    Love every second...
    1970's-early 80's: Had some cousins living in Hastings. Every time we visited from Rice Lake, WI, they'd ask us: "What's the best thing to come out of Wisconsin? An empty bus!" Two cousins worked the M.O.W. of the Milwaukee Road, a third older cousin was a fireman for the Milwaukee... then, ironically he got a job on the Hastings Fire Department and retired 30 years later. The video seemed like only a few minutes. Glycol... Ever seen the ingredients of Fanta soft drinks? Fanta is a brand usually found in slushie machines... Polyethylene Glycol, also now known as PEG. Also loved those beauties, er, the line of MNS hoppers also in the background! Neat to see MNS SD39 #40 get renumbered to 6240.

      John, I’ll have to share your cousins joke about WI, with those I know from WI. Those cousins sure seemed to put together a nice career.
      Glycol is in all kinds of stuff…in fact, it was hard to find thing it was NOT in or used yo create. With so many complex molecules containing it as a base.
      It’s so great to hear the time flies, when 20 minutes can go by, just like that. 💨

    Once again I'm here playing catch up, just finished the last 3 episodes, great content as always, really enjoyed the SD39, they were one of my favorite locomotives on the SP, used to catch them coming out of Taylor yard in LA back in the mid to late 80's, couple of nice looking layouts you got to visit, I always like to watch for things that standout, methods that other modelers use at about 8:06 behind your dad I noticed the drawers under the end of the peninsula which I'll assume is rolling stock storage, I really like that idea, love the decor leading into your Hiawatha elevator area, that framed EMD sign was cool, nice view behind the scenes with the clutter and misplaced cars, we all experience that but sometimes when watching your videos everything is so squared away and its easy to think that everything is perfect and tidy in your space all the time, but you just showed everyone you deal with the same things we all do no matter our skill or level of ability, nice to see that little critter is still around, I really like that engine, also like the yellow arrow on the stick as well, Thanks for another great episode and for being part of my Saturday mornings, looking forward to the next episode

    • @SootheMilwaukeeRoad
      @SootheMilwaukeeRoad  Рік тому +1

      Great feedback. Reflecting back to the 80’s, makes for a fun memory.
      Great eye on car storage…I’d guess Joe’s storing cars in there as well. He does a LOT of custom resin & kit building.
      A number of pieces have been collected over the years for decor. My wife is amazing & has supported all the RR relics being put on display. The EMD is off a GP38-2.
      As for the RR, it gets congested from time to time, but takes less than 30 mins to clear & re-stage.
      Thanks for tuning in, honored to be a part of your weekly routine. Have a great weekend!

    Another fantastic episode! I saw that yellow beacon on the MN&S locomotive before you mentioned it and I am glad you explained it. Bob's prototype footage is always amazing to watch. It looks like you had a great time at the ops sessions. You are right, it is the people that make the hobby enjoyable. That windmill train on the club layout was great to see. That is one good thing about belonging to a club, it gives you the chance to run some trains that normally don't work on a smaller home layout. The Curmudgeon and I are the same when it comes to knowing the differences between covered hopper cars, I don't have a clue! All I want to know is the car number and where is it going during an ops session. Nice to see your layout again even in its current state of controlled chaos. It is good that you showed everything is not perfect all the time. Already looking forward to the next episode.-Tom

    Great Video .was that a 386 CPRAIL cylindrical hopper? They were used in my area for loading a very fine sand used in polish and toothpastes. A lake freighter would drop off the sand at Indusmin in Midland Ontario and refine the sand further. CPRAIL would then move the hoppers to Medonte where a passing southbound freight off the McTier sub would take the string away.

    Though not my road, the era is the same. Brings back a lot of memories from my childhood seeing the piggy-back cars with the semi-trailers on them. Grew up in New Haven, IN just east of Ft. Wayne. Very much a train town! I'm working on a small HO switching layout that works some of the industries between New Haven and Ft. Wayne back in the late 70s.
