I bought the aegis elite custom 45 for myself for Father’s Day this year. I’ve put 400 rounds thru it so far and have had absolutely no malfunctions. Gun runs perfectly. And it is a tack driver. I’ve owned 4 kimbers now, and none of them have ever malfunctioned. Definitely recommend.
@Kyle Cress That's great to hear. Kimber sometimes have spotty reputation but my understanding it was older models. I only had to get rid of two because of multiple issues. However my other Kimbers are fine. The Aegis Elite are tack drivers. Thanks for watching, greatly appreciate it!
I have had mine for more than a year now, and have never experienced a stoppage, or for that matter, anything negative. I have long been a proponent of the 1911, but still own H&K as well as other manufactures, but found that the lighter Aegis Elite, in 9mm, was faster back on target then the sharper recoil of the .45 cal. It took me about a half hour of dry firing, to get used to the Red Dot of the Venum Vortex, and that settled it for me, it is now my “go-to” weapon. Next is to locate a spare barrel to attach a can.
I'm checking out the Kimber line and like the Rapide Scorpius and what a beautiful pistol it is. And this one as well with optics is interesting. I won't a new 45 1911 but often a range trip with a hundred rounds running my H.K with three inch barrel the shoulder isn't what it used to be. By the time I get to fifteen yards on my drill my shots started to spread inside the nine , this pistol looks to be a great choice the way it's set up as I need to explore the optics, man that's a handsome pistol, Enjoy !
Great review and commentary. Been eying this gun since it first introduced. I seem to keep buying guns as I see them and keep forgetting to seek this out. I just bought a Walter Q5 Match a month or so ago, and while doing the paperwork etc I saw private sale for a Ruger Redhawk in 44 w 7.5” barrel that I jumped on. I need to put this not just on the radar but in the acquisition plan so to speak. Love the aesthetics, very pretty hunk of steel.
@Chris Martinelli Congrats on your recent pickups, nice firearms. I love the Aegis Elite Custom, you can't go wrong with either the 9mm or 45acp versions. Thanks for watching, greatly appreciated.
What a great birthday gift to yourself 👍👍👍. I want the Colt Gold Cup Trophy 9mm as my next purchase . Just have to save up some more gun money . House money and gun money are separate . Lol .
@Dave Gass They didn't have the Trophy but they had to Rail Gun in 9mm. I was giving Kimber another chance and they hit it out the park. The Trophy is an awesome firearm, you can't go wrong.
Thanks for the review. It’s interesting many people think it’s “heresy” for a 1911 to be chambered for 9mm when the original Colt Commander (which was an AL frame) was chambered in 9mm for military trials. 🧐
Keanon Gilliam There are good reasons to go 9mm. Bullet performance with modern bullets in 9mm is arguably on par with the .45ACP and, as most LEOs are moving towards it or have already done so that is likely to continue. .38 Super, as an example, could be viewed as a 9mm +P+, but typically only if handloaded. With commercial loads the 9x18 is likely to out perform it simply because that is where Hornady, Speer, etc are spending dev time. I may stick w .45ACP if I get a LW Cmdr if only for magazine compatibility and to only have one cartridge to bulk stock, but not because I think it is inherently better at the job of solving a serious social situation better than 9x19. That said, the FBI report DOES say the primary indicator of performance in handgun rounds is both penetration and permanent wound cavity, and an expanded .45ACP in HST for example is larger than the same Bullet expanded in 9x19. I think that is an academic exercise primarily though for modern rounds. Hitting your target seems to be commonly accepted as the most important factor! I was told years ago when I asked what weight ball I should use for bowling that I should throw the heaviest one I could throw accurately. Similar advice is probably reasonable for handgun cartridges. Kate
@@thepath6155 I retired from LE. I started with 38spl, then 9mm. Later the stopping power wasn't up to par so I went to Glock 21 45acp. When i retired they went back to 9mm because technology for ballistic got better. Federal HST is what I carry in my 9mm and 45acp.
@@KeanonGilliamSlang369 Thanks for the comment. I may talk myself into going with a 9mm LW Commander after all and just keep the 1911A1 for my "bedroom" gun :) I am getting old, and probably will shoot the 9 better in that platform!

very attractive pistol even though my "normal" combat pistol preferences are more along the HK / Sig Sauer / Glock / Beretta / CZ et cetera. Is my assumption correct that Kimber practically disregards the 40 S W ( at least I do not recall corresponding models) ?
