"Forest Spirit" is just referencing the phyisical resistance and magical attacks abilities which are the result of the "Forest Spirit" trait. It is similar to "Ethereal" but less extreme.
Man I really love your videos, both the guides and the multiplayer ones. You seem to be quite the fan of this franchise, and since I have found this channel, I started liking more Total War: Warhammer. Keep up the good job and stay classy :D btw you are now my main scource of learning about the game ;)
Durthu coupled with some tree kin and a branchwraith as a front line are insane. There's hardly anything in the game that can kill them quickly enough to avoid being torn to shreds by the archers.
love how theres mechanics in the game that hurt the wood elves potential and will never be fixed. arrows hitting trees when shooting from inside woods, shooting at enemies running up hill makes them shoot into the ground trying to lead the targets, and archers who shoot while moving target like 3 models and waste like 90 percent of their arrows in overkill shots
I don’t play multiplayer so I don’t know how they fair in matchups but I can only play their campaign for the first fifty turns before I want to die. Amber shouldn’t be a thing and they need a castor to buff armor or melee so that late game doom stacks with full garrison siege battles possible without having to put all of my range units close to the wall and clear them then get them on said wall and pick off any stragglers and pray they don’t run out of arrows or you will have to send in your low armor melee if you have any in your army at the time or let your elite archers die pointless because amber won’t let you bring in better monster units. It would also be nice if they maybe made a new unit for them so that their tiny roaster with little to no doom stack units could be filled out with more late game melee troops who could maybe have armor or a skill the makes them really resistant to missile fire. I like how they are a glass cannon faction but having to pray that armies attack you on the field so that your ranged units can pepper them so that your low armor melee units can finish them off gets boring if that is the only kind of battle they can fight. Even if they had no amber I would probably still not have any monster units because they can’t climb walls but if they could that would also make them useful in the late game.
Really enjoying your videos! You're not being to sarcastic och fooling around to much, yet easy-going and positive. And great skills!Presentation is also great
Great guide mate! Been trying to figure out how best to use the Great Eagle for a while now, hadn't thought to use him like Shock Cavalry. He's like a more maneuverable, less tanky Wild Rider, with sweet attack animations. Love that Chicken Nugget
The wardancers have physical resistance due to their magical tattoos and their surnatural reflexes. In the board game it translates in an "invulnerable saving" a sort of armor that can not be reduced or overcome, most of the time.
Dude, your videos are amazing! I've watched pretty much all of your warhammer content now so when you upload something new I get all giggly! Keep doing what you do, the popularity of your channel will surely rise with these kind of videos you are putting out! Thanks a ton! :)
This was really helpful. Thanks dude. I'm in a multiplayer campaign right now and while I'm very familiar with Total War, I still know almost nothing about the Warhammer games (love the lore though). I'm loving the wood elves so far
Oh Yeah!!! I figured you'd make one of these at some point, great job as always! These guide videos you do are some of the best in the community. Can't wait to see the follow up, and looking forward to watching your next campaign video. Keep on Keeping on!
Zerkovich, what are the chances that you could do a Counter Guide series? Specifically where you focus on the individual factions weaknesses and how to exploit them with various unit types, from different factions. I would be especially interested in this information for wood elves because taking them down in the mid/late game in ME is such a pain in the ass.
Necro-Potato I’ve found that the easiest way to deal with the undead in general is by targeting their lords first. You wipe them out, and their forces will crumble pretty quickly. Once the lord(s) is out of the way, it’s just a matter of outlasting the troops.
I would love to know how to deal with, say, the High Elves. The easiest way that I’ve found is hit their settlements with Pestilent Priests and then throw a maxed-out army or two at it.
By the way, I don't know if you have already figured it out, but the 'Forest Spirit' trait is only important for the campaign. Durthu can recruit them the usual way, while Orion needs to pay with amber. On the other hand, Orion can recruit units with 'Forest Stalker' the usual way, while Durthu needs to pay amber for them.
Wardancers: Shadow Dances of Loek isnot only for the animation and their 20% phisical resistance is not only for "some reason" jaja, there is a link between both, representing their ability to shiv attacks. Great video btw :)
I played the tabletop game as a kid a few times some 25 years ago+ and we randomly drew our sides. I got wood elves. From what I remember they were pretty expensive and were basically an army of skirmishers. You tended to be outnumbered and needed to be pretty sharp at moving to the best positions all the time because if you get caught then you are in trouble. Sounds like this has transferred through to the game. They look cool though.
they do seem to have a far number of vanguard units. If you start out with a front line of dryads with wild riders placed behind them could start a very effective Hammer and anvil very early on.
I think that Forest Spirit trait's really just so you can see at a glance if you'll need Amber to recruit them in campaign or not. At least when on the Great Eagles.
If I may bother you with one question. You said that it is not a good idea to use armor piercing units against lightly armored foes. Why is this? Do lightly armored units take less damage from AP attacks, or is it because armor piercing is a rather rare ability and using it on a lightly armored enemy is not using it to its full potential?
A bit of both to be honest. But mostly the 'potential' thing. E.g If a unit of Black Orcs has to fight 2 units of Chaos Marauders before it fights a unit of Chosen, they're gonna be beaten up before they reach the Chosen, then probably lose. So ideally get someone else to deal with the Marauders, so the Black Orcs can deal with the big boys unscathed.
I think the most pleasing aspect of the wood elves is how complete the roster are in comparison to the table top. Everyone is in there, saved only by the twilight sisters and lady Ariel herself. Mods already filled those minor gaps, also the glade general (hero, melee). Unlike every other army in this damn game (saved only by TK following what a friend said to me, their roster is "complete", bone giants were substituted by cooler monstrous units).
Yeah I know it's a popular one. But I'm not a huge fan of mods generally. Mainly just because of time. There's so much to play out there, regular TW:Warhammer is enough for me. Plus it does alienate a lot of people if I make a video on certain mods. I think some TW UA-camr covers mods though? Thanks for the idea all the same!
Ahh man, i Love your tutorials thats why i suggested it haha! Its alright though, to each his own. Ill have to look for guides on the Radious mod. Cheers though lad! Appreciate the reply!
Hey Zerk, sorry for the late comment as I have been busy. Well done on the video. I noticed that any of the issues I had with the previous ones in the army guide series have been remedied. Just that little extra bit of polish. The speed is also good, you switch nicely from taking your time to describe something new in detail to quickly going through any repeating abilities or similar units. Despite it being a fairly long guide there is no tedium as a result of that as well as the flavour you add with your occasional humorous remarks. Sorry dude, I wish I could criticise something to give you some useful improvement points but I'm afraid you delivered something quite solid, hehe. Well there is one thing. The Wildwood Rangers. You mentioned they don't have to worry about taking charges from large units to the face right? Well from what I saw in the tooltip they only benefit from this bonus if they are in a forest. Outside of the trees they are going to take full charge damage. Also you wondered about the Shadow Dances trait on the Wardancers and the Forest Spirit one on the eagle right? My impression is that such traits often denote a collection of bonuses. The Shadow Dances description speaks of how agile the elven ladies are which explains their resistance to physical and the ability buff they have. Both point towards dodging enemy attacks using their superior agility. The Forest Spirit one speaks of being resistant to mundane damage whilst dealing magical damage. This would indicate the physical resistance and magical damage on the Dryads, Tree kin and Treemen. I think the trait being on the eagle is merely an oversight on the developers part. Eagles aren't forest spirits, they are animals. Which explains why the trait is there, but not the bonuses. Likewise that might explain why the Eternal Guard do not have Armour Piercing in their trait list whilst certainly possessing that trait. Speaking of the trait list, there's a tiny golden arrow on the bottom right which I've never seen anyone hover over or click on. Does that do anything? Kinda looks like it would open a next page.
Thank you boss man. **fist bump** That seems to be correct about the Wildwood Rangers. There's always something I forget/overlook in these haha. Good spot. The inevitable error that will annoy me to no end now :P Yeah, that all sounds possible. Good old CA being clear as mud as usual. That tiny arrow gives a fancy description of the unit. Haha.
Your gr8, just found you! Will you make a Vampire army Guide too? didnt find one... i suck in multiplayerbattles...would be gr8 to get some guides for vampire =)
[Sorry for the long post!] I really enjoyed this one too and I look forward to the next episode of your Argwylon campaign! I haven't had time to play the Elves yet. First I moved and didn't have time to unpack the computer and then I went on a long vacation, but since it's my main army in the tabletop game, I look forward to it. Judging by your descriptions and what I have seen in the campaign battles, they seem to have captured the strengths and weaknesses of individual units quite well. I have a question, though. Since much of the Wood Elf army is made up of glass cannons, how do you think they should be played, in general? Break the enemy quickly, of course, but how, on a practical level? What I often did with the Germanic troops in Rome: Total Realism (where they were more historical and basically all lightly armoured fierce fighters with some javelins to throw too) was to retreat along the whole line, try to separate one of the heavy units of the enemy, strike it from two sides, break it and run again. It took a lot of time, but it generally worked if my troops didn't get too tired. But the Wood Elf troops are so expensive. It's rather likely that the WE player will constantly face more numerous armies and then it can be very hard to run or to do hammer and anvil tactics (because the anvil breaks before the hammers have hit all the adversaries in the back). How do you think that general problem should be solved?
I'd like to do them for all factions but they're massively time consuming, so until I can do this full time, I'm only really doing the DLC factions for now.
Hey man great vid! I love watching all of your guides, as not long ago i was losing almost every battle, but now I actually stand a chance of winning a few! Also, what map is in the background during the 'Army Traits' scene?
if you play the wood elves quests and objectives correctly then money wouldn't be much of a problem. I have 2 full stack armies guarding each of my tree provinces encase someone gets any idea of pissing my surroundings i'll just go over them and raze them to the ground. and also chaos hordes are a no problem to wood elves 2 vs 2 stacks of army per battle anytime anywhere.
I know this is late, but the Forest Spirit classification likely refers to the campaign, where as the Wood Elves it costs Amber to recruit Forest Spirit units.
its 2021 and the wood elves archers are not to be taken lightly in melee combat.. yes they got the lowest armor in town, but they definitely have the highest dexterity that makes them last very long when intercepted. and enemy artillery is just a piece of chicken to them because they run faster towards the enemy long before the projectile hits the ground. and the archers can manuever while shooting at the same time. very bad ass. the chaos knights just gets tired of chasing them while being annihilated slowly.

I have 2 full stack armies guarding each of my tree provinces encase someone gets any idea of pissing my surroundings i'll just go over them and raze them to the ground. and also chaos hordes are a no problem to wood elves 2 vs 2 stacks of army per battle anytime anywhere.
Legend
Didn't know Obi Wan played Total War xD
I know this is late, but the Forest Spirit classification likely refers to the campaign, where as the Wood Elves it costs Amber to recruit Forest Spirit units.
The elves monster units really make or break their army
It's so sad that they got no tweaks from the Potion of Speed patch.
Does the SpellSingers actually sing when they cast their Spells?
For me Hawk Riders are the most beautiful units in the game.
its 2021 and the wood elves archers are not to be taken lightly in melee combat.. yes they got the lowest armor in town, but they definitely have the highest dexterity that makes them last very long when intercepted. and enemy artillery is just a piece of chicken to them because they run faster towards the enemy long before the projectile hits the ground. and the archers can manuever while shooting at the same time. very bad ass. the chaos knights just gets tired of chasing them while being annihilated slowly.
Doesn't forest spirit trait give units this phisical resistance? I though it was about that.
That's what I thought and I think that is the case, but it doesn't say it on the unit card so... Confusion.
are there similar guides for all the other factions as well? thank you
Only the Beastmen. I'd love to but they take so much time to do! This isn't my full time job unfortunately... yet... :D
Hey Zerkovich you have probably said this somewhere but when do you stream and do you ever stream Total War Games?
I intend to, but don't as of yet!
Also, great guide. :D
This needs updated
do they really have good infantry though?
