who can look after and keep these stunning aircraft alive for us all to see.
Your the man Tom.
Umm, that’s not just a private plane, that’s a $4 million p-51 mustang. One of the most beautiful machines ever built.
My 6 foot wingspan, Radio Control P-51 Mustang is called Blondie. Love that plane. Cadillac of the Sky. Thumbs up Tom Cruise.
Dude has a P-51...I didn't care for him early in his career but now anything he is in I am paying a ticket to see....he knocked it out of the park in both Reacher movies and Top gun Maverick was one of the best films I have ever seen.
Huh Some of his best are early in his career. Color of money, Rainman, born on the 4th, Vanilla sky etc. Also, mission impossible series? I thought the Reacher movies were actually his weakest ones.
@@buzzfunk Yeah, he just wasn't Reacher.
This plane used to be named “Kiss Me Kate” It was painted on both sides of the engine cowling. I guess we know why it’s not named that anymore.
Oh SNAP!
Religion in his case or cheating/lack of integrity in most cases cause most divorces in the good ole USA.
I worked at the Scottsdale Airpark in 2000. One day, a gorgeous P-51 taxied onto my ramp with 2 occupants sitting in tandem in matching, royal blue flight suits with their names embroidered in gold on their chests. Frank and Betty Borman. Nicest folks. I talked with them for quite a while as they filled out a fuel request at our front desk. The nose and spinner were a matching royal blue. I've had the good fortune of meeting two Apollo astronauts, thanks to Frank. Neil Armstrong was the other...he even signed my first pilot logbook back in 1993.
When I grow up, I want to be just like Tom Cruise; I don't want to be an actor; I want to get paid like an actor for doing my everyday superhero hobbies.

At the end of the Maverick movie when Tom is flying in the mountains with Jennifer Connelly, I was walking down the steps at the theater and missed the last step, fell to my knees, skinned the hell out of them twisted my ankle and embarrassed the heck out of myself all because of the amazing beauty of this plane.
Ok, then. Thanks for sharing. Did your mommy put band-aids on your knees, and give you cookies and milk when you got home?
It's always the step you don't see! Hate that when you're feeling real good, then shearing pain happens!
🤣 LOL. Well I'll bet you haven't forgotten to open the car door for your first date as a new prospect and another man steps up to the curb to open the door for her. Now THAT is embarrassment! And no, we did not last.
You left the theater before the final credit rolled by?
Ok, maybe it’s just me but I have the same name as a prominent stuntman/director so I sit through the credits. Sometimes there I go, up the screen. It’s kinda cool to see.

Pretty bad ass to own and fly a P51 Mustang! Cruise is really living the dream, congrats to him!
Best wishes to Tom Cruise, a fellow aviator. Superbly maintained P.51. He is also a helicopter pilot.
Another booster seat...hehe
Was this about him or just about you bragging you can fly planes?

Flying to Scientology headquarters for an important meeting.
Ah.. But where is TC going?
Good for him, if I had the resources I would too.
Why do liberals always say resources when what they're really saying is Money 💰
You broke!
One of the advantages of money is that you can support almost any hobby you can think of, covering investment, education, training, Infrastructure, Maintenance, etc. i.e. photography - equipment and training, travel; marksmanship - menberships, firearms, ammunition, etc.
But, Cruise is one of the people who has 'earned his money'. That's the most satisfying way.
Yea, making 20 million for 6 months work!. I got no problem with getting paid...but 20 million? All of us have worked just as hard...but don't have 20 million.
Talk about living the dream ... what a beautiful plane. Kudos.

From what I have read, TC is quite an accomplished pilot, also did much of the flying in his movies like "AMERICAN MADE", "TOP GUN", and his "MISSION IMPOSSIBLE" movies.
Not top gun
Yeah and I'm the Pope too! This over paid clown has no idea the amount of training and continual training military pilots receive in order to fly these planes and react to changing conditions and unanticipated emergencies. My father, a Naval Aviator would say, "he has just enough hours in that plane to fly his ass into a situation from which he can't recover".
@@Nightmare-kg7xd he did fly the p51 in top gun
@@Nightmare-kg7xd Yeah he flew the exact plane you see in the video in the new Top Gun film.
With Mission Impossible, he learned how to fly helicopters in 3 months to get his license, just so he can film that scene with him literally hanging and then hijacking the AS350 in mid air. He flew stunts that even most veteran pilots would never even attempt. People can say what they want about Cruise, but that man is DEDICATED and also has a genuine love for aviation.
I didn't know he owned one. Beautiful P-51
Very interesting to see Steve Hinton Jr. digging around the cockpit with Cruise.
tom is the only P-51 pilot that has an added step 12 in the start-up: "Check Hair"
Good one
I got the RC version of that P51 and it flies fantastic lol
As the previous owner/pilot of Little-Ike, I can truly relate to the exhilaration that Cruise feels each time he takes this 51 to flight. No mind the insane operating costs, the extensive maintenance requirements … the joy of flying one of these is over the top.
Tom, keep that rudder pushed on departure and don’t forget those control checks. Keep the blue on top, that is only if you want or on top of a roll.
Yes, aerobatics and formation, major fun.......deliberately messing up a hammerhead and falling backwards! Breathtaking; MUST believe in your a/c. I built/flew aerobat, C-IAVW. Ex RAFVR.
What was the typical running costs? I've spoken to some warbird operators and it's not for the faint hearted....
@@markzzzz741 Aeroplanes expensive; worse than yachts! My brother flies a RV8, 200mph cruise, aerobatic, glass cockpit, 200HP........one wing was damaged and cost $50,000 to fix.
In the RAF, we sometimes flew Meteors - fuel alone several $000s, let alone maintenance.......one time during a UK sugar strike, sent a Meteor to Dublin and packed 200lbs sugar in the gun bay! Strawberry tart with double Devon cream that night. My steward whispering, "There's more, sir.'
@@markzzzz741 For the P51 in immaculate mechanical condition, the hourly operating costs plus reserves ranges from $1900 to $2700 per hour. The costs are in line with most executive jets in overall expense. The cost of failed mechanicals is extremely high due to supply, or fabrication. An engine overhaul would pay for most middle class homes in desirable areas.

Tom Cruise owns a P51 Mustang! That's incredible!
"The fighter bombers" The P in P-51 means "pursuit", while they sometimes dropped small bombs they weren't considered "bombers" the P-51's were for chasing away, (or shooting down) other attacking enemy aircraft, essentially keeping the enemy away from the bombers. T.C. prides himself on being the real deal, i give him kudos on that.
Wrong
Strada is absolutely correct. The P-51 Mustang served as a 'fighter escort' over Germany, The all black army airforce unit 'Red-Tails' saved many american bomber and there crews over Germany in 1944-1945. They would drop their belly or wing flue tanks when the enemy showed up and have a real go at itl. Certainly not a movie stunt or recreational flying!

Why wouldn’t he wear a Parachute while flying this plane. They make them now where there less bulky and he can have the one that is if front and not on your back. If I were him I would want that option to get out if that was the only way to survive. And wear a flight suit for Christ sake, your Tom Cruze 😂😂
It looks like he is wearing a parachute to me.
Probably has a seat pack chute in the plane, straps it on when he secures the seat belt and harness.
Daaaaaaaaaaamn. There's only a handful of these in flyable condition left in the world. Seriously one of the most powerful single-engine turboprop planes ever.
Hope he's not wild and crazy in this, because as that guy proved in Reno a decade ago, you could lose control of one of these and plow it into the ground if you have a brain fart for even a second.
Not a Turboprob, it has a 12 cylinder supercharged Packard Merlin (Rolls Royce Designed) Turboprop has no cylinders, and is literally a turbojet spinning a propellor rather than using the thrust

Does it need some sort of octane additive? She wasn’t designed for 100LL…..
Im watching this video and thinking... wait, he uses Dave Clarks and not A20 headsets? Baller and old skool.

A number of good crew to make sure this plane is maintained so it doesn't fall out the sky.

@@zigman8550 I used to see him fly here in Everett WA at Paul Allen's Flying Heritage Collection. Beautiful warbirds in flying condition. Good on you Tom. If I had the well earned success you've had, I own one too! A Bearcat would have been more fitting in Top Gun Maverick, but what the heck, this plane is perfect for Tom!!
Why is this so fascinating pilots do this all the time. A lot of people have pilot licenses.
Have you ever tried whispering something to an old pilot?
Back in 2005 while in the back seat of Mr. Cruise's "Kiss Me Kate" P-51 on the take-off roll at KBUR, piloted by M. Jackson, I briefly popped the Bose headset off to sample first hand the iconic roar of the Mustang. The noise was deafening; there was nothing in the racket I heard to compare to the aircraft's unforgettable engine-noise signature.
No high-tech noise-cancelling headsets were available in 1944 to Mustang pilots; all they had were passive ear protection, tight fitting ear cups not significantly better than modern foam in-ear plugs. Even in 1973 some student pilots were learning to fly in Cessnas using overhead cabin speakers and hand-held microphones to communicate.
No wonder some older pilots suffer hearing loss.
I took my lessons in a Cessna 152 back in 1978 .
No headphones...
Crazy loud and difficult to hear instructions.
I have something that Tom also has. I have the exact same plastic owl that is in the background on the wall of his hangar.
I love the fact he is using David Clarkes 13.4 and not some Bose headset like every other corporate YTuber.
