This show took less is more to a whole new degree, indeed. It was Alex Hirsch's desire to have it last only two seasons, and I respect that. But so much story and character development was found in these two seasons. Can’t believe the show ended 7 years ago. It was a really good show, and I’m glad a lot of people also like it.
The biggest moment of character development in the whole series is Grunkle Stan using the word “please” in “Not What He Seems” since earlier it was established that he has trouble saying it. Definitely the greatest one imo
Fun fact: The tiny small handles on maple syrup bottles is a decorative element which comes from how it used to be stored in stoneware and casks in the 1800's. Those used to have handles to make transportation when fully filled easier with multiple people, now since we use lightweight glass/plastic and also store in smaller containers the handles are just meant to be a neat historical nod to that.

some fun facts about gravity falls: jason ritter was casted as dipper partially because he has natural voice cracks even in his adult voice there were some things that they put in just for fun that they didn't have any plans for in the future, like the zodiac at the end of the theme song and the society of the blind eye symbol. they then had to figure out what to do with them. the episode about sev'ral times is based off Alex Hirsch's twin sister Ariel's obsession with boy bands when she was younger. in fact, at one point she was going to go to an NSYNC concert and she stubbed her toe before going, went, was on her toe for the whole time, and when she got back she went to the doctor and her toe was totally broken There was a struggle to get the song "ave maria" into the sock opera episode for those few seconds because disney was concerned it would offend christian viewers There was originally going to be a subplot where there was a little twin of Gideon's in his hair, just living there and that's why his hair is so big the animation in the part where bill dies in stan's mind was done by owl house creator dana terrace, who worked as a storyboard artist on this show the reversed text in that moment says "a-x-o-l-o-t-l my time has come to burn i invoke the ancient power that i may return" and then in dipper and mabel the curse of the time-pirate's treasure or whatever, the select-your-own-choose-venture, if you find one ending and decipher the code (it's just a caesar cipher or some shit) it takes you to a link that had a part where dipper and mabel meet the axolotl in space and he says this poem: "60 degrees that comes in threes watching from within birch trees saw his own dimension burn misses home but can't return says hes' happy, he's a liar blame the arson for the fire if he wants to shirk the flame he'll have to invoke my name one way to absolve his crime a different form, a different time" now that shit is pretty surface level, but there is a lot more i could get into about this!!! this is what happens when an autistic person develops a special interest in a show for over four years i'm gonna put more in when i remember them
My wild crossover theory is that Flapjack was Gideon's little brother but when Flapjack was a baby Gideon used the book to cast a spell on him/got a magical creature to send Flapjack to another dimension, and that's how Flapjack ended up in the middle of the ocean and found by Bubbie. Gideon's parents decided not to have any more children out of fear of what Gideon would do to them.
Apparently Alex Hirsch worked on Flapjack as a storyboard artist (along with Pendleton Ward, JG Quintel, Patrick McHale, and Peter Browngardt; the creators of Adventure Time, Regular Show, Over the Garden Wall, and Uncle Grandpa). And just throwing this in here, but Rebecca Sugar also worked on Adventure Time before they made Steven Universe. It’s nice to see that all my favorite shows are linked to each other in some way.

I’m surprised there wasn’t a reaction to Bill literally going off -in a Disney show- about he was going to kill the twins. Literally stated he was gonna kill a couple of 12 year olds, and that was allowed 😆
If I remember correctly, wasn’t Bill’s cut plan in the sock opera episode to commit suicide in Dipper’s body and frame Mabel, locking Dipper in the Mindscape for all eternity?
@@jackofclubs6229 If I remember correctly that was canonically his plan. It’s not mentioned in the show, but in the Journal 3 book that was published there is a note that I think Bill wrote while in Dipper’s body talking about how after he destroyed the journal he was going to throw Dipper’s body off the water tower. It said other stuff to, but I don’t remember all of it and I don’t know where my copy of the journal is so I can’t check it.
Gravity falls was short because it was planned. Amphibia was long because it needed filler. The Owl House is short because it ran out of time. But they all touch our hearts. And Disney doesn't realize it!
Gravity falls is short because Disney told Alex he wouldn't get a season 3 so he put everything he wanted to put there into season 2 And the owl house is short because Disney is homophobic
58:32 I was in a Box Lunch once and I saw a baseball cap that was fashioned after Mabel's shooting star sweater and I was so offended that there wasn't a sweater next to it with Dipper's pine tree to be like a fun switch on their styles.
1:15 "No, this is the third book in the series, you're going to get spoiled!" Imagine if the book was perfectly intact there. "Property of Stanford Pines, brother of Stanley Pines"
2:30:31 Bruh I never even realized that Stan had Soos employee of the year picture in his room. That’s actually so sweet. I think it pretty symbolic that he’s talking about how his old self is dead and we see him with a huge smile with one of Mabel’s stickers on his mirror, the picture from their fishing trip, and Soos picture. These kids and Soos really have been his only family in the last 60 fucking years. He got kicked out when he was 18, he resorted to get rich quick scams as a means of survival, honestly his life ended up being ruined more than Fords. Yeah Ford may not have been able to go to his dream college and that SUCKS but he ultimately ended up on the path to his life passion because of it. He spent the past 60 years studying something he loved and he had thorough research for all these weird anomalies that he could’ve made all his life goals come true and Stan was not the one who ruined that, Ford did that all on his own. Ford is honestly a crybaby. But it just goes to show how different their lives could’ve gone if Stan had confessed his mistake when it happened or if Ford had stood up and said “look, I’m the angriest out of everyone, but maybe kicking your 18 year old son out is irresponsible and irrational.” They are both extremely selfish and stubborn, those are the two qualities they share they most. And maybe I’m just a sucker for an underdog but I’m on Stans side ultimately. He spent 20 years trying to get the brother who ABANDONED him 30 years before the incident and 60 years since in total back and Ford really had the audacity to be a little crybaby bitch and punch him as soon as he saw him. Stan was happy and was going in for a hug. Stan was just happy to have his brother back. I think he more than atoned for what he did as a stupid 18 year old. I liked Ford the first time I watched the show but the more I thought about their timeline the more Ford seems like a major douchebag.
That's an interesting concept of the idea on both of these characters. Now that you mention it, I feel like Ford wasn't as appreciative to see Stan, just because of a mistake he made so many years ago. He literally had the chance to go to multiple realms, see many things no human was supposed to see, and still had the guts to get mad at Stan as if blaming him for taking all of that away. It's pretty ridiculous, if you ask me.
@Miss X 👑 Admittedly, humans are very proud creatures. Where a bad experience or some wrong that happened to us leads us to many greater avenues of experience or life, we tend to be blind to the opportunities afforded us by such an event and focus more on what we lost. If an earthquake destroys one's house and they rebuild it with better amenities, we tend not to think on the built-in modem, new office room or indoor pool; we'll think how much we wish the old house was still around. This is also in part because we're an awfully sentimental bunch, too. When we work hard on something or have a great deal of emotional weight to it, we'll hold it in greater importance. This isn't an excuse for Ford to be a jerk. If anything, it's more of an endictment. He's hurt over the work he did on that perpetual motion machine as he should be, but he's also letting that blind him to the greater achievements he's achieved; refusing to see the mountain he climbed and instead focusing on the fallen tree he couldn't scour because he tended the tree and nutured it.
@@hostomelhorsehoarderWell, the other guy certainly is. Replied to at least a couple other comments just saying shit that they knew would make people mad

A Spilling the Dice series would go so hard. Y'all have the perfect personalities for DnD. Also the amount of Soos hate in this video is unforgivable. He is the world's most perfect man.
"Weird Al" Yankovic was Probabilitor, so hearing him say "Ew apple slices, I'll eat you last" was even funnier, especially since he also voiced a pony that was just "grilled cheese" @2:35:19
A fun fact, a lot of the episodes have scenes in them that hint at or foreshadows the subject of the episode like when Dipper flips the book first to the page with the Gnomes. There's so much hidden in each episode because the creator had it planned out from the start. You can actually see Blendon the time traveler in the locations he travels to in the future episode. The show is extremely well done.
Also Stan's car has had "STNLYMBL" (Stanley Mobile) on it's licence plate as far back as Legend of the Gobblewonker, giving reference to the fact that his name is Stanley and not Stanford like we're led to believe. Alex Hirsch worked wonders with this shows, mad respect to him.
@@everafterhighgirlie there's at least 20 shorts it would take alotttt of editing but would probably round out to a 12 minute episode which they've done before
To be fair, when i was younger i played up how much i liked boys to help me ignore the fact that i DEFINITELY liked girls too and was VERY bisexual lmao
Two elements of "gay coding" are that a gay person likes the character and/or a gay person finds a character relatable, which means literally any character can be labeled "gay coded". A lot of characters called "gay coded" are in straight relationships, want to be in straight relationships, and/or show no signs of being gay. "Gay coded" is when someone tries to make everyone validate their gay headcannon...
This is one of those shows that really seemed to hit the nail on the head. It always feels like a journey watching through the whole series and while I started watching it after it ended, I'm still happy for all the memories I enjoyed with it and I still appreciate all its perfections and imperfections.
When dipper puts the project mentem helmet on ford, fords thoughts are 1. I cant tell him, hes not ready 2. The grand unified theory of weirdness ( his research) 3. I miss dimension 52 4. Fiddleford im sorry 5. Crampelter Hes protective of dipper, dedicated to his work, homesick, plagued by guilt, and also after like 50 years his childhood bully is still in his head
Adding on, dimension 52 is the Oracles dimension, and is probably one of the only dimensions that Ford felt safe in, also in the episode Dimension is misspelled as Dimention
2:43:16 Celestabellabethabelle (Probably butchered that) is actually voiced by Sam Marin, the same guy who voiced Benson, Muscle Man & Pops in Regular Show. If you listen closely, you can hear a bit of Pops in her voice.
the way Kristen Schaal (mabel's voice actor) is in frame at 2:02:07 while all the other people have pictures over their heads is understated. thank god for the stm editor(s)
@@GABETHEFILMBOY to be fair... they probably also are autistic. Like making fun of a demographic in general isn't nice. But if you're more so doing it to yourself and aiming your jokes at yourself it can be funny. But some people are extremely blind and can't tell when someone is just making a little joke and insulting themselves and get all offended. You wanna know who's the most offended peoples? White people. If you're a minority and someone asks you a question if a white person is also nearby they'll get all aggressive and mean to the person asking for your opinion on something. Like if your gardener you pay 50 dollars an hour for your garden that is huge to the point where it's basically a 350 dollars a week pay is a Mexican and you ask them if they like tequila because you want to let them have a break and wanna make sure they like tequila. If you have a nosy neighbour they'll get all defensive and offended for your gardener and basically friend and family member at that point. If you have tequila and they ask "why you got some?" You'll know they like it. It'll be mean if you don't have any.
Nuh-uh, bitch isn't the accurate word here, 'cause that would not pass the censorship. I watched the whole show in Russian (since it's my native language yk), and it wasn't a swear word. but it was pretty close, something I wouldn't expect to be said in a kids show. Idk how to translate the word properly tho, it doesn't have an english variation X0 (FYI the word "sterva" means a woman who is very self-centered and rude, and it's an insult, not just an objective.) But it was a different word, not straight up bitch.
1:30:55 to be fair, Stan doesn't really own the building either so its not like he could do anything about the deed thing unless he wanted to lose the shack.
I think it was confirmed outside the show itself through extra material that Trembley passed a bunch of weird laws in Gravity Falls, including one where the owner of a building is whoever possesses the deed (it shouldn’t apply to situations involving theft of the deed, but the Pineses couldn’t prove that Gideon stole from them)
Watching a binge video on one of my favorite childhood shows is fun enough but it's also fun to see how the audio and style of the videos change over time when combining them into one.
Ahhhh the first ever show that got me interested in deep diving into lore and mysteries. Now I spend my time diving into every internet mystery or horror I can at three in the morning. Thanks Alex hirsch 😂😅
I simultaneously hate and love the fact that all of that could've been prevented had Stan just stood in the circle. But the character development was very good
i have an answer for the canadian syrup bottle question! so basically, the handle is only there because of the design of old maple jars. they used to have big handles, but when they were redesigned they decide to just keep ‘em for aesthetic purposes; kind of similar to how our phone camera flashes like a real camera.

4:00 for anyone curious as to why syrup bottles have that tiny handle. It is because the bottles used to be bigger and have a larger handle. When commercial size bottles shrunk, they kept the handle around as an aesthetic price
They forgot about the hidden message when bill died, if you play his death scene in reverse he says “A-X-O-L-O-T-L My time has come to burn, I invoke the ancient power that I may return!” And this was never elaborated on, we still have no idea what the significance of an axolotl is in Gravity Falls
the axolotl said some things about bill in a book. “Seven degrees that come in threes, watches from within birch trees, saw his own dimension burn, misses home and cant return. Says he’s happy, hes a liar. Blame the arson for the fire. If he wants to shriek the blame, then he’ll have to invoke my name. One way to absolve his crime; a different form, a different time.”

I’m surprised there wasn’t a reaction to Bill literally going off -in a Disney show- about he was going to kill the twins. Literally stated he was gonna kill a couple of 12 year olds, and that was allowed 😆
"Children that I need to turn into corpses"

I love Stan and Ford, but it’s honestly incredible that Dipper and Mabel survived the summer. 😂
It's apparently canon that the show takes place in the one and only universe where they both live till 13

1:08:13 “it’s the nights that are the hardest”, absolutely sent me 😂 what a family guy cutaway of a joke
58:32 I was in a Box Lunch once and I saw a baseball cap that was fashioned after Mabel's shooting star sweater and I was so offended that there wasn't a sweater next to it with Dipper's pine tree to be like a fun switch on their styles.
1:02:23 crazy to think The Great Gatsby is adding lore implications to Bill now
Fr
Yeah then I got assigned the great Gatsby for reading for school the same year after the release
Given that reflection on Ford, I can see where Mabel gets it.

The utter nostalgia this show instills... I miss this show so much, I just finished a marathon of it.
"Weird Al" Yankovic was Probabilitor, so hearing him say "Ew apple slices, I'll eat you last" was even funnier, especially since he also voiced a pony that was just "grilled cheese"
@2:35:19
It's hilarious when they said Bill and Ford were friends with benefits
When it's basically canon that the two of them are exes

She's incredibly, almost annoyingly boy-crazy. I dont think that would be a very common opinion.

When dipper puts the project mentem helmet on ford, fords thoughts are
1. I cant tell him, hes not ready
2. The grand unified theory of weirdness ( his research)
3. I miss dimension 52
4. Fiddleford im sorry
5. Crampelter
Hes protective of dipper, dedicated to his work, homesick, plagued by guilt, and also after like 50 years his childhood bully is still in his head
Adding on, dimension 52 is the Oracles dimension, and is probably one of the only dimensions that Ford felt safe in, also in the episode Dimension is misspelled as Dimention
10:23 due to the amount of trauma and abuse he has been through in canon i wouldn't doubt him being in war ngl
The Vietnam War was going on around the time Stan was out on the street so he totally could've gotten drafted.
