Warhammer 40k is full of CANNIBALS, that's no surprise, but when you start to dive into the lore you begin to see its not limited to just chaos and xenos factions. the imperium of mankind is full of CANNIBALS as well! some reviled by the god emperor's holy inquisition, and others openly celebrated like the blood angles. let's take a deeper look at some of these macob factions and try to get to the bottom of the echlissiarchys aparent hypocrisy

In real life the law of the sea recognises that if shipwrecked the weakest member can be eaten without consequences. And in fiji where the british army Recruits one percent of the population there is still at least one tribe that practices cannibalism, not mainstream throughout Fijian but there is a real world connection between cannibals and real life military.
I like the skull marines, they're cool!
Also I think corpse starch is a big display of hypocrisy. Cannibalism is cannibalism regardless.

I think the Salamander successor the dragon spears is another good example of a chapter that practices catabolism. They eat there dead so the memory of their brothers live on.
given that space marines have an orgran specifically to extra memory encodes from eating brains. This is actually a logical practice to follow.

Also I hope there's more lore of culinary and gastronomy in Warhammer 40K lore, especially in the more "civilised" worlds in Imperial space and even outside of that (also does Emperor before internment to Golden Throne, Primarchs, Custodes, the perpetuals and any alignment of Warp champions requiring conventional food nourishments?)
There is actually several diseases in the real world associated with eating human flesh, so I could definitely see the idea that the spiritual poison in Warhammer being some of a twisted evolution on that. Maybe the Death Cults and Corpse Starch involve similar holyish rituals to make it not poison? That's about as important in Warhammer as actual food processing
Most of those diseaes ( physical not mental) are resolved by proper cooking of the meat, just like pig.
@@ehisey most can be, but not all. Don't think you can cook away the prions that cause the nastiest ones - like BSE or Kuru.
I mean, you can destroy prions with heat - but the level of heat required for that is much higher than what you need for cooking, so any contaminated meat that's "cooked" enough to destroy prions is going to be beyond unedible.
You'd be eating literal charcoal - and there still would be a small chance there's a bit of prions that survived thatm which could be still enough to infect.

Space Marines straight have an organ that is designed to get memories out of flesh they consume.
So when fighting a human cult. Marines could just grab a chunk of flesh or brain to try and get some info

I haven't played Dark Crusade in years but this video reminded me of the flavor text you get for beating the Chaos forces as Tau. It states that the Kroot auxiliaries that consumed Chaos bodies during and after the battle had to be put down because they started to mutate and go berserk. I don't know if 40K has ever done this but a supply of tainted corpsestarch giving everyone a Chaotic case of food poisoning would make for an interesting story. Honestly just want more on the ground kind of stories like King of Pigs.

The kroot were executed because the Tau were worried they were corrupted. We dont know if they were corrupted at all, just that they ate chaos meat.

I would love for you do a deep dive on some Xenos factions like the Kroot, Jokaero and others. I’m super fascinated with the tech the mad lad monkeys make. It’s probably the niftiest tech in the setting . A ring that turns into a weapon or a personal shield similar to other settings like Dune. Or a video explaining why hand to hand combat is so prevalent in the setting due to things like personal shields, etc.

Well it's not technically cannibalism for Space Marines to consume humans as they've been augmented to the point that they are a different species.
I've always read opposite, they are apart from humanity in their modifications but they're still human, genetically and in much of their thinking.

so the wording i think is whats important, the imperium sees the consuming of the human form to be heresy, not consuming human meat, it sort of works with the grinder cults thing aswel due to them going mad when they eat unprocessed human meat and everyone eating it out of cans is fine, so thats a potential answer

I've wondered about this for awhile but in particular I found the info about the Space Marines interesting. My friends and I are playing the Rogue Trader TTRPG and my character is a rogue Space Marine that has joined as an archmilitant. The idea is that he was part of the Astral Claws and the Badab war but instead of following his brothers in treachery as the chapter became the Red Cosairs he escaped during the recovery of warp travel. To make up for the lack of "Space marine" abilities he is mechanically speaking a mutant and one of the mutations I got was that I can regenerate wounds (great for Space Marine recovery times) but I had to eat raw meat or starve which has lead to him having no choice but to eat human flesh in his backstory (we only recently started) and rumors of him being a cannibal on the ship as his past identity as a Space Marine is hidden. This has definitely given me some ideas how to play out this part of a Space Marines life.

I figured that the reason why it's common on some planets more so than Others is due to said planets administration being overwatched by the adeptus mechanicus, not giving a fugg what they're feeding the denizens as long as their production stays consistent.

I think corpse-starch is a grim necessity, though that doesn't mean it isn't also a hypocrisy. Maybe it should be called a necessary hypocrisy?
When it comes to the Mortifactors and the Sons of Malice I suspect there was more than Cannibalism that led to the Sons of Malice becoming Excommunicated while the Mortifactors have proven themselves to be loyal in spite of the Cannibalistic practices (doesn't mean they aren't viewed with suspicion).
Those are my two cents anyway.

I think it's the intention behind the consumption of the human form like if you're celebrating it and you're so happy about it then you should be destroyed but if you're doing it just because you need sustenance or information it's okay.
Fun Fact - Here in Germany the Movie was first Called "Those who want survive" and was Centurys later re named in Soilent Green.

The blood angels sucessors known as the Blood Drinkers are primarily a codex compliant blood angels chapter who channel their red thirst carefully using blood letting ritual sacrifice of their own chapter serfs on the eve of war zone deployment to curtail and control their thirst.
They are also far less likely to suffer incidents of the black rage bc of these practices. But such control does come a horrific price.
I wonder if there is a daemon that was born out of first act of cannibalism, that could be neat
