Hate to say it, but Taylor Mays has himself to blame for not having a lengthy NFL career. Substance abuse is no one else's fault but his. As far as his coach not drafting him, so what? Richard Sherman wanted Jim Harbaugh to draft him. That didn't happen either. Finally, I think his weight was a problem. It definitely effected his speed and agility. I don't know many successful safeties over 235lbs.
I really appreciate your research, I have been following you for six months on You Tube TV, I decided to reach out and express my appreciation for your honesty. I grew playing sports in the late 70's early 80's. Your information is so good ESPN, should carve a news flash for you. Dont let nothing stop you from reporting on athletes positively when can and be candid
In college, your coach is basically only second to god. (Notice how in the nfl they call Coaches by their name, while in collage it’s just Coach) When Pete told him to wait he probably didn’t think it was optional. That being said, he should have had someone else in his corner giving him pro advise. On the coaches end, his job is to win. He’s going to do what that takes. The sad part is this probably happens a lot more than we hear about.
Man I really enjoy your content!!!! You notice all my favorite college athletes that are forgotten!!!! If its not to ask I would like to request the story of your rival Josh Gordon story , And Cam Newton!!! ESPN needs to give you a show!!!
I love this channel because it treats the era I watched nfl the most as the good old days. NFL network classics show kind of vibe for a 30 year old lol
Taylor kinda reminded me of former Cowboys safety Roy Williams. Big, strong, KO hits but suspect in coverage at NFL level. Also like Taylor, Bill Parcells recommended Roy to switch to LB but Roy declined. If they both made the move, I believe they had the instincts to fly to the ball and bring down the ballcarrier thus possibly prolonging their careers. Great video!
I'm a Bengals fan and saw him up close and personal. Taylor was a physical freak but he didn't have alot of football instincts. And for a dude his size and hitting ability, he missed alot of tackles (hitters and tacklers are not the same).
His dad Stafford Mays played for the Minnesota Vikings 1987 - 1988, who had a defensive backs coach by the name of Pete Carroll there from 1985 - 1989. Stafford Mays asked Pete to talk to him. Also, Tayler Mays had a father who was in the NFL, he knew what he had to work on, he was a great physical specimen, but he was kind of a hesitant when it came to hitting.
I will watch Mike but it is an insult to compare them. Flemlo is great, and he has never said anything as stupid as Steph with a 40 inch vert, also like I said I enjoy Korzembas videos but Mike has the most punchable face I have seen in a long time.
I started hating Pete Carrol personality after the truth of himself was shown as a Seahawks head coach. I am a trojans through Taylor Mays era! This dude was a beast, and deserve that Seahawks #1 spot!
Would love to see a video on Pete Carroll's overall shenanigans. He runs against the Pats in the Super Bowl. Has Reggie Bush on the sideline on that 4th and 2 vs. Texas. This story here, with Taylor Mays. I'm sure there's a lot more skeltons in Pete Carroll's closet. I never liked that guy.
He coached the patriots before belicheck..... The media hated him.... He got a rep as phony for his"positivity" and they slip every year he coached untill they missed the payoffs.... He failed miserably.... I never liked him either... When hectook over new England had been to the super bowl with parcells
I always loved Taylor mays, my favorite player was Sean Taylor and he reminded me of him. I never understood how no NFL team has a spot for him on their team, I don't see how he couldn't be another Derrick Brooks or lavonte David type, or even some type of nickel linebacker or pass rusher
If I was Taylor Mays and I trust Pete Carroll a whole lot but you got to be aware that his decision will be biased. Also ask more than the coach and watch film and be like that needs some work and then work on that. Also he could have worked out as a linebacker. There are many more factors than Carroll himself to Mays' downfall.
+David Ogle agreed..those would all play a huge role (hence my opening statement on the video lol) but Pete Carroll's role in it is wayyy more interesting to talk about lol
Definitely also I think instead of saying supposedly that he was good to sit down watch film with him of not only himself but NFL safeties of a similar play style
Back in 2011 I went to a football camp and T Mays, JJ Watt, Jim Leonard were there coaching and helping out with Chris Maragos, who’s camp it was. Back then, I had no idea who this guy was... he literally took me aside one on one to coach me which was pretty cool. I never knew how small I was until I was standing next to him and watt in a picture
He should've made the transition to ILB or MLB like Urlacher did. The view from the middle is different from either side of the tackle box. 54 made the HOF, size and speed made all the difference. Mays could've been like Patrick Willis but faster.
Taylor! Never trust a coach that needs you to help fill his (the coach's) pocket. Plus, pete was wrong for not telling Taylor what his short commings were. And for not trying to help him get ready for the nfl better.
What do you want to know? He was injury prone and wasnt a very good qb so he couldn't translate to pros but he was straight line fast so he could make big plays with his legs in college
Never trust anyone with what's best for your self interest, never put your trust into man's judgment!! Always do what's best for you as an individual!!
Man I was so excited when the Niners picked him. I thought he was going to be another Ronnie Lott with the huge hits. It sucks that it didn’t end up working out
Big fan of the show. My high school was known for winning championships for two decades. Recently, I googled all the freak athletes that went to my high school. What I found was that a shockingly large percentage of these athletes were a year older than their grade. Its a huge advantage at that age. I would say 90% of them never did anything at the next level. Thought i would share when I heard you talking about birth certificates in this video
yup jus like that call in da goddamn super bowl when we all knew they shud have ran the ball wit marshawn, the throwing decision came from above bcuz the entertainment industry is all rigged
Wait a minute... Pete Carroll was the coach not the general manager. The GM of the Seahawks has to make up his own mind and then be held accountable... I can see where the player felt let down but you can't run an NFL team that way and Earl Thomas turned out to be a future hall-of-famer... ET for me... Forever
Carroll was and is Executive of Football Operations for Seattle. He has final say on everything including every draft pick. He is who hired GM John Schneider even. Even Wilson was drafted after John kept bugging Pete about it cause Pete was against it and figured Flynn was their guy.
Good for him for getting his degree from a prestigious college. For most guys who make it to the NFL, the majority would tell you the wished the graduated bc the opportunities after football are immense especially when avg career is 3 years!

David Manigo lebron james?
92snax you have a point
Kam kam.
Raiden The Mortal no the perfect weight for a safety is 220 -230
Raiden The Mortal its a lot of cold safeties that weigh around that 220 -230 weight
I really appreciate your research, I have been following you for six months on You Tube TV, I decided to reach out and express my appreciation for your honesty. I grew playing sports in the late 70's early 80's. Your information is so good ESPN, should carve a news flash for you. Dont let nothing stop you from reporting on athletes positively when can
and be candid
Yo thanks Shane! I appreciate that bro
Laron Landry next
B R O S K I I I mean he had a pretty decent career til he left the skins
yea
YES
After the death of Sean Taylor, it was downhill for Landry
He did Laron Landry already. Check his page homie.
Ahahahahaha. Watching this for the first time in 2021! Man you was a baby back then my brother. Still killing it back then! Love you bro!!!
And they got kam chancellor in the 5th
AYO B What a STEAL, Kam was.
AYO B It's SO hard to hit, like that in a draft.
He was better than Kam
King Jerel maybe in college but I don’t think you can possibly argue that kam isn’t a better player at every aspect of the game
In college, your coach is basically only second to god. (Notice how in the nfl they call
Coaches by their name, while in collage it’s just Coach)
When Pete told him to wait he probably didn’t think it was optional. That being said, he should have had someone else in his corner giving him pro advise.
On the coaches end, his job is to win. He’s going to do what that takes.
The sad part is this probably happens a lot more than we hear about.
T.Mays Was a Fuckin Beast On Ea NCAA Football!!!!
you make great sports videos, you have so much indepeth information. You take alot of pride in your work and it shows. Keep up the great work bro!
Man...Taylor Mays could of been one of the greats 😭
nah, he wasnt even good in the canadian football league
All the usc games and tail gate parties on campus from 04 till '10. Awesome times
man alot of usc players that came out in the Pete Carroll era was trashed over hyped only player that's going to be a hall of famer is clay Matthews
lafroziaa 856 Troy Polamalu?
Willie Mcginest 👌🏼
Man I really enjoy your content!!!! You notice all my favorite college athletes that are forgotten!!!! If its not to ask I would like to request the story of your rival Josh Gordon story , And Cam Newton!!! ESPN needs to give you a show!!!
6:31 undeniably looks like Cam Newton!
I love this channel because it treats the era I watched nfl the most as the good old days. NFL network classics show kind of vibe for a 30 year old lol
Damn flemlo back at it again with the 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
big homie chat yessir
Taylor kinda reminded me of former Cowboys safety Roy Williams. Big, strong, KO hits but suspect in coverage at NFL level. Also like Taylor, Bill Parcells recommended Roy to switch to LB but Roy declined. If they both made the move, I believe they had the instincts to fly to the ball and bring down the ballcarrier thus possibly prolonging their careers. Great video!
Another Trojan and WR Dwayne Jarrett 👀👀👀
Uno Quatro Jr. dude can catch he was good af
I still have his rookie card as a Carolina panthers .. I think he retired after like 3-4 years
Dwayne Jarrett was a beast in college thought he was gonna be like randy moss
I'm a Bengals fan and saw him up close and personal. Taylor was a physical freak but he didn't have alot of football instincts. And for a dude his size and hitting ability, he missed alot of tackles (hitters and tacklers are not the same).
I see you represent Ohio in a lot of your vids. Much respect from da nati!
The Mike Korzemba of College Football
U missing out on KTO
Korzemba does all the research amd comes out with that fire too. Good comparison.
Don't insult Flemlo like that
Jimmy D'Amora yeah, Korzemba tries to act like he knows everything but he finds it all online.
This dude was a beast, and deserve that Seahawks #1 spot!
reggie bush and lendale white
yung blak male with a rocket launcher yooo... LW faded away after he left the titans
ombjay ye but they was beast together
One of lendale whites biggest problems was that he pulled a JaMarrcus Russell and got to fat
looking back at some old videos I missed back then, You came a long way bra keep it up ✊🏾
Taylor mayes is still in madden lol
Every video I watch of this guy I smile at how well done it is. This dude needs to do something bigger in sports analysis/documentaries or whatever
He's also a 9-11 conspiracy theorist.. so there's that.
David Ogle pete carroll takes taylor maze, pete carroll will have zero super bowl appearences. The legion of boom would not exist
TzUp I was talking more about when Taylor Mays asked him for what he needed to work on and how to improve for the draft.
Back in 2011 I went to a football camp and T Mays, JJ Watt, Jim Leonard were there coaching and helping out with Chris Maragos, who’s camp it was. Back then, I had no idea who this guy was... he literally took me aside one on one to coach me which was pretty cool. I never knew how small I was until I was standing next to him and watt in a picture
it doesn't matter he was still drafted so he has no one to blame but himself
He should've made the transition to ILB or MLB like Urlacher did. The view from the middle is different from either side of the tackle box. 54 made the HOF, size and speed made all the difference. Mays could've been like Patrick Willis but faster.
Taylor! Never trust a coach that needs you to help fill his (the coach's) pocket.
Plus, pete was wrong for not telling Taylor what his short commings were. And for not trying to help him get ready for the nfl better.
His parents didn't tell him that you can always go back and finish school.🤔🤦🤔
Taylor Martinez
KJ THA GAWD yes!!
KJ THA GAWD yess
He owns a Real Estate business
What do you want to know? He was injury prone and wasnt a very good qb so he couldn't translate to pros but he was straight line fast so he could make big plays with his legs in college
Shorty why don’t you look him up. P.s. he’s ur dad
Never trust anyone with what's best for your self interest, never put your trust into man's judgment!! Always do what's best for you as an individual!!
Man I was so excited when the Niners picked him. I thought he was going to be another Ronnie Lott with the huge hits. It sucks that it didn’t end up working out
Taylor was a man amongst boys in college. He found out he couldn't do to NFL players the same way
He pry had was on roids or something and Carroll knew it
Cya cover your ass...
Crazy seeing young flemlo not dropping the que the wayne
it is pretty wild lol
When the Niners drafted this guy I was like yes !!!! Then poooooffffff wtf
I saw it in person he ran a legit 4.2
Your videos are fantastic. It's like 30 for 30 but much shorter, which is a great thing. You and KTO have the most compelling football videos.
Pete Carroll probably never made those pick, general managers generally make the picks.
MrO 2 The head coach makes the choice and asks the owner for approval
I think(im not 100%) that pete had full control as part of his contract.
I got love for Taylor kuz he's from Seattle but earl is 1000 times better than Taylor
yup jus like that call in da goddamn super bowl when we all knew they shud have ran the ball wit marshawn, the throwing decision came from above bcuz the entertainment industry is all rigged
Flem you're fcukin awesome man. love ur vids.
Wtf happened to Sammy knight
Alton Rodgers Wow talk about a blast from the past...
Had a nice Career he is in the Saints Hall of fame
Was he the one on Madden with like a mid 70 speed rating despite being a safety.
How about an Eric Berry video? That guy can play, and he deserves a new team.
Collin Klein from Kansas state
Even the old videos are bangin
humble beginnings tho
For most guys who make it to the NFL, the majority would tell you the wished the graduated bc the opportunities after football are immense especially when avg career is 3 years!
imagine Kam and Taylor in the two safety positions? somebody is guaranteed to get their head knocked off
And someone is guaranteed a 70 yard td cause neither can cover for shit LOL
Yeah Kam knocked himself str8 outta the league!!
guaranteed TDs
