Now I have about $8k worth of camera I’m using that I’ve hiked in. This guy hops out and I can’t see anything but a dark figure as it’s so dark out. He walks up and before I could say a word, he jumps.. like he was startled which scared the shit out of me. Then, he said “holy shit, man! I didn’t see you right there!” And I said “holy shit, man! I did the similar thing some twenty years ago when it was not so strictly prohibited. It was a winter and when we decided to go down from the watch tower darkness came way faster than we expected. We had to find our way back through the woods on one foot snow with a temperature 15 below Celsius. Things could go unimaginable had we not found the trail back. Almost every year people lost lives on that part of the wall these years. Besides the wall was really not in the best condition to withstand climbers. Hi Mike, I just want to say that I so appreciate your journey through China and “taking me on” with you. I left China for the UK to study when I was 16 and have not been home since. Living here along have made it extra hard to cope with the sentiment of confrontation from both sides of the ocean. 7:29 It is Introduction to Zhengbei Tower. The Zhengbei Tower is located in the Jiankou Great Wall. It is a Ming Dynasty building built on a dangerous cliff. It is one of the most famous dangerous sections of the Ming Dynasty Great Wall. The Zhengbei Tower is very sophisticated in construction technology. The upper layer has four layers of ice plate eaves, the middle layer has three layers of chicken gizzard eaves, the base is a 13-layer chopped axe stone, the arch door is made of stone with carvings, the arch window is an eight-shaped mouth, the inside of the enemy tower is a corridor double ladder style, and there are two ventilation brick carvings with money eye patterns on the south wall. The General Pass where the Zhengbei Tower is located was built during the Yongle period of the Ming Dynasty. The eastern wall of the pass still exists today. There is an enemy tower, which is called "Zhengbei Tower" locally. Only the base about 6 meters high remains. There is a arch door on the inner side of the wall near the tower. There is a courtyard to the south of the gate. There is a natural columnar vertical stone about 6 meters high. It is said that the three characters "General Stone" were originally engraved on the stone, and the year was signed. Now the handwriting has been blurred.
Thank you, Mike, thank you so much. I am Chinese but I never saw theGreat Wall like that never. You give me this opportunity to watch this video and to know how beautiful it is. It's amazing.Thank you so much. Welcome back to China again.
I've beenb writing a novel about world travellers for the last year or so, and i found your videos while i was writing my chapter in China. Thank you so much. This was absolutely wonderful, I've watched every video. And I love you!
It's been amazing watching this China series, just think of how many people have spent a night in that watchtower or overlooking the same mountain view in its 2,000+ year history, only for Mike to set up camp and make it his own. Amazing series, can't wait for what's next!
I'm no stranger to travelling but I've never been to China, so for the time being I'm thankful to be living these experiences vicariously through your videos Mike, at least until I can see this all with my own eyes one day. What a journey and what an ending. Well done man.
Dude I cannot wait to see where you go next. You should mix in some USA travels too! Hmu if you wanna come to Savannah GA and do some scary ghost stuff, I have a guest room w your name on it.
That view! 🤩I live near the start of the Great Wall, and over the years, we've explored the lesser-known sections. These hidden parts often lead to random encounters-local painters, photographers, or a group of elderly locals who had foraged wild mushrooms and were cooking up a "hotpot" picnic 🤣Finding a truly "lonely place" in China is harder than you'd think. The signs warning people away are usually there because the wall is in disrepair, though small groups still come especially during winter to take photos on the snow-covered days. Also a sunrise for some on the Great Wall can be auspicious. I like to cycle through the mountains to the original villages built for the workers of the wall and then from these villages explore the paths up to sections where just locals go. Keep on exploring 👍🏻
Your adventure reminds me of the encountering with a German tourist in the Great Wall a decade ago, who planned to spend a night on the Great Wall with just a couple of Chinese steam bread (馒头) as food supply. As a couch surfer, he is just as adventurous as you. Thanks for the awesome episode, I do enjoy it.
You did well mate. I lived in Beijing from 1996 to 2003 and visited the wall a few times. The touristy place is Baodaling where the wall is restored. where I went the most is SiMaTai where the wall is unrestored (well back then) and the scariest part is called The Eagles Nest. The floor on both sides of the Watchtower was broken and it was very steep, loose rock and pavers but the view from the watchtower was magnificent. From there you can walk to JinShanLing about 8km. You had to get off the wall in places cause it was so broken and farmers take some of the paving rocks for themselves. One day I was there I was with a Swedish guy and the temp was about 40 degrees Celcius but the architecture of the watchtowers is quite ingenious. Even on a 40 degree day they were cool and a breeze came through the slits even though you couldn't feel a breeze outside the towers. The other place on the wall I have been is at LaoLongTou (Old Dragon Head) which is the start of the wall on the Eastern end. The town is called ShanHaiGuan. Unfortunately it was foggy while I was there so zero views. They were great days out.
Thoroughly enjoyed this ep and series. Showing a perspective of China we don’t really get to see. Everyday people, interactions and breath taking frames. Excellent Mike👏
Incredible scene at the end. Only once in anyone's lifetime, and you did it. Thank you for all your episodes in China. It was amongst the best ever from you.
Mike, thank you so much for letting me see China in your lens. You are such a good spirit! I love you and your vibes, keep doing what you are doing! *Brohug*
The ending view blew my mind, INSANE. Cant believe this is the end of your China series. We have been so immersed in every bits of your journey all along. Really hope that you find a chance in the future to explore the rest of the country.
You should've asked Ding Haitao for the timelaps. It's a shame your China tour didn't finish with that. It would be a perfect nutshell of the whole journey, the kindness of people(who might had scared you), the landscape, the language barrier, in a timelaps showing times flying by. But still, a great video with a great ending. Thanks for showing us.
What a series. The Airforce base, Hitchhiking, Mr Chen, Real China, loads of ciggies. It’s been a ride. I’ll admit to being a little uncomfortable at the disregard of signage and subsequent trespassing but no harm was done I guess. That guy showing up in dead of night oh my days! Take it easy Mickey, until next time.
A Chinese right here really learned something about my own country from this series, it's a rare chance for me to know about the rural area in China and view such a gorgeous scenery on The Great Wall. Appreciate these genuinely.
Incredible series. As an american that hasn't even seen the borders of his country, I am truly blown away by your videos man. Thanks for showing all these countries in a true lighting that the news doesn't show
Mike, it's been a pleasure following you along for this journey. Waking up on the great wall with that view must have felt UNREAL. Seeing it second hand almost brought me to tears. Your videos really compete with some of the best travel content out there. Please keep going; there is so much potential here that the world just hasn't yet discovered. Can't wait to look back on your channel in 2Y and see you get the exposure and recognition you deserve. Cheers!
As a China person, I must remind you that this place is far away from the Great Wall tourist area and belongs to the unopened area called Wild Great Wall in Chinese. Before, some hikers liked hiking in these unopened areas, and they were finally recognized as missing. Because you are a foreigner, this move may be regarded as a diplomatic event, so it is best not to go into the forbidden area, although it seems that you have often entered the forbidden area.😅😅😅
I totally agree with that. It is somehow irresponsible to do such "adventures" to the forbidden places. Not only Mike is taking the risk to breaking the law in a foreign country, he may also be a bad role model who may encourage the later followers who find it fun to risk to go to these forbidden places. Likewise, it is so unwise regardlese of a local nor a foreigner would try to trespass a classified forbidden place and/or militarily sensitive area such as Area 51 Also, if anything bad happened (injury or dealth). It is not only his own issues but it easily raised to diplomatic tensions due to the hostility of some Western countries who are so against China in the recent years.
It is all about personal safety, nothing to do with diplomacy. I climbed around great wall area where nothing were officially opened, nobody cares. It is all up to you.
@@Josh385moni The reason why the Great Wall is closed here is that it is in disrepair and full of danger. Many bricks are hollow under the bricks because of long-term soil erosion. If you step on them carelessly, you may fall into the pit or fall down the mountain. Because it is a no-man's land, you may not be able to get timely rescue. In the end, it will become all kinds of anti-China conspiracy theories in the mainstream western media.
I love that you just remain yourself on camera and don't try to turn it all into a "show". The locations, situations and your reactions to them conveys really what travelling is really all about, so thanks for the vids.
Hi Mike! You are totally deserved for such amazing landscape with great Chinese history in the picture. As a Chinese I have never seen such great view even.

You have such a gift for story telling. This year i visited the great wall for the first time with my wife, albiet in the tourist sections, and I'd peered beyond the barriers to see the raw wall and hoped I could walk down it as you did. Lets just say those final scenes were bloody perfect. Thanks man, seriously.

Really admire you, amazing experience, scared me seeing someone in such a quiet remote place. Gosh...thank you so much for your video. Really enjoyed it.
15:00 As a Chinese, my eyes are filled by tears when I hear you speak out those sentenses sitting on the walls . I am very happy that someone like you living on another country can fell the same feelings as us. I really believe the civiliaztion in human beings are connected and common. I really hope all the people from different countries can say hello and sit together so share their good things as a true smart creatures.
The reason this part of the Great Wall is prohibited from climbing is simply because it has not been artificially developed and renovated, lacking protective facilities. Therefore, for safety reasons, entry is forbidden. But rest assured that you will not get busted, you will only receive a verbal warning from the police at most.

This is definitely on my bucket list, I would love to visit China and see all the epic history!!

Welcome..... China is waiting for your adventure ❤
We warmly welcome you to travel in China, and we recommend using the voice translation features of 通义千问 or ChatGPT. Their translations are highly accurate and can help make your trip more seamless.
Welcome, mate.
My partner and I did sth similiar a few years ago. Took a train and a cab to some farmers village, stayed with a local farmer for two nights, climbed and hiked the unrestored wall for two days. Haven't met anyone else while hiking & climbing and it was one of the highlights of our 14 months trip around Asia.
Looking forward to yoir next adventure and hope you'll share it with us Mike. Your way of travelling is exactly how I would do it too! Keep going buddy!
you could communicate with the local peasants ?
The best way 👍🏻supports local people and you still get to explore.
Did you organize with an app or website or something to stay with the farming village, or did you just arrive there and ask someone if you could stay?
Very much enjoyed watching this series! I don’t know why but the funniest part for me was when you were somewhere in a police station and a hand appears with a cigarette to give you lol.
It is a good representation of the hospitality in China. When I went you basically had no choice but to smoke, and you had lots of options 😅
😂😂😂 also one of my faves
Randomly found this channel a couple days ago and now have binge watched Vietnam, Indonesia and China. Very entertaining! Keep traveling!
I enjoy watching this China series. The last drone shot is absolutely stunning . Thanks for your videos.
Imagine 500 years ago, a soldier woke up in the same watchtower as you, looking at the beautiful mountains and rivers in front of him, missing his hometown, and defending his country……
China is a country with a history of 5000 years, and their understanding of all things in the world has far exceeded our imagination

The view at the end is absolute mind-blowing!
Mike, since I was a little kid I've been filling up my Google maps with different cities, places, countries; I got too many to be honest with you. But your stories really pushed me to f****** get out there and face the music no matter the hardship. Can't wait to have adventures like you someday. Blessings on the road, brother 🙏🏿
The greateset vedio series I have ever seen on UA-cam about a foreigner travelling in my homecountry China. Incredicble man, your trip is sooo cool!!!
Bro these china series were absolutly stunning, i think you inspired many people to visit these unntouched historical places and i implicate me as well. I fwouold be thrilled if you film a lot more of the world, maybe lost places in south america...
Big world and definitely a lot of years left in me to explore ❤️
One of the best UA-cam channels out there without a shadow of doubt. Down to earth, don't mind a bit of rule breaking, spontaneous, funny, prepared to take risks, makes all the urban explorer video producers pale in comparison. You're a treasure to watch. Where next?
As someone who has lived in China for a few years, I truly enjoyed this different side of China you were showing to the world. Sad to hear this series is coming to an end.
21:17 “I don’t think anyone watches these f***ing vlogs”. Actually Mike, I watch your f***ing vlogs mate 👍🏻❤

Hi Mike, I just want to say that I so appreciate your journey through China and “taking me on” with you. I left China for the UK to study when I was 16 and have not been home since. Living here along have made it extra hard to cope with the sentiment of confrontation from both sides of the ocean. Thank you so much for showing a side of China I have not even imagined before, and proving to me that there is a common language of hospitality, curiosity and kindness in both cultures! Wish all the best in your future adventure!! ❤
20:08 Also just want to add that I actually cried at this shot!
i left china in 04 and came back 10 years later let me tell you, china is not what it was early 2000s. im sure you can make a good living staying in china. stay with your fam.

Welcome to China asap 😎
As a Chinese, I must tell you that climbing the Wild Great Wall is very dangerous.
You may be attacked by wild beasts, struck by lightning, low temperatures, or fall. If something happens and there is no signal, nobody can help you.
I have watched almost every episode of your China series. There are only two other broadcasters on UA-cam whose Adventures around the world I have followed with great interest. Each of them including yourself have such incredible courage and adventurism and intrepid natures. Your series has entertained me incredibly. I send this because of your parting comment spoken on the Great Wall. Please keep doing what you do
Cloud sea is so stunning, this series is absolutely good. I guess you are in the way to your next adventure although a little sad that you already left China, good luck man.
The ending is astonishing! Thanks you!!!

Ive really enjoyed this series Mike. Thank you for sharing your journey. Its really inspired me.
Happy to hear that!

It's been amazing watching this China series, just think of how many people have spent a night in that watchtower or overlooking the same mountain view in its 2,000+ year history, only for Mike to set up camp and make it his own. Amazing series, can't wait for what's next!

20:38 The scenery is magnificent.

Worried for him tbh. I hope doesn't get into trouble because of the foreigner.
@@SuperSigma69 He sure will be punished. It's clearly illegal activity and there are plenty of warning.

What a series. The Airforce base, Hitchhiking, Mr Chen, Real China, loads of ciggies. It’s been a ride.
They should thank him for showing it. It impresses me far more than any photo i've seen of the restored parts.
I totally agree with that. It is somehow irresponsible to do such "adventures" to the forbidden places. Not only Mike is taking the risk to breaking the law in a foreign country, he may also be a bad role model who may encourage the later followers who find it fun to risk to go to these forbidden places.
Likewise, it is so unwise regardlese of a local nor a foreigner would try to trespass a classified forbidden place and/or militarily sensitive area such as Area 51
Also, if anything bad happened (injury or dealth).
@@machodude5396 no, nobody will follow Mike doing this. We have all seen it now, no need to risk going there
I love that you just remain yourself on camera and don't try to turn it all into a "show". The locations, situations and your reactions to them conveys really what travelling is really all about, so thanks for the vids.
