      @@oanarusuungureanu1309 - I really appreciate hearing various options for preparing these teas. I gather there are different opinions as to the best method for making medicinal herbal teas - "infusions/decoctions". The roots/stems need to be medium simmered for a bit to help extract their nutrients. Then if you notice in the video, after simmering the roots on medium, I turn the heat down to the lowest setting where there is basically no activity in the pot but it is keeping the water a constant warm temperature so as to gently extract nutrients from the leaves and flowers. There are no water bubbles, no boiling, just a nice warm constant temperature. Generally, the temperature of the lowest setting on a stovetop is 195 degrees Fahrenheit (90.5 Celsius). This is under the 200 - 210 degrees Fahrenheit (93.3/98.8 Celsius) generally recommended for brewing/infusing/decocting herb leaves and flowers. So be sure that you have your stovetop set to its lowest setting - and make sure you see no bubbling in the water - before adding your leaves and flowers. And it is only for 15 minutes not the 48-72 hours that is recommended for a more significant extraction of the volatile/essential oils. You may find the information for preparing herb teas provided by the Simple Loose Leaf Tea company interesting. They recommend simmering herb tea on low for 5 -15 minutes for the best enhanced flavor. You can read more here: simplelooseleaf.com/blog/herbal-tea/how-to-brew-herbal-tea However, all of this said, definitely do that with which you feel most comfortable. Also, I looked into what you recommended but I think the gal is basing her information on a study that was done with rats who were given high doses (much higher than recommended human doses) of peppermint oil or just the extract of menthol for 28 days that went on to demonstrate some liver toxicity. But another study where the rats were treated with a recommended does of peppermint oil for their body weight protected their livers and kidneys from induced oxidative stress. You can read more here: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5761127/ There is so much to learn about herbs and their healing properties. As the saying goes...everything in moderation. So glad you're here and thank you again for sharing sharing your info. Love, Mary

    THANK You, Mary, for including the important information about caution when it comes to medicinal plants. I’ve studied medicinal herbs. I cringe when people take a non-chalant attitude about herbs, saying,”oh, it’s safe because it’s natural”. Nothing can be further from the truth. There are MANY medicinal herbs that will kill you, or at least permanently damage your organs, if not administered correctly, and by someone who knows what they are doing.
    Great video!

    • @MarysNest
      @MarysNest  3 роки тому +2

      Thank you so much for the kind words. Yes, I always advise caution. As my son is fond of saying..."A lot of things are naturally occurring...including Radium...and look what happened to Marie Curie!" Yes, always take caution with all things in nature. They are more powerful than we realize. Thank you so much for being here and sharing your wisdom. Love, Mary

    Lovely Mary, have you your own version of the ESSIAC tea?
    ESSIAC contains 4 herbs: sheep sorrel, slippery elm bark, burdock root, and rhubarb root.
    Some ESSIAC contains 8 herbs: the above + watercress, thistle, red clover blossom & kelp.
    My second question would be: What is your recommended herbal tea which strengthens the immune system?
    THANKS A LOT

    My paternal grandmother made THE BEST flavored made from scratch hot tea!! I've never had tea that tasted as good as hers! I only saw her assemble all her herbs once and I was so young I couldn't even begin to know what she used. Her recipe died with her. Thanks for sharing. Lee called a few times as it looked Daniel's angelsense tracker's map showed Daniel was running in the woods although he was at home (we got it since lately he's been wandering off during our walks). Sometimes the GPS confused if we're in the car or it's in Daniel's clothing. It was tucked behind his shirt. Plan to order their belt this month and maybe their waterproof case next month as I also have to pay their monthly service fee. Called Dad to give me a ride to Staples tomorrow so I can pick up more toner for my laser jet printer to print out Daniel's school work. It's too far away for me to walk to. We had a few days of cool high temps and below freezing overnight temps. Things are though going to warm back to our usual seventies for the high and fifties for the low in a few days. Our pollen levels have been medium to high since two weeks before Spring started.

    Can you make medicinal without the tea

  • @ConnietheVirgo
    @ConnietheVirgo 3 роки тому +1

    Hi Mary, im wondering if you know that you shouldnt infuse this way, that you shouldnt infuse herbs that are high in volitile oils, like peppermint, lavender, etc, the ones that have a strong scent, that it can damage the liver because its like an essential oil then. Some call these nourishing herbal infusions, and they are so good to get all the soluable properties. Just wondered if you knew that. I love your channel! Theres a channel called "she is of the woods", and she is an herbalist who explains these things. Take care.

      Hi Connie, Thank you for the kind words...and...Thank you so much for sharing your input. I really appreciate knowing various options for preparing these teas. I gather there are different opinions as to the method for making medicinal herbal teas - "infusions/decoctions". Yes, the roots/stems need to be simmered for a bit to help extract their nutrients. Then if you notice in the video, after simmering the roots, I turn the heat down to the lowest setting where there is basically no activity in the pot but it is keeping the water a constant warm temperature so as to extract the nutrients from the leaves and flowers There are no water bubbles, no boiling, just a nice warm constant temperature. And it is only for 15 minutes not the 48-72 hours that is recommended for a more significant extraction of the volatile/essential oils. However, that said, definitely do that which you feel most comfortable with. So glad you're here and thank you again for sharing this info. Love, Mary

      @@ConnietheVirgo - Oh Connie!! Of course!! I am on a journey and always so interested in learning new things! I looked into what you recommended but I think the gal is basing her information on a study that was done with rats who were given high doses (much higher than recommended human doses) of peppermint oil or just the extract of menthol for 28 days that went on to demonstrate some liver toxicity.
