In this episode we cover a lot..."You always say that..." Well, it's still true. We cover everything from the Rapido New Look Bus Upgrades to a look behind the scenes of creating an episode of SOO The Milwaukee Road.
All of this an MORE! - Розваги
I didn't think that bus could get much better but you took it to the next level, your interior color was perfect, most public transportation seems to use some shade of green or beige on the interiors, nice to see a vehicle that you can populate without amputating everyones legs as well, really like the behind the scenes stuff, I appreciate the work you put into these videos, lots of great information, entertaining and I've learned of a few products I didn't know about through these
Scott, you’ve been a great source yourself. By sharing your feedback. It helps me know what works and what doesn’t. You’re right about the bud and the scale, not having to chop figures up. I do have a pile of legless figures, that Preiser clearly was aware of the need to amputate.
Thanks for posting, tuning in and hopefully you’ll enjoy the finale.
You're very welcome. I watch all the way to the end because it's great all the way to the end. Stay well. -Wil 👍
It’s great to hear you make it to the end…I always wonder what happen to those mid-show. I’d like some reasoning behind why they bail? Kind like the mysterious 1 or 2 thumbs down each week. You should provide a little context or feedback on the thumbs down…something!
Thank you for sticking it out to the end, I appreciate you taking the time to do so.
@@SootheMilwaukeeRoad I think when you give a thumbs down you should have to provide an explanation why and that when you hit the thumbs down a box for the reason pops up and you have to give the answer before the thumbs down is accepted. Also people that hit the thumbs down may be doing so because they were recommended the video and the content is something they aren't interested in so they hit the thumbs down to say this is not for me instead of saying the video is bad
Yes you did cover a lot in this episode! Thanks for demonstrating how the ProtoThrottle braking works using the horn to show the pulse and step mode. I agree, experienced operators could use brake 1 or 2 as that gives a slower and more realistic stopping distance, especially with a long cut of cars. The bus looks fantastic. I appreciate the behind the curtain glimpse of your work station and where you edit your videos. I know how much work it is to film and produce videos and you are doing a fantastic job of sharing the hobby with others through your videos.-Tom
Thanks Tom...if you thought this episode was covering a lot...just wait until next weeks!?! Which drops in the next 5 mins or so. I have had a bust week, but took a little time this afternoon to reply to the comments from those who took the time to post. Thank you for always supporting the content I put out and hopefully, you'll enjoy the final two episodes this season. Take care and keep sharing your content.
p.s. Your latest blog post was great, it's subtle, but well worth the upgrade: tinyurl.com/5e3m7n7j
Another great video. Was fun to see where you put the show together. And the bus looks great!
The workspace isn’t overly grand, but it gets the job done. Thanks for the kind words & for tuning in.
William,
Can you show off that 70’s Chevy P/U behind the bus?
It is spot on with color & trim!
Another great episode!
I believe that truck was covered in the past, but I'll see if I can't sneak in a better look at it in the "Finale". As I've got an orange version, that could stand to be completed.
THANK YOU FOR GREAT VIDEO
FROM AUSTRALIA
Thanks for tuning in & posting Robert, all the way from Australia 🇦🇺 It’s great to hear you’re enjoying the content.
Another great episode, you have probably shown this before but I haven't been able to find it of removing Factory logos for decals. You're an amazing resource and extremely entertaining to watch.
I have covered the technique, but I can't recall which episode it is in, to save my life. I'll cover it again in the finale next week...creating a unique SW1200. Spolier Alert: I use Super Clean in conjunction with a small piece of paper towel. Keep it as controlled as possible (It doesn't effect the base paint, but will remove any surface lettering/stripes). I Hope this helps. Sorry for the delay in response, but I try and provide helpful replies. Thanks for tuning in and commenting. Best of luck!
That bus looks great!
Thanks Jeff, it just needs billboards & it’s done.
Thanks for showing us how you make these great videos
My pleasure! So glad you enjoy the content Mike. It's always great to hear from you.
Great video, I’m glad I found your channel. 👍
Thank you, it’s great to hear more fellow modelers are finding the videos of interest.
Oh the glue! That one Scale Trains video where that girl in China had that puddle of glue that seemed to never dry, I want some of that!!!!!
YES!!! That's what I'm talking about...I'm sure it gets the user high as a kite, but if well ventilated? One could be in good shape.
Those Rapido Buses are incredible, and you sure did take it up to notch 8. I can't wait for my buses to arrive, thank you for another inspiring video.
That’s great to hear, you ordered some? Hands down the nicest buses out there (in my opinion). Thanks for tuning in and for posting.
The bus really turned out well.
Thanks Kevin, that red scheme may have been remembered by yourself or others in the 70's to mid-80's. A nice little piece to have on the railroad. Thanks for tuning in and posting. Have a great weekend!
♪ ♫ another one rides the bus ♫ ♪
Great job on the Rapido bus, came out absolutely fantastic. Love watching these every week, thanks for posting!
Just two weeks remain, what does one cover?!? Well, next week is done and I can’t resist looking at the SDL39’s…Overland vs ScaleTrains. Do I hear a Head-to-Head in the making?!?
Hey I like the little quick tip on the Proto Throttle braking. Great way of explaining it by using the Horn as a reference. Going to make some adjustments to my ESU Decoders now also. Did not know that there was a more aggressive rate I could set them to on the programmer.
Glad it was helpful! Little adjustments go a long way.
I love the tips bro! Thanks again!
“That’s gold Jerry! Gold!” Kenny Bania re: the paint stripper vile
I use it a lot for 1:87 vehicles. They fit perfectly in the small container.
Good episode! I hear you on the glue thing..
So many glues, so many applications, it's all about finding the right combination, right?
Sorry, I was with my puppy and may have missed it, how long do I keep the toothbrush in the bottle of urine? Great job on the bus. I’m surprised you didn’t add any ads inside. One of the best parts of riding the bus was reading the cheesy ads along the top. “Are you riding the bus because you crashed your car? Call Lebowski & Lebowski” Another jam packed episode of great information. I’m not a fan of slow braking locos but I know some love the realism. Already waiting for next week’s episode.
I believe ya leave the tooth brush in the toilet for at least 30 mins. The urine sample, needs to be sent to the lab ASAP. The ads crossed my mind, but the exterior ads are a must...we'll have to see who's crazy enough to tackle the interior ads. I totally recall looking at them and the route map. "Don't miss your stop!"
Idk if I shared this or not
A trick I use is duplicolor red primer under whatever color painting. When paint thin coats the edges or corners end up looking like the paint naturally wearing and rust starting to come thru. Works very well for corners or edges of cabs, doors, trucks, etc.
Would work great on set of wheels. I’ve never seen heavy truck wheels that don’t start to show age/rust within just a few years.
I do not believe you shared that bit of info. That's a great idea. Thank you for taking the time to watch, post and share. It's just to hear various tips & tricks from fellow modelers. Thank you!
@@SootheMilwaukeeRoad thank you for the content!
Have you ever tried Citadel Contrast paint? It was developed for war gamers but in true model RR style it’s been utilized for our purposes.
I saw elite194 has used it to paint locomotives; he has a few great videos as examples of its use. Following his experience I’ve used it to weather locos and rolling stock by matching a slightly “dirtier” color of the basecoat. Results help me avoid overusing a black or brownish wash on everything.
I have not, Citadel Contrast paint? I’m going to have to look into that. Thanks for noting it, you always bring great suggestions to your posts. I appreciate your feedback. As you’re spot on about the use of the brown washes being used to often. Many of us are guilty of that.
@@SootheMilwaukeeRoad no problem
All credit to Elite194. He has some great ideas.
Great Episode William! Can you use "Wash Away" on hands? Like Greasy Meathands? Asking for a friend!
😆 Thanks Andy. The Tamiya washes are a multipurpose product…we’ll know GM as GGM, Grimy Greasy Meathands.
Three glues you'll want. MEK, anything made from ABS will be bonded with MEK, which is 90% of the body details. CA, only thing that works on brass castings secured to plastic. Canopy glue, this is for holding anything clear like bulbs or windows but is also really tacky so good for Celcon parts like handrails and has enough elasticity that it works well for holding on etchings like walkways or grills. Celcon and etched parts are what most people complain about falling off. Not much sticks to Celcon, so design of the part is important. Etched parts fall off because the metal shrinks and expands at a different rate than the plastic and it'll break any hard-cured glue joint.
Hands down, one of the most informative posts. The breakdown you provide for each glue type is VERY helpful. So thank you for taking the time to share the difference and the types/applications to apply each.
@@SootheMilwaukeeRoad No problem. I should have probably clarified MEK. You can buy a gallon of it at a hardware store, but it's also the primary ingredient in a number of solvent style cements like Pastruct Weld, Tamiya Cement, ProWeld, Tenex-7R, almost all the adhesives in glass bottles with a brush built into the cap. Straight MEK is headache inducing while many of these others (Tamiya extra thin being my favorite) are less noxious to use.
Another entertaining video, thanking you. Although this episode deals with people in the bus, I ask...... Locomotive crews. When I see them pass by in videos-American trains, (because the crews here in New Zealand are sitting in smaller locos- 3' 6" gauge), they seem too big .... Getting back to American trains- in real life the crews look like they are N gauge sized people. So does one put N gauge crews in our H.O scale cabs? :-)
Good question! The scale of people is always a good one. I added them into my SDL39...the look decent in there, but you really have to look hard to know they're in there. The people in the bus were similar. I didn't file any of these down...felt the sat about right in the windows. In the end...it's an illusionary art...so if you can pull off an oversized N-Scale person, inside an HO cab, and nobody is the wiser...you'll have achieved your visual trickery. Keep up the great suggestions, thanks for tuning in and for posting.
I hit like but not subscribe because I’ve been subscribed for ages
How long is “for ages”? Is that anything like “oodles of time”? 🤔
Thanks for always tuning in.
@@SootheMilwaukeeRoad I guess I was very close to being a subscribe right back in the beginning. Way to long to remember exactly when.
However long it may be, I appreciate you for sticking with me. As I’ve evolved from the 6-7 minute sharing of content to these 15-20 minute variety shows.
@@SootheMilwaukeeRoad I think I go back with my subscription to your beginnings. I’m quite blind so using UA-cam is the most useful access I have to model railroading content. So you see for me (huge pun) your content is massively important. You do a great job and I thank you. You sort of feel like your my friend way over there in the states.
I think most MP15AC's were sold to UP. I've been inside one of them. I think they got sold a few years ago or went to other parts of the system.
It's great to hear of first hand experiences. How a loco ran, it's interior condition, etc. Little bits of invaluable information. Thanks for tuning in and posting.
I like the bus finish, much better then the out of box look! Where did you get the characters in the bus?
The people inside the bus are from a set of unpainted Preiser people, that I picked up at a show. They were like a $1 for 100+ people...the downside, I had to paint them. Whcih, in this case, it wasn't to bad. However, if you look...it's Soo Line Red, Milwaukee Road Orange, GN Big Sky Blue, Railbox Yellow, Railroad Tie Brown...not the most diverse color palette, but it did the trick.
Once again another job very well done.
The whole three levels of braking can be great thing, or nerve racking thing. The 3 levels is only available on V5 decoders,, after watching a Tim Garland video I use a percentage of all three levels. So you can “ feather “ the brake. I need to get my newest sound installs synced with the pt settings, then I will take a video showing how I do it,, cause as of now,, I forgot. Lol. I need to get to my written notes.
Do you have the SDL’s set to the same accel rate as the MP15ac?, or is the MP15ac a “ switcher” setting?
I think the work on the bus is awesome,, it’s pretty freaking cool!
You're spot on Greg, with so many great observations. I like hearing what others are doing. As I always say, "There's no ONE way to do things, I just provide ANOTHER way to try something." At the end of the day, my goal is to enjoy the hobby. Your feathering method is a great way to go. I've left the SDL's set to their factory settings at the moment, but would like to try and get them dialed in to function more like my Overland SDL's...we'll see how all that goes. The MP15 is setup for switching, the SDL's are more road like in terms of pace. Thanks for tuning in and most importantly, thanks for posting. It's always great to hear from you.
That bus is amazing. You added everything but the smell. Are you Sponsored by Tamiya Panel Line Wash yet? #NotSponsored And what happened to that poor pink hopper in the opening scene? I am guessing Joe B. had something to do with that roofwalk.
You'd think Joe would have to do with a damaged hopper, but it's actually a gift from Dr. Dan. He had a duplicate # and gave it to me as a gift. So naturally, it has gone under repair and will find its way into service.
My daughter has already claimed it...so it may enter the fleet for kids ops. They run the RR, but switch out their own cars too. Like the Batman box car...that's my sons. They can pickup and spot "their cars" anywhere they'd like, but no cars are added or removed from the RR, without the VP of the Hiawatha's Districts approval.
Does the bus work off a battery or are the wires dropped thru the layout and hard wired ? Good episode as usual.
The photos/videos of the bud lit, it is connected to a 9V. Once a location is determined…it will need a way to power-up via the RR or an accessories BUS (terrible pun). 😆
Thanks for tuning in and hopefully the content is as fresh on the 3rd time through, as it is on the first time through. 😆 How does one get syndication royalties?!? 🤔
Whats the Blue & white stripe loco at the beginning of the video that has the SOO & MILWAUKEE ROAD logo on the side of the cab?
That is a side shot of a Northern Lines GP cab, that I took years ago and removed the logo. The color scheme changes for each season I produce...this season, it has an MN&S paint scheme. I've done Mile Rd, Soo Line and now MN&S...just to change things up.
I have questions... The wheels...how long did they dry? Additionally, did you do more than one layer? Thank you and that bus is awesome!!!
Solid question. I ended up putting 4 coats of primer on the wheels. Letting them dry for about 30 mins between coats. They’re also in a paint booth, with a drying light (I use a 150w shop light above the booth that gets rather warm…it helps cure the paint.
Thank you for the question and kind words.
