      I'm not trying to be mean, and I've definitely seen worse comedians, but I'm curious how this set would do with an audience not primed to laugh at the drop of a hat. I have a lot of respect for road comics, and the holes they have to dig themselves out of (with bad crowds or after flubbing a delivery etc). Julio is a comedy writer and actor, rather than a stand up, and I guess I find his low energy prop comedy kind of... safe and gimmicky? Demitri Martin's concepts seemed a lot more clever and fleshed out. Anyways, good luck to him.

      @@waltonwb
      ...If I was there, I'd be asking for my money back. Of course, tv shows are free so no refund. One unknown trick tv shows have is that they plant professional "laughers" in the audience. This, in turn, creates the illusion of being the funniest guy in the world, plus laughter is contagious. So other people laugh when otherwise they wouldn't.
      I don't see his humor at all. And I love comedy. Heck, even Steven Wright is 1000x better. And his shtick is a monotonous delivery. This kid reminds me of a little boy playing imaginary with his toys. Only funny too him. I see Jimmy Fallon cracking up back there, but he's always doing that to EVERY guest. Great comedians are universally appealing, no matter what background. This kids humor is very limited. Didn't reach me AT ALL.

    • @waltonwb
      @waltonwb 4 роки тому +2

      @@oldschoolfunkster1 Sure! You make a lot of sense. I would only add that comedians with different backgrounds can add another 'layer' of humor to those in the know (if that makes sense?) I guess what I mean is representation is great in comedy, but it should be secondary. Someone called his sets 'anti-hegemonic comedy' (maybe in these comments?) I'm against hegemony, but also that kind of thinking as it relates to comedy really is cancer.

It’s like he breathed a fresh brand of new life into that stale and cliched old trope of the irrepressible style of dry British deadpan humour, yet in my opinion, this young man revived it into something way much funnier. What a delightful treat, I’m so gleefully happy right now……and deservedly so in my opinion because I’ve had an atrocious night and this just goes to show that laughter truly is the best medicine at times.
