2 months in the future me back to say thank you again! I've been lost in "should I buy an $80,000 gas truck or a $95,000 diesel truck to pull this bigger rig" and the truth is after all the trade-offs and compromises and expenses it makes WAY MORE sense to just buy a smaller 7,000 lb rig and tow that bitch with my paid off rocket GLE400... so that's what we're gonna do. We have $100,000 on hand to spend on fuel and actual adventure that we DIDN"T spend on a stupidly no absurdly expensive new truck that's only got 25 more hp. I'm done with this journey, time to go see the continent in my reasonably priced slide-out RV and enjoy my life. See y'all on the highway!
Thanks for the follow up video. I typically tow below the speed limit because I pull a race trailer that weighs close to 10K lbs (using my F250 diesel) and I try and optimize fuel economy. The GLE gets about the same mpg as my F250 when towing at the top end of their respective tow limits. I also have the 2.0L version and the tow limit shows 5950 lbs which makes sense for that engine size.
Ps 02:44 you should know that 11.1 MPG towing is AMAZING! Most of the ($80-90,000) HD trucks get 2-3 (yes as in 1, 2, 3) MPG EVEN PULLING WITH DIESEL AND 10 SPEED TRANSMISSIONS. The secret is to find a rig that'll fit your GVWR and go enjoy your life.
I have a 2024 GLE 450 with Air suspension. I need to pull a 25ft foot bay boat with weight of 5000lbs plus trailer about 1000 lbs. I am a worried. Hope it works out :)
Thanks for doing this follow up video. It's pretty amazing to see this 4cyl pulling over 6k lbs!
