    The little computer fans are pretty handy! And quite a bit quieter 🥳

      These have ball bearings. The old cheap ones didn't so they wore out fast. But they are still working fantastic. Thanks for watching.

      I have 3 old computer fans mounted. Very quiet and they do help quite a bit in hot weather.

    We are one of your subscribers and are traveling down to the Keys in Florida… I was wondering if you have stayed in Fiesta Keys or Sunshine Keys and which one you prefer?
    We enjoy watching your videos!

      Thanks for watching and being a subscriber Sue. We have not stayed at either of these resorts yet so sorry I can't comment to that. This summer is the first time we have ventured East and in this case made it as far as Pensacola Florida as far as Florida is concerned. It is a big country and will take a while if ever to get every where. Let us know what you decide. Maybe we could even include you on our channel to do the review for others.

    I’m a part timer. When I go to store the RV. Is there a idea on how I can switch off the fan connection? Would I need to install a switch?

    • @TignerAdventures
      @TignerAdventures  Рік тому

      Thanks for watching. Well it depends on where you wire the fans into. It it is straight off the battery then yes. If it is off a fuse circuit that is shut off when you. place your rig in storage then no. It is up to you as to where you connect it. If you use a volt meter you should be able to find something that works how you want it too.

    So if you unplug the fridge from the A/C outlet it will use 12V DC ?
    Thanks

    • @TignerAdventures
      @TignerAdventures  8 місяців тому

      Thanks for watching. Maybe. In our case, our Fridge is a 3-way fridge. Gas, AC, and 12 Volt. If yours is a 3-way fridge then if you unplug the AC plug then it can only switch between propane or 12 volts and so yes, if you unplug it then 12 volts would be an option. However, newer units are starting to come with only 2 way or full residential. Full residential only runs on AC power. 2 Way can swap between propane or AC but they will not do 12 volts. So it depends. Good question.

    Why not use a piece of sheet metal vs cardboard?

    • @TignerAdventures
      @TignerAdventures  Місяць тому

      You can use what ever you want as long as it can restrict the flow. Cardboard is easier to cut and less chance of getting cut. Metal is long lasting but my cardboard is doing a great job and it was free. If you are worried it might catch fire I guess that would be a reason to put metal there. But it is up above everything and should not be touching anything. Good question though.

    How many watts does the fan use?

    • @TignerAdventures
      @TignerAdventures  5 місяців тому

      Thanks for watching. It is a variable speed fan set so anywhere from .01 to .35 amps or max 4.2 watts. Remember it runs faster when it is hot out so that is when you would draw up to 4.2 watts.

    One point, there is a reason why computers have 3 fans when they generate a lot of heat. While 2 fans might work, adding a third should go a long way to extend equipment lifespan. But hey, I only have 30 years of repair experience. What do I know... well, actually, a lot. Lol.

    • @TignerAdventures
      @TignerAdventures  Місяць тому +1

      Thanks for watching Billy. Computer fans are usually 5 volts and I don't feel they are as robust as these. But you could add as many as you want if you were worried. My 2 fans that were installed 2 years ago have worked very well. When we are in Arizona the side of our rig gets up to 150+ on the outside skin. The fans made a major difference as they ramp up and down based on temp.

    • @billlyell8322
      @billlyell8322 Місяць тому +1

      @TignerAdventures o know pc fans are 5 volts but not all computer fans are, we worked with 12 volt fans. In the equipment I repaired voltage ranged from plus 5 volts to plus minus 300 volts. It depended on what unit it was and what it did. Besides the cpu, there was disk platters, card punches, card reader, tape punches, tape reader's, multipliers, modems, display monitors just t.o name of few of the pieces I can talk about.
      My point wasn't to use a pc fan, it was that the heat damage was cumulative. That it wore out equipment over time.
      I'm glad to hear you have good luck with your system. What temps are you dealing with? Have you plotted the temps over time to ensure the equipment isn't being stressed.

      @@billlyell8322 I have not. This is not computers. The refrigerator puts off heat no matter what when it is working. The fans help dissipate this heat which is more than what was done when the refrigerator was installed at the factory. It did not have any fans from the factory. The idea was the heat would rise and go out the roof vent which it does. So the cavity has always had heat in it. The fans in this case actually make it more efficient by getting more heat out, especially on those hot Arizona days. It has helped out tremendously on allowing the fridge to keep cool inside.

    WARNING: If you do this and use PC fans, be prepared to replace them regularly. They are not made for outdoor use, and the plastic will get brittle and fail. If they fail when they are running, and a blade comes off, it could damage the fins on the back of the refrigerator.

    • @TignerAdventures
      @TignerAdventures  Місяць тому

      Thanks but this isn't true. I have been using these for the last year and they still are very pliable. So this just isn't true. And they don't spin fast enough to do anything to a metal fin. So I"m not sure where you are getting your info. Also these are mounted at the top of your draft area out of the sun.

    • @GerenM63
      @GerenM63 Місяць тому

      @@TignerAdventures Yes, it is very true. Mine shattered on me TODAY. They were mounted EXACTLY as yours are. And, BTW, it’s not like you invented this idea. Mine had been in service for five years, almost to the day. Just be prepared to replace them, and protect your equipment.

    • @TignerAdventures
      @TignerAdventures  Місяць тому +1

      @@GerenM63 5 years is a pretty good life. The ones in my PC usually only lasted about 2 years and just stopped. At least these have ball bearings in them. And true I did not invent this idea, I just explained how and why I did it. It has been great. I had some from Camping World that were solar and they only lasted about a year and started making all kinds of noise. The bottom line is I am very pleased with these and it is a good thing to do for your refrigerator.

    • @GerenM63
      @GerenM63 Місяць тому +1

      @@TignerAdventures Yeah, all I was trying to say was that these things won’t last forever, and if they come apart as mine did, there’s the possibility of damage. Without actually seeing all of it happen, I think that one or two blades failed and were flung off into others, causing a “cascade failure”. I found a couple of blades wedged pretty tightly into the cooling fins (which surprised me). It was the plastic that aged and failed, not the bearings. Mine ran continuously since their installation - our trailer is always powered, even when stored at home. I probably should have given more detail in my initial comment, and for that omission, I apologize.
      I’ll replace the ones that failed (200mm 1200RPM ball bearing fans) with new ones, as it is remarkably effective, but I’ll put notes in my calendar to check them periodically. Ultimately, though, I’m going to want to go to a 12V compressor fridge - or get a new camper that comes with one.
      Happy camping.

      Maybe the OP is talking about rack mounted server fans. These are more like turbines and spin extremely fast to move tons of air in very tight passages. They are also very loud. I could perhaps see one doing some damage from a catestrophic failure. Regular desktop PC fans are usually made to be quiet and are pretty low energy.
