That is really cool, man! Sounds awesome too by the way, very nice sound. I have a '79 CX500 Custom and I'm thinking about doing a build. But I've had this bike for so long, and not quite ready to chop it up. I use it for commuting and two-up riding on the weekends in the country. It's a great bike, runs very nice and has been very reliable.
Extra beef in the SP1 sound excellent! I believe this is my next power plant not cuz of the ultimate power but the kind of power like you can use it all some of the time the best kind of power
Dude! You almost never gave it WOT in this vid! For those that know....these bad boys rarely drop below 7000 between shifts at wide open. Like a cross! Can't wait for fair weather
Yeah they just start building good power around 7000, which continues past red line. Well, Honda states that they set red line at 9600, but during pre-production testing, they said the engine runs reliably to 11,500, and valve float didn't occur until 12,200. And the manual states that short bursts of acceleration up to 10,500 is acceptable, so they're giving the owners a 1000 rpm safety buffer there I guess.
That was my first ride after re-assembly of the entire bike after chop. Yes the clutch cable was tight. It was adjusted just about when I returned. Thanks for your concern brother
Hey, so i have the stock Keihin carbs with a sigma 6 jet kit with velocity stacks. Would you still recommend the Murray's carbs. Im running a very similar exhaust set up to yours. Just about 8 more inches of pipe. Voodoo sode dump off slip ons with H pipe delete. My bike packs a hell of a punch for a 500 but dosnt quite pull like that. And never had my bike rev quite that high.
Brandon, I would suggest you reach out to Murray ;) - He is a good guy.. and I do not think asking for jet sizes on Mikuni VMs is fair to him - That is how he makes his living.. - I hope you understand.
Night and day.. a lot more responsive and if you have the right exhaust, you probably get 15%-20% more power. I highly recommended. Murray is really cool guy. I am sure you can buy Mikuni’s on your own and figure out the jetting.. but he was a really great guy to deal with.
Hi there. love the bike and the sound is awesome. I am in the process of building my CX500 and thinking about straightpiping. Are you getting this sound without any mufflers. Can you please describe exhaust setup in this video? thanks!
Leo thanks for the reply. i went to your facebook page and could not find it. Where can i see it? Beautiful family by the way. I lived in Boston for 10 years. Greetings from the Dominican Republic!
Hello, is amazing your motorbike, i want to buy any carburetors mikuni vm34, what is the reference complete from this carburetors is vm 34 - 389? or other reference.. regreets from Colombia
juan pablo puentes look up Murray's mikuni vm34 and go to his website. It gives you a list of options for your exhaust set up and whether you have a solo seat or not. Murray modifys the mikuni carbs and has a custom set of intake boots for it.
Looks like he put a set of Murray's carbs on (It's in the video description and you can see the sticker when he's hitting the choke prior to starting it up). Murray sells the whole setup, so you don't need to go buy anything else. You can get them here: murrayscarbs.com/ and here: www.speedmotoco.com/cx500-cx650-Twisted-Twin-Parts-s/112.htm
The combination Carbs / AirPods / Freeflow exhaust I would say about 10HP. Carburators are jetted to let more fuel in and pods let more air in. The pickup speed is night and day. The bike is much more responsive. Once I get it on the Dyno I can tell you exactly how much HP I got.
stock pipes or stright pipes? think of picking up an cx500 for a first bike also how is turning I hear it's alot different due to its a shaft vs a chain
dan staszko I had my pipes made custom based on my own design. My clutch in the video was slipping a little due to an incorrect adjustment of the clutch cable but there is no difference in tuning between chain and shaft aside from the shaft grease maintenance
Leo Barella i mean where can i purchase original mikuni carbs, perhaps by online... i'm planning to build my suzuki gsx 250, does your stock can applied to those engine?
My deep opinion - original cx500 euro as any other model - full stock factory look - is so much better than this crippled byke - I think you shall aquiece / The original is the bestt LOOKS ever
Corey Slater - you are right... and you are also missing the point of what a project like this is. The bike was not even turning when I bought it... so it’s definitely faster than the original ;)
Not everybody only cares about going fast. Put your ego aside and respect it for what it is, it's unique to him, taking something ugly and making it beautiful and the sound alone is worth it.
i'd like to see your shitty Harley last 100000 mls hacking around the streets of london day in day out........do some research moron............best engine honda made IMO for longevity. id bet a lot of money his bike would lap your Harley round a track......ha ha
that sound is very addictive.....gonna get myself one !

Yes, it was definitely built to last
Just throw some loud pipes on it no need to chop it up 🇺🇸👍

did you have to change jetting in these carbs?
Yes but Murray does it all for you based on where you live ..
Looks pretty radical with the stressed member engine and monoshock. Miles away from a stock CX or even GL500. Great work.

What’s the exhaust look like? Love the sound I’d like to do something similar.
Dustin Adams i built it custom.
F*ckin' awesome bro, thanks for sharing 👌
awesome sounding bike man!! thanks for the video.
I recently got my bike licence and I'm really considering a CX500 as a first bike. Largely because of that sound!
Go for it, phenomenal bike.
Easy to control with bags of character, the only thing it lacks is pace, but you'll still eat most cars if speed is your thing.
A stock CX 500 does not sound like that !!! That bike is heavily modified.
Why are you short shifting it as soon as you hit the power band? Your shifting at 8500k tops this bike revs to 9650
In Germany there's also a prepared flatslide set for cx500 mikuni tm34 offered by Topham Vergasertechnik
👍
Cool ride but CX500’s are very slow. Still a nice ride
Are mikuni carbs straight forward to install and reliable?
That bike sounds fantastic! Nice build!
Mono shock might look cool but there's way more stress back there than having 2 shocks.....especially since there support points are gone

Sounds like new minimum warm up i'm guessing
It sounds beautiful. I wonder what it now weighs in its present form as compared to my nearly stock 1982 GL500.
The sound of your bike is 2nd to none!!!
Sound amazing😍
Another question. Do you currently have a temp gauge on your bike?
Yes, the gauge is in the Motogadget Motoscope Pro and the Breakout Box to connect with the original temperature sensor
I cringed every single time you slipped the clutch .. painful

Smoke420Bros yes I would. Mikunis are much more reactive than Keihin
Ur tag should say BOOMER
Sounds amazing. What exhaust are you running?
John Kelly I designed my own and built it.
how much turns out you adjusted your air and idle mixture?? Thanks
Way cool excellent street power I want the 650 version for my next bike 1986 complete bike to begin the next project is 1986 right?
John Carlson yes
I'm trying to do the same to my cx500 how did you get fuel to both carbs from the tank
Nicholas Mezes with a Y splitter
Do you know what jet sizes are being used
Brandon, I would suggest you reach out to Murray ;) - He is a good guy.. and I do not think asking for jet sizes on Mikuni VMs is fair to him - That is how he makes his living.. - I hope you understand.
How much of an improvement in performance did it make. Currently working on my cx500 build and just curious on the performance upgrade.

Leo Barella thanks so much for the kind words Leo!
@@LeoBarella333 15-20% is a massive number. Are you sure?
AjackLee4 yes, Thats the combination of carbs and exhaust and elec ignition
@@LeoBarella333 Fair enough
You live in a beautiful area
Thanks for naming it after me
I just bought a 1981 CX500 Custom and I really hope mine sounds half as good as this bro, you nailed this build!!
Hi there. love the bike and the sound is awesome. I am in the process of building my CX500 and thinking about straightpiping. Are you getting this sound without any mufflers. Can you please describe exhaust setup in this video? thanks!
On Facebook I had pictures of the entire build of the exhaust. It's a custom design but it is practically a straight pipe

Esteban Lopez I made it
Is the front end swap difficult?
Not very difficult but you need to customize the triple tree attachment and bearings

That sounds beautiful. I've GOTTA get one of these bikes...I just need to learn.....Everything.
