This remindes me of my grandmother who would be nearly 100 of she were still alive. I inherited her Sheet music of this song... And during this covid shut down and home school time, my sons video for sight words was playing this song! Oh so many memories. 😁 love you Grandma❤😘❤😘
THANK YOU for posting this. I searched for a video of someone playing Nola. This song always reminds me of my grandmother also. She would sit for hours playing this song on the piano in our home. She was born in 1900. My grandmother died in her 88th year. THANK YOU!!!
My father loved this song! He named me Nola 66 years ago and would play this from a record he had. Boy does this bring back memories! You play beautifully just like I remember.
it was rumored that my first piano teacher Lucy Valpy in Carmel Valley played that tune on Broadway back in the early 1900's. not sure if it's true but the song is familiar to me. Wonderful job playing it.... so many "Scott Joplin" components to that song.... thank you so much for the video .... nostalgic for me. (I am currently working jazz pianist/keyboardist in the San Francisco Bay Are. the tune just popped into my head - and I remembered it was called "Nola".
SAME! My mother just turned 87. She has severe dementia and is in a nursing home now, but I fondly remember her struggling to get good at this piece around the time I was in my teens. I must say, she was about 70% this good! Not bad mom!
Bravo! I love this song and you perform it so authentically. Makes me feel like I'm living in 1915--wish we had more of the music of that era available to us.
You do, on UA-cam - it's wonderful! Some recordings from that era - either actual discs, or piano-rolls (sometimes recorded by the original composers). There's one of the composer of this piece, Felix Arndt, playing it himself (though the player is set 84/78 too fast, but that can be fixed): ua-cam.com/video/vg18fo-EIj0/v-deo.html
@@G6JPG Thanks for your response, Cory--Ive found and listened to that video and others. I've also watched many of your videos and consistently appreciate your musicality and refined taste, in addition to your superb technical skill. And you seem so relaxed! I appreciate your contribution to UA-cam. Jeff
@@jeffreymiller1630 I think you must be confusing me with someone else - my name is John not Cory, and I've so far not uploaded anything to youTube, though I've often posted comments [I'd never "like" a clip where comments are turned off], which I hope are helpful to others (often including links to other clips). I'm afraid I don't have any technical skill at the keyboard (or harmonica) - I think I have a musical ear and can appreciate what chords should be and that sort of thing, but only scraped grade 3 piano nearly 50 years ago (-:
@@G6JPG Sorry about that, John. I thought I'd heard from the guy who posted the piano video on UA-cam, whose name is Cory. I'm new to posting on UA-cam and obviously need to be more precise. In any event, good to hear from you. Take care.
Awesome job on this. I played this years ago but never mastered it. Truly an inspiration. Your other videos are great, I love the camera view and your direct style.
I love this song. It was my favourite song as a little girl, about 3 or 4 years old. It reminds me of my grandma - I was the first grandchild and she loved it when I danced to Nola.
Beautiful! You play beautifully Mr. Hall. Bought the sheet music for this piece from a thrift store and gave to a friend with instructions to learn to play it so I could enjoy it. HA! He did learn it, but never played it as well as you do. Bravo!
Nice performance of an early 20th century pop standard. Before radios and television and iTunes, people bought sheet music, took it home snd learned it on the piano in the parlor. Watch Meredith Wilson's "The Music Man" for a glimpse of this era. This piece is not too hard to play because it uses repetitive hand positions and patterns.
My aunt had a player piano. When we visited, "Nola" was our favorite. Then my mother would sit down and play it from memory and dare us to say the piano roll was better. She was better.
Thanks !!! .. I wish I could play as note-perfect as that ! You could prove on phrasing quite a bit? ... But still - Much better than I can do myself - - Again- THANKS !
Never get tired of listening to this. Just wish I didnt have double jointed fingers - its a curse. Listen to Richard Dowlling playing this a rag time piece.- havent heard anyone who plays Nola in Ragtime.
See also ua-cam.com/video/7Xow-TM3JxU/v-deo.html played by the late lamented Judith Durham of The Seekers. Bear with the first 30 seconds in which she pretends that she's going to be playing something very "heavy" like Grieg's Concerto in A Minor, then she gives a cute little grin at the camera and launches into Nola.
Hmmmmm ... I wonder how hard this is ... This is one sweet piece, nicely done as well. There's a few other videos of this, at least one is a Victrola playing a disc cut by Arndt himself. There the composer himself plays it about double this tempo, and to me that's way too fast. Slowing it down just sounds much more musical ... and also give me a fighting chance to maybe learn it as well.
Hi Cory, I was wondering if you would ever consider doing Jarrod Radnich's arrangement of the Pirates of the Carribean theme? It's a really cool piece and would love to see you play it!
Thanks. I could play it this well when I was younger. Lol. My name is Nola, my aunt named me for this tune!
Hey!!! I’m a Nola too!
@@twofeathers5145 I haven’t met any yet and I am 67 already! We do have a Facebook page just for Nola’s though so I know they’re out there
Brilliant performance of Felix Arndt's immortal piece from 1915
Aacchhh I just LOVE this. Wish I could play it like that. Tears are falling

enzo darren has a song Nola
this is not the same melody as Darren's Nola but I would like Arndt's Nola
My mom played this for us all the time! She passed away at 85 in 2008. She really made us happy whenever she let it rip!
My mom played this too! Great memories when I listen to this!

PERFECT, beautifully executed. Thankyou.
My mother used to play this. She will be 99 this fall and no longer plays piano, but what a lovely memory! Beautifully played here-

Espetacular, maravilha maestro!

1915? Very, very typical of light pieces composed around WW1. Thank you for this, haven't heard it for so long.

My dear Father used to do the softshoe to this in the mornings while in his pajamas

The tune reminds me of the theme music of The Wombles. I wonder if this piece inspired it. Very nicely played here too, I might add.

Polly? Same era?
Excellent. George Wright would be smiling proudly about now.

Do you have enough up to original tempo version?
King Crimson surprisingly brought me here
The recording sound odd, sort as if the mic is too close to yhe strings ??
my grandma was named after this song and she actually met nola
Have you got any more compositions in the works? :)
I gave up on this a few months back. Must try again - this time a bit harder.
My parents use to do a comedy routine to this back in the 1960's.
Perfect ... Now why can't I play it like that. (I did try)
So did my father for about 70 years! He would have loved this piece.

Spot bollock on. Nice.
Technically well done but a bit mechanistic. Needs lilt. Player must feel it. Sorry!
Charly Chaplin played piano? :)
I am going to vomit if I see the name of Chaplin attached to any early 20th century ragtime again! YUCK!
I love it, but I can't play that: to Advanced for my level. That's remind me Charly Chaplin.
This great but you don't need a Steinway to sound nice.
Que maravilha, tatuagem sp
Did I say that?
No, not for now. Sorry.
No. I was joking ... as denoted by the little sideways smiley face at the end of my comment. Lighten up.
