Brilliant! The best (Hammond organ) cover of this classic rock tune, which is immediately recognizable to practically everyone. Nice work you've done! You brought a tear to my eye. Thank you!
@@mokusmisi Wow, I was just thinking of shopping for a Hammond organ because of this tune and others and then I ran into your reply. I am a beginner self taught on a digital piano and I mostly use the organ sounds, rarely the piano voicings. Nice to know how you made the decision to get a Hammond. I really enjoy your playing and presentation! I wish you all the best and great holidays!
You have inspired me to crank the old C-3 up again after several years of down time, so thank you! BTW, yours is a beautiful rendition of this timeless classic! 🎹🎹🎹👍
Fabulous mastering of the B3 for a thrilling tune which brings so many good memeories of my youth... now that I am a happy retiree from France ! Lots of thanks, man !!! Francis
i cannot wipe the smile off my face after watching and hearing what you just did. and the Hammond sounds AWESOME.I love it- thanks for posting-its perfect-
Thanks for your nice words! This song is a best example of how a Bach melody can be transformed to a classical rock song with a help of the famous Hammond organ and a Leslie speaker... :-)
mokusmisi Tho it sounds alot like air, it has been mentioned in several interviews that they never listened to it. its just one of those coincidents that often happens that you borrow from other tracks without actually knowing of their existence.
mrdali67 i couldnt understand your comment at first, but I have just looked up 'Air' and i get it now....this is a tune we all grew up with in my era, and you could not help but hear it everywhere...I imagine the BBC saturated the airwaves with this piece when these fellows were growing up....i dont see how Mathew Fisher? could have escaped learning it or at least hearing it when he was learning to play- i do know that he first heard the Hammond from being friends with Ian MacLagan , of the Small Faces- and he used top borrow Ian's Hammond all the time, and Ian finally got tired of that and said HEY, why dont you get your OWN Hammond- (they were quite rare in England still ) and so he DID...and Immediately wrote this song, and look what happened as a result-
You are the tops ! I'm just fascinated watching what keys are used when hearing this masterpiece. This is the song that made me find others like Keith Emerson, Tony Banks and many others that deserve praise.
Matthew Fisher, the organist who deserves all the credits for this organ part is still alive. And sadly he still grieves about being deprived the royalties for A Whiter Shade of Pale by Gary Brooker. Imagine this song without that organ part. Would it be of the same importance in rock music history?
Excellent organ cover + the original sung by Gary Brooker (?) gorgeous! This song is one of the best souvenirs of my youth (I was just 10 when it was released) in 1967. This song makes me thrill.
Thanks! :-)) This piece was recorded by my virtual collaboration band:ua-cam.com/video/w3tsW3HqedE/v-deo.html&pbjreload=101 and my American friend Len Audsley sang it.
My Cousin used to have Vox Continental and finder Rhodes 66 and I was always fascinated by the heavenly music of the 60s and most of hour generation played by ears because we were blessed by the best of the best of the 60s and 70s
Thanks! Fortunately I was able to buy a "Real" Hammond organ in 2002, but I was only this year able to record the cover of this masterpiece playing my "Real Hammond"
Thanks for your nice words! :-) I am only an ethusiastic amateur who tries to play/perform masterpieces created by world class musicians on my way as pecise as possible.... :-)
I recently had the chance to do it live with a couple of singers on a 126 year old church organ, though we only did the short version. Lots of fun, though. @@mokusmisi
Hi from the U.K. Super playing, could you please give the drawbar settings and how you set the organ up (percussion, etc). I have a Viscount Legend Live and would love to get a similar sound. Thankfully the song is not too difficult (god bless the key of C) !!
Thanks! :-) I do not have experience with the Legend, but the settings on the Hammond B-3X virtual organ are the followings: upper dawbars: 788800000, lower drawbars: 006553000, percussion volume: soft or normal, depending on how the percussion volume set in the factory, percussion decay: long, overdrive: 20-25%, Reverb: long, 35% wet. I think you can come quite close to the original sounding if you played a littlée with the settings. Have Fun! :-)
Really Nice and well done ! Congatulations from a French organ player ! Let me tell you about what happened to me when I was 17 (I am now 56): I was at this time learning organ after a few years on the piano , my father came back home with a friend who was managing an dancing band and as that man was looking for a keyboard man, my dad was expecting for me to get the job.. The guy asked me to play that part on the organ we were owning at home, a Crumar organ with drawbars, and I tried to do my best but just playing what I've anderstood by ear, it was a disaster and i did not get the job! Since I've been working many times on that song and now I am not so bad with it, but playing all the right notes by heart needs to be concentrate! Thanks again and what about something else? Conquistador?
Sorry for not being able to get that job! About "Conquistador": this is a masterpiece, but my interest is more towards the classical rock, like ELP, Deep Purple etc. I also like rock music wich have classical music origin like the "Hamburger Concerto" from Focus: ua-cam.com/video/9RYxjShJdzs/v-deo.html, or the "Brandenburger Concerto" form The Nice: ua-cam.com/video/EDB9Xr7jaXU/v-deo.html or the "Barbarian" from the ELP: ua-cam.com/video/__q15x1j0kg/v-deo.html
What an iconic B3 song!! You know your B3. The tone was spot on!! Just curious, for your fans who probably will never own a B3, do you play with B3 simulators like Garageband, Galileo? The glissandos are what make the B3 talk, but simulators, not so much.....
Thanks! .-)) My Hammond organ is A102 which is more or less the same as the B3. I play that nice instruments only at home because it is too heavy to carry not to talk about the Leslie speaker... In the concerts I play my Hamichord organ which generate the Hammond sound through a VB3 virtual organ plugin. You might be interested in to listen to the live version of the same cover played by my amateur band "Artons" ua-cam.com/video/VQO_lGp5lew/v-deo.html
If any song has been imported from heaven to earth, then this must be the one,for sure; and the organist plays it wonderfully.
